Sculpture trail unveiled to help regenerate town
Great Yarmouth Borough Council invested £380,000 in the project, largely through the government's Town Deal Fund.
Artworks commissioned by local, national and international artists have been installed over the past six weeks.
Councillor Carl Smith, leader of Great Yarmouth Borough Council, said: ''The new trail is simply fantastic. I, like many others, have watched it take shape over the past few months and am delighted it is now complete."
The pieces all celebrated the best of Great Yarmouth, from its role as a circus capital, its maritime and medieval history, through to its embrace of clean energy and transport links.
The launch will start at midday with a ceremonial unveiling of the "Yarn with Ernie" sculpture - created in honour of local artist and potter Ernie Childs - in the town's recently revamped Market Place.
A walking tour of the sculptures will take place, with members of the public invited to join civic dignitaries, including High Steward of Great Yarmouth Henry Cator OBE, who is chair of the Great Yarmouth Town Deal Board.
A number of the artists who created the pieces will also be at the launch to talk to people about their works.
Among the guests will be a representative of the Ukrainian Embassy, attending in honour of Alex Lidagovsky - whose seven-metre-tall Tightrope Walker is the UK's first permanent sculpture by a Ukrainian artist.
Mr Lidagovsky was forced to leave Kyiv after the Russian invasion in 2022. His studio was subsequently bombed before he arrived in the UK.
The trail also featured a unique section of tiled paving outside Christchurch created by Great Yarmouth's Reprezent Project to reflect the cultural impact of the town's Portuguese community.
It is the only piece of traditional Portuguese pavement art - or Calçada Portuguesa - in the UK, and depicts Phillippa of Lancaster, who became Queen of Portugal through marriage to King Joao I.
Great Yarmouth Heritage Guides will be on hand to lead tours and distribute free maps of the route.

Chuck's: famed smashburger joint to open first permanent London site
Smash burger joints are opening as quickly as New York pizzerias in London and next in line is Chuck's, a US import with a sturdy reputation. After a series of pop-ups and residencies, Chuck's will open permanently at Carousel's adjoining cocktail bar No. 23 in early September. The premise is simple: 'a single, crisp-beyond-crisp patty, cheddar, pickles, white onion and signature house sauce, all hugged by a pillow-soft potato roll'. The brand says it does away with 'gimmicks' and 'faff', instead employing a less is more approach. Founder Chuck George said there are 'no compromises, just a flawless formula'. He said: 'If you told me there'd be a Chuck's in London three years ago, I wouldn't have believed you, but here we are. I'm thrilled to be joining Ed and Ollie as co-inspirators [sic] in a permanent Chuck's set within the townhouse walls of No. 23. Burgers and fries are coming this September.' Chuck George was born raised in Virginia, US, by a Filipino-American mother and an American father, and an announcement sent to the Standard said his diverse heritage informs his cooking. He started his career in New York City with the Silkstone group, working alongside the likes of Phil Winser of Public House (The Pelican, The Bull Charlbury and The Hero) at venues like The Fat Radish and The Leadbelly. He launched his first restaurant in Milan in 2022 and quickly garnered a dedicated following thanks to his 'no modifications' approach. Later came branches in Paris, Rome, and Madrid. In London, the same burgers will be served alongside Carousel's existing list of cocktails, as well as wines and lagers. Chuck's fish sauce wings and chicken burger will arrive on the menu later on. Ed Templeton, co-founder of Carousel, said: 'Chuck instantly became part of the Carousel family when he first popped up with us last summer. Brand-new £9million train station opens near Glasgow
A brand-new nine-million-pound train station near Glasgow has officially opened. ScotRail announced the new East Kilbride railway station opened on Wednesday, August 20. The travel hub is part of a major transport improvement in the town. The modern facility replaces the previous station building and offers a significantly improved experience for passengers. It features a new ticket office and barriers, a waiting area, and accessibility improvements. The new station was delivered by Network Rail and contractor AmcoGiffen and is the latest milestone in the overall enhancement project. Several upgrades have already been completed along the route, including the opening of a new £16million station at Hairmyres in May, new footbridges at Busby, Clarkston, and Giffnock stations, the renewal of the railway bridge in Busby, and the installation of a new road bridge on Thornliebank Road. Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop, said: 'The opening of this new station in East Kilbride is the latest milestone in the delivery of the significant investment this Scottish Government has made across the route. 'The new station is fitting for a line that is benefiting from modernisation, bringing with that greener and more sustainable electric trains on completion of this £144million programme. "It is a clear example of our commitment to making rail a more attractive travel option.' Liam Sumpter, managing director of Network Rail Scotland, said: 'We know how important East Kilbride station is for people travelling to work, accessing education, and reaching vital services. "That's why we wanted to create a space that feels modern, welcoming, and built around the needs of the community. "Everyone involved in the project has delivered on that vision, and the result is a station that's truly fit for the future. 'The East Kilbride enhancement project is one of the most significant rail upgrades we've delivered in recent years. "Each milestone, such as this one, brings us closer to a railway that better serves our passengers. "We're reaching the final stages now as we work to complete the electrification of the line and welcome electric trains onto the route towards the end of the year.'
