TikTok star Khaby Lame plays soccer in Brazil after US detention
SAO PAULO (AP) — Khaby Lame, the world's most-followed TikTok personality who left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents, went to Brazil where he's been spending some time with friends, local authorities said Thursday. Lame is staying with AC Milan player Emerson Royal, and has been enjoying time with local fans, Paulo Eduardo Dias Junior, a city councilman from Americana, about 78 miles (125 kilometers) northwest of Sao Paulo, told The Associated Press. On Wednesday night, they played a friendly soccer match with locals. Lame left the United States after being detained on June 6 by immigration agents at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, according to a statement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Junior organized Wednesday's match on behalf of the nonprofit he leads, Instituto Jr Dias. He said that Lame and Royal's participation helped collect 150 food baskets for vulnerable families. 'Emerson Royal is a role model for the children in our community, and so is Khaby, who is globally known through social media. He's a sensation among kids today,' Junior said. 'He had a lot of fun with the kids and played a lot.' The councilman said that the team that Lame and Royal were on won 3-1. Everything went smoothly, he added, except for the post-match celebration. As is tradition in Brazil, players gathered for a barbecue. But Lame preferred a parmegiana, so they took him to a local restaurant, Junior said. This is not Lame's first time in Brazil. Last year, he traveled to the country to attend Royal's wedding. Met Gala and then detention Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' an ICE spokesperson told the AP, which sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He hasn't publicly commented on his detention. His detention and voluntary departure from the United States comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure — which was granted to Lame — allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old Lame rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks.' He has more than 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and also has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multiyear partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

Dua Lipa and Callum Turner Are Officially Engaged! All of the Details on Her $100,000 Trend-Forward Diamond Ring
After months of speculation, Dua Lipa confirmed that she and Callum Turner are engaged. The pop star announced the news in British Vogue. The ring, a solitaire diamond set on a chunky band, is estimated to be worth between $65,000 and $125, months of speculation, Dua Lipa finally confirmed her engaged to Callum Turner. The pop star revealed the news in an interview with British Vogue. "Yeah, we're engaged," she told the outlet. "It's very exciting." Rumors of a proposal had started circulating in late 2024, after the pop singer posted a picture on her Instagram of her wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring. However, neither her nor her partner commented on the speculation—until now. In her conversation with the outlet, she disclosed that Turner had the ring made for her with the input of her best friends and her sister. "I'm obsessed with it," she said. "It's so me. It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well." While the singer didn't reveal the exact details of the sparkler, Susie Saltzman, an engagement ring designer based in New York City, previously told BRIDES that it looks as though it features a solitaire "round brilliant or old European cut" diamond set on a yellow gold chunky, wide band. "The diamond appears to be semi-bezel set or tension set—possibly even fully bezel set," she added. And in terms of the price range? "It's so hard to say without knowing the diamond shape, carat weight, and quality, but I would venture to guess that if it's a high quality natural diamond, over two and a half or three carats, it most likely cost $65,000 to $85,000 on the low end and $125,000 on the high end." Even though the pop star may have confirmed their engagement, she said that the two have yet to make much progress on wedding planning. "I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period," she said in the interview. "I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'" While the singer admitted that in the past, she was unsure as to why getting engaged was so important to people, now, with Turner, she gets it. "This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever—it's a really special feeling." Related: The Biggest Celebrity Weddings From the Past 90 Years In the interview, she also provided more details on how she and the actor became romantically involved. While the two had moved within the same social circles for years, their first official meeting was at The River Cafe in London, where they were introduced by the restaurant's cofounder. A year after that, they crossed paths again in Los Angeles at another restaurant—and began chatting about the book the "Levitating" singer was reading, Trust by Hernan Diaz. "And we both just happened to be reading the same book," she told the outlet. When asked whether all of these coincidences made the star feel as though they were destined to be together, she was confident in her response. "One thousand percent," she told the interviewer. Jury dispute triggers mistrial on Harvey Weinstein rape charge
The judge in the Harvey Weinstein sex crimes retrial declared a mistrial on the outstanding rape charge against the movie producer Thursday, after the jury foreperson refused to return to deliberate the count amid a jury room feud. "Deliberations became heated to such a degree I am obligated to declare a mistrial on the one count on which you didn't reach a verdict," judge Curtis Farber told the jury panel. On Wednesday, the jury convicted Weinstein for sexual assault on Miriam Haley, and acquitted the fallen movie mogul for allegedly sexually assaulting Kaja Sokola. They were unable to reach a verdict on the charge that Weinstein raped Jessica Mann, and a retrial on that count will follow at a future date. Weinstein is already in jail for a 16-year term after he was convicted in a separate California case of raping a European actress more than a decade ago. Proceedings in New York have been dogged by personal issues between jurors, two of whom have privately complained to the judge about the conduct of fellow panelists. The foreman had told the judge Curtis Farber he could not continue after facing threats. "One other juror made comments to the effect 'I'll meet you outside one day'," the judge said Wednesday quoting the foreman, adding there was yelling between jurors. After Weinstein's lawyer Arthur Aidala demanded a mistrial over the jury rupture, Weinstein himself addressed the court, deploying a commanding voice reminiscent of the heyday of his Hollywood power. - 'Threats, violence, intimidation' - "We've heard threats, violence, intimidation -- this is not right for me... the person who is on trial here," he said. The Oscar-winner's conviction on the Haley charge is a vindication for Haley whose complaint in part led to the initial guilty verdict in 2020. That landmark case helped spur the "MeToo" movement that saw an outpouring of allegations from prominent women who were abused by men. Weinstein underwent a spectacular fall from his position at the top of the world of Hollywood and show business in 2017 when allegations against him exploded into public. The movement upended the film industry, exposing systemic exploitation of young women seeking to work in entertainment, and provoking a reckoning on how to end the toxic culture. More than 80 women accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct in the wake of the global backlash against men abusing positions of power. Weinstein's original 2020 conviction, and the resulting 23-year prison term, was thrown out last year after an appeals court found irregularities in the way witnesses were presented. gw/bgs
