Home textiles manufacturer Welspun Living Ltd on Thursday said it has inked an agreement with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to launch a large-scale skilling and employment initiative focused on operator-level roles in the textile sector.
Under this initiative, Welspun Living will train and certify 1,000 candidates in its pilot phase, with at least 50 per cent women participation, particularly from underrepresented regions such as the North-Eastern states and Uttarakhand, the company said in a statement.
The total investment for the program amounts to Rs 4.25 crore.

By focusing on women from North East and Uttarakhand, we are not only bridging skill gap but also unlocking pathways to economic independence, self-worth, and generational impact," Welspun Living MD and CEO Dipali Goenka said.
The program will be conducted at Welspun's facilities in Anjar and Vapi in Gujarat in a combination of classroom-based training and on-the-job training in key technical areas such as machine handling, production processes, quality control, safety protocols, and soft skills.
Upon successful completion, all trainees will receive a joint certification from NSDC and Welspun and be assured of captive employment within Welspun's textile operations.
"Skill development is not just about employment, it is about creating opportunities and empowering people with the ability to transform their futures. Through our collaboration with NSDC, we aim to create a more inclusive and future-ready textile workforce, and contribute to boost economic growth," Welspun Living Ltd Chief Human Resources Officer Rajesh Jain added.

Fraud worth Rs 60 crore: EOW to summon Shilpa Shetty and husband Raj Kundra in cheating case

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) which has been probing a cheating case of Rs 60 crore against Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her husband Raj Kundra, will soon summon them and record their statement. A senior IPS officer confirmed that an FIR has been registered on Wednesday night against the Kundra couple. 'As Shilpa Shetty Kundra and her husband Raj Kundra have been named in the FIR, it is a legal mandate that their statement should be recorded in the matter'. The complainant, Deepak Kothari, said that he and his company made repeated attempts to recover the money from businessman Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, and a mediator, but failed, as they cited pandemic-related delays. A resident of Juhu, Kothari is a director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Limited, which is a non-banking financial company, which provides loans. Kothari eventually found that the couple had used the funds for personal benefit, and had cheated him. In his FIR, Kothari alleged that Rajesh Arya, who was working as a loan agent in his firm, said that Kundra and Shetty wanted to take on a business loan, and he knew them personally. A meeting was arranged in a five-star hotel in Juhu, where Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty, Arya, and the complainant, along with his son, met in 2015. Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra claimed that they were directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a now-defunct home shopping and online retail platform. At the time, Shetty reportedly held 87.61 per cent of the shares in the company. Both allegedly sought a loan of Rs 75 crore at 12 percent interest, and the complainant agreed. However, the FIR said, the couple persuaded him to route the funds as an 'investment' to avoid higher taxation, while assuring monthly returns and repayment of principal. As per the complainant, he had given the loan of Rs 60.4 crore for business expansion during the period from 2015 to 2023. Believing these assurances, Kothari agreed and transferred Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015 under a share subscription agreement, followed by Rs 28.53 crore under a supplementary agreement in September 2015. The amount was allegedly credited to Best Deal TV's HDFC Bank accounts, and the couple had paid stamp duty of Rs. 3.19 lakh, the complainant alleged in the FIR. The FIR further states that despite providing a personal guarantee, the complainant received an email from Shilpa Shetty's email address that she had resigned as director in September 2016 from Best Deal TV. Kothari asked the reasons, but she did not give a satisfactory answer and avoided him. Kothari later discovered that insolvency proceedings had been initiated against the company in 2017 for defaulting on another agreement. Kothari approached the Juhu Police Station, and based on his complaint, an FIR was registered Wednesday under sections 403 (dishonest and misappropriation of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) against Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty Kundra. The case was handed over to EOW since the amount involved exceeded Rs 10 crore. EOW is now investigating the case and trying to trace the money trail, and the role of each suspect in the alleged conspiracy, said a EOW official.

At 75, Srikakulam aims to take the big leap to turn challenges into opportunities

1 2 Visakhapatnam: Srikakulam will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Aug 15, marking its official formation on the same date in 1950, when it was carved out of Visakhapatnam district. Historically, the region was part of the Northern Circars, the first territories to come under British control in 1765 through a 'farman' issued by the Mughal emperor and later ratified by the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1768. Guntur, however, came under British control later, in 1788. The Northern Circars roughly comprised the combined districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, and Guntur. In 1802, these Circars were divided into five districts — Ganjam, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Masulipatnam (Machilipatnam), and Guntur. The Chicacole (Srikakulam) area, originally part of Visakhapatnam district, was included in Ganjam when it was formed. However, when Orissa (now Odisha) was created in 1936, Ganjam was transferred to Orissa, and Chicacole division was remerged with Visakhapatnam district. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo This laid the groundwork for its eventual bifurcation in 1950, leading to the formation of Srikakulam as a separate district. Even 75 years after its formation, Srikakulam, one of the least developed districts in Andhra Pradesh, continues to lag behind on key socio-economic indicators. According to the 2011 census, the literacy rate in Srikakulam stood at 61.7%, below the state average of over 67%. Similarly, urbanisation has driven economic growth across the state, with urban population rising from 24.13% in 2001 to 29.47% in 2011. Visakhapatnam leads with 47.45% urban residents, followed by Krishna at 40.81%, while Srikakulam (16.16%) remain the least urbanised district. Before the bifurcation of the erstwhile 13 combined districts into 26, Srikakulam's per capita income stood at Rs 1.45 lakh, ranking 12th among those 13 districts and significantly below the state average of Rs 1.92 lakh. The district also faces a health crisis, with high rates of chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) affecting thousands in the Uddanam region. Another example is that Visakhapatnam district contributed approximately Rs 1.19 lakh crore, or 9.15% of Andhra Pradesh's total gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022-23, securing the top position among all districts. In contrast, Srikakulam ranked 20th among the 26 districts. The district's lack of diversification into non-agricultural sectors, particularly services and manufacturing and under-industrialisation exacerbate its economic stagnation. Srikakulam contributes a mere 2.2% to the state's industrial gross value added, and its share in the services sector remains negligible at just 3%. The three-day celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of Srikakulam started on Aug 13 across the district. Srikakulam collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar said he has invited industrialists to invest in the region, assuring full support, including land allocation through APIIC and access to govt buildings. "With our 193-kilometre coastline and upcoming infrastructure projects such as the Bhogapuram airport and the six-lane corridor, the district offers ample opportunities for industrial development. I urge entrepreneurs to utilise govt schemes and focus on value-added products like cashew, mango, jackfruit, and aquaculture. Both govt and private lands will be made available as required to foster employment and growth," said Pundkar. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). ED raids 17 locations, seizes Rs 110 crore in Rs 3,000 crore money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids across 17 locations throughout the country in connection with a money laundering probe. The raids were conducted in Mumbai, Delhi, Noida, Jaipur, Surat, Madurai, Kanpur and Hyderabad as part of an ongoing probe in the case of Cyprus-based illegal online betting platform Parimatch. During the raid, bank accounts with funds totalling to nearly Rs 110 crore were seized by the officials and frozen. Further, various incriminating documents and digital devices have been found and seized during the raids. advertisementThe ED initiated the investigation on the basis of an FIR registered by the Cyber PS, Mumbai against for duping users through online betting platform Parimatch. As per the investigation, the investors were duped of Rs 3,000 crore in a year. During the raids, it was revealed that Parimatch routed users' funds through mule accounts using different strategies across the country. In one case, funds deposited by users into mule accounts were withdrawn in cash in a specific locality in Tamil Nadu. This cash was handed over to hawala operators, who used it to recharge virtual wallets of a UK-based company. These wallets were then used to buy USDT cryptocurrency in the name of mule crypto accounts, which were actually operated by Parimatch agents. In Western India, Parimatch engaged the services of domestic money transfer (DMT) collected in mule accounts and controlled by these DMT agents were sent to PariMatch agents through payments made by mule Credit Cards. A total of more than 1,200 such credit cards were found and seized from a single premise. The ED investigation also uncovered that payment companies whose applications for Payment Aggregator licences were rejected by the RBI, offered their services to Parimatch in the garb of technology service providers (TSPs) and offered their API (Application Programming Interface) to facilitate user fund collections. These TSPs offered the APIs to Parimatch agents who onboarded mule accounts opened in the name of e-commerce companies and payment solution provider companies for collection of funds from users. The money so collected through UPI transfers was layered and transferred out in the garb of e-commerce refunds, chargebacks, vendor payments, etc. effectively concealing the actual flow and purpose of funds. Parimatch gained visibility through aggressive marketing, including sponsorship of sports tournaments and partnerships with well-known celebrities. They also set up Indian entities to run surrogate advertisements under the names 'Parimatch Sports' and 'Parimatch News.' Payments to these agencies were made via foreign inward remittances. Further investigation is under progress.- EndsMust Watch
