LG Display unveils in-house AI assistant to up productivity
LG Display said Monday it has become the first company in the display industry to internally develop and deploy an artificial intelligence assistant service tailored to enhance employee productivity.
The AI assistant, designed to optimize individual workflow, provides features such as real-time translation during video conferences and automated meeting transcription, enabling employees to perform tasks more efficiently.
In the first half of the year, the display maker plans to expand the AI assistant's capabilities to include email summarization and natural language-based data analysis.
In the second half, the company aims to roll out advanced functions that will assist in drafting business presentation materials such as PowerPoint documents, further enhancing the tool's utility.
According to LG Display, early implementation of the service has resulted in a roughly 10 percent increase in daily productivity.
The company estimates that employees can manage their time more efficiently -- saving about 50 minutes within a standard 8-hour workday -- allowing them to focus on higher-value tasks.
LG Display said it aims to increase overall work productivity by more than 30 percent within the next three years through continued upgrades and wider adoption of the AI assistant.
The AI assistant has been integrated as a plug-in application into the company's existing internal intranet platform, Let's, allowing for seamless use without the need for infrastructure changes.
LG Display has internalized a large language model, which serves as the brain of the AI, to fundamentally block the leakage of external information through its AI assistant service and to enhance security stability.
The LLM is based on Exaone 3.5, developed in-house by LG AI Research, LG Group's AI think tank, and the development of the AI application was carried out in collaboration with the group's IT solutions unit LG CNS.
'With the introduction of a personal AI assistant, we've been able to significantly boost individual productivity by minimizing routine tasks,' said Lee Byung-seung, head of DX group at LG Display.
'We will continue to strengthen our AI transformation capabilities to deliver differentiated value to customers,' he added.

Kospi soars to over 3-yr high on foreign buying spree, eased tariff uncertainties
South Korea's stock market surpassed the 2,900-point mark for the first time in over three years Wednesday, extending its winning streak to a sixth day, thanks to continued foreign inflow and progress in trade talks between the world's two biggest economies. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index added 35.19 points, or 1.23 percent, to close at 2,907.04, marking the highest level since January 14, 2022, when the index closed at 2,921.92. Trade volume was heavy at 383.5 million shares worth 12.3 trillion won ($9 billion), with winners outnumbering losers 600 to 281. Foreign investors continued their purchases of local shares for a sixth consecutive session. "The Kospi breached the 2,900-point mark on upbeat momentum created by favorable US-China trade negotiations and foreign investors' continued purchase of big-cap shares," Lee Jae-won, an analyst at Shinhan Securities, said. High-level officials from Washington and Beijing held trade talks in London for two days through Tuesday, where they agreed on a framework to carry out measures to resolve their trade disputes on rare earths and technology. Kim Jae-seung, an analyst at Hyundai Motor Securities, said expectations on the Lee Jae-myung government's policy to boost the local stock market also improved market sentiment. Lee, who took office last week, has pledged to usher in the 5,000-point era and get rid of the so-called Korea discount, which refers to investors' tendency undervalue South Korean assets due to geopolitical risks or other issues. OpenAI CSO Kwon to visit S. Korea for AI partnership: sources
Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer of OpenAI, will visit South Korea on Thursday for the second time in just over two weeks to explore partnerships in the artificial intelligence sector, industry sources said Wednesday. His upcoming visit comes just a week after the inauguration of President Lee Jae-myung, who has pledged to make South Korea one of the world's top three AI powerhouses through a 100 trillion-won ($73 billion) national investment initiative. During his previous visit on May 26, Kwon said OpenAI has established a Korean subsidiary and plans to open its third Asian office -- following Tokyo and Singapore -- in Seoul in the coming months. The move is part of OpenAI's broader global expansion. The developer of ChatGPT has launched 11 new offices in major cities in recent years, including Paris, Brussels, Singapore, London, Dublin and Tokyo. "OpenAI considers South Korea a key partner due to its high level of engagement with our services and sees strong potential for collaboration with Korean companies," an OpenAI official said. South Korea ranks among the top 10 countries globally in terms of ChatGPT users and developers using OpenAI platforms. In particular, it has the second-largest number of paid ChatGPT subscribers, following the United States. Even before formally entering the Korean market, OpenAI has collaborated with several major Korean companies, including internet giant Kakao Corp., game developer Krafton Inc. and mobile carrier SK Telecom Co., on AI technologies and data center development.
