There may be another long weekend in the UAE after Islamic New Year
Public holiday fans, take note – the next long weekend is just around the corner and there's another one following not long after.
As you likely know by now, Islamic New Year is officially confirmed in the UAE. Recently, the government announced that Friday June 27 would be a public holiday, giving public and private sector employees a well-deserved three-day weekend.
But if you thought that was the last of the public holidays until December, think again.
What's the next public holiday after the Islamic New Year?
The fourth (and final) long weekend of the year is likely to fall on Friday September 5, for the Prophet Muhammad's Birthday (PBUH).
It's expected to coincide with Rabi' Al-Awwal 12, though this may shift slightly depending on the lunar calendar. If the current prediction holds, it'll be another Friday off, making it a perfect excuse for a mini staycation or one last summer escape before autumn sets in.
As always, dates are subject to change, so keep your eyes on official announcements and your calendar at the ready.
Whether you're planning to chill indoors, try a new restaurant, or hit the beach before it gets too hot again – another long weekend means another chance to make the most of UAE life.
After the September long weekend, the remaining public holiday is the UAE National Day, which will fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday this yeat (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Hit the road: take a spontaneous UAE road trip this long weekend
It's officially the Islamic New Year holiday, which means most of us are enjoying a long weekend, and if you haven't planned anything yet, don't sweat it. Sometimes, the best adventures are the unplanned ones. So why not roll the windows down (or keep the AC on), queue up a killer playlist, and head out for a spontaneous UAE road trip? Here's how to make it a good one — whether you're the driver, the DJ, or the designated napper. For the drivers If you love the feel of the wheel and a stretch of open road, the UAE has some of the most satisfying drives in the region. Head to Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, the tallest mountain in the UAE , for a dramatic drive filled with hairpin bends, incredible cliffside views, and plenty of photo ops. Prefer a coastal cruise? Try the scenic Sharjah to Kalba route, which winds through tunnels, wadis, and mountain passes before opening up to the beach. Add in a breakfast stop at The Hanging Gardens Café on the way, and it's a road trip worth every kilometre. For the in-car DJ Your job is important — mood manager, vibe curator, energy keeper. Download your playlist before you hit the road (because signal drops are a buzzkill) and read the room: morning drives call for something chill (think indie or lo-fi), while sunset cruises pair perfectly with Afrobeats or golden-hour house. Got a longer drive? Bring the AUX cable and rotate playlists between passengers. For a smooth, soundtrack-worthy journey, drive Al Qudra Road just before sunset — golden dunes and wide open views guaranteed. For the nap-lovers Let's be honest — not everyone wants to be in charge. If your ideal role is snack manager and in-car snoozer, choose a longer route like Dubai to Fujairah. It's just under two hours each way — enough time to catch up on sleep without missing the day's adventures. Pack a neck pillow, some comfy shades, and let the hum of the tyres lull you into a blissful car nap. Pro tip: volunteer to handle the return drive (you'll be everyone's favourite). If you need a destination Still want somewhere to aim for? Here are a few quick-fire options: Hatta : For hiking, dam kayaking and mountain views Kalba : For mangroves, beach walks and serene cafés Khorfakkan: For waterfalls, sandy beaches and that iconic amphitheatre Road trip pro tips Fuel up the night before to avoid wasting time in queues. Keep snacks on hand — think fruit, chips, lots of water, and coffee stops. Load your playlist offline to avoid awkward buffering in the middle of your favourite song. Carry cash for random fruit stands, tolls, or spots that don't take cards. Charge your devices — nothing kills a vibe like a dead phone and no music. Bring a hoodie or wrap — cars get cold, and it makes naps cozier. Don't forget your Emirates ID — handy if you're crossing into another emirate or checking into a staycation. > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in

Yas Waterworld just announced when the new slides are coming (it's pretty soon)
Abu Dhabi's favourite waterpark is levelling up. Big time. Yas Waterworld Yas Island is about to unveil its biggest expansion ever and it's opening to the public on Monday July 1. The splash-tastic new zone adds over 20 new rides, slides and water-based thrills, turning the already legendary park into a full-on aquatic mega-playground with 60+ attractions. So, what's new? Well, the expansion dives deeper into the park's 'Legend of the Lost Pearl' story with a brand-new 'Lost City' theme – think hidden treasures, ancient secrets and non-stop action. Adrenaline seekers, make a beeline for Bahamut's Rage, a wild log flume ride that delivers all the drops and none of the chill. Or go head-to-head with your mates on Al Falaj Race – the region's first side-by-side duelling tube raft ride. Little thrill-seekers haven't been left out either. Al Sahel Junior is the region's first mini zero-gravity boomerango (yes, really) and Dawwama Junior offers a pint-sized spin on one of the park's most iconic slides. And it doesn't stop there. You'll also find Al Mafras, a kid-friendly desert slide with smooth turns and splash landings; Red Dunes, a twisting closed aqua tube ride; the swirling chaos of Sadaf Swirl; and the maze-like madness of Mataha. Need a break between thrills? Head to the all-new Bandit's Village, home to Bandit's Playground – an interactive splash zone for families to cool off and run wild. There's also a brand-new dining spot to refuel before round two. Miral, the creators behind Yas Waterworld, say this bold upgrade puts the park at the forefront of global water-based entertainment. And honestly? We're here for it. July 1 onwards. Yas Waterworld Yas Island.
