Warriors Are After Damian Lillard To Form Splash Bros 2.0 With Stephen Curry
Things have gotten interesting for the Golden State Warriors this summer after former Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard suddenly hit the free-agent market. The Warriors, who are still fresh off the Jimmy Butler trade in February, have become the latest franchise to show interest in the star as teams across the league vie for his services.

'Of the many teams that reached out to Damian Lillard, the Warriors were one of those teams," said Marc Spears on NBA Today. "This is a guy who grew up at games at Oracle Arena, sneaking in the media room, getting sodas. Grew up a Warriors fan… I know it's very interesting to Bay Area people.'
Lillard, 34, began his career with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent 11 years leading them as a regular playoff team. Lillard grew up in Oakland, California, the site of the famous 'Oracle Arena' and the place where the Stephen Curry dynasty began. Back in Lillard's day, the Warriors were a relatively irrelevant franchise, but by the time he made it into the league in 2012, the seeds were already in place for their rise to power.
For years, Steph and the Warriors blocked Lillard's path to the Finals, and the Trail Blazers failed to get him the pieces he needed to finally take them down. During his lone trip to the NBA Finals in 2019, it was Steph and the Warriors who sent him home in defeat and ended his last best chance to make a run.
Now, Lillard and Curry could join forces in a move that would shock the basketball world. In his prime, Lillard was one of the best three-point shooters in the league, second only to Steph himself. With career averages of 25.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game on 43.9% shooting, Lillard is a generational talent who demands respect.

Even after tearing his Achilles tendon in April, Lillard remains a hot target across the league, and it's believed he may be able to return at some point next season to help a team make a playoff run. Considering he'd come at the veteran's minimum, even the Warriors can afford to bring him in, and they really have nothing to lose by offering him a spot.
Alongside Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green, Lillard could thrive with the Warriors and finish out his career on his terms. Not only would he get open looks and floor spacing from Steph, he'd enjoy extra coverage on defense from his team in the form of Butler, Draymond, and whoever else the Warriors can add this offseason.
With Lillard and Curry's shooting, the Warriors would be unmatched offensively, comparable only to the days of Curry and Thompson during the peak of the Warriors' run. Assuming they fill out the roster with a proper big man, Lillard's arrival could change everything for the Warriors and put them back in a position they haven't been in years.
In the end, only time will tell how Lillard's future plays out, but the decision is entirely his. At this point, he has total control over his next contract, and if he wants to sign with the Warriors, that option will be available. With close ties to the city (a lot of family there) and the potential to win a championship, there are plenty of reasons why Lillard might be favorable to joining the Warriors.

NHL Rumors: Bruins Targeted New Maple Leafs Forward
The Boston Bruins made several new additions to their roster so far this summer. While this is the case, they were also reportedly interested in a recently acquired Toronto Maple Leafs forward. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins were one of the teams interested in Matias Maccelli before he was traded by the Utah Mammoth to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Advertisement "I heard there were three or four teams that were in on Maccelli," Friedman said. "I think Boston was one, and I think Edmonton was one." With Maccelli being a 24-year-old winger who has had past success in the NHL, it is not particularly surprising that the Bruins had him on their radar. It is no secret that their forward group needs more offense, and landing a winger like Maccelli could have helped things a bit on that front. While Maccelli posted just 18 points in 55 games last season with Utah, he is a prime bounce-back candidate heading into 2025-26 with the Maple Leafs. Just back in 2023-24 with the Arizona Coyotes, he recorded 17 goals and 57 points in 82 games. He also recorded 11 goals and 49 points in 64 contests with Arizona back in 2022-23, so there is no question that he can be an impactful forward when playing at his best. Nevertheless, Maccelli would have had the potential to be a strong addition to Boston's middle six. However, the Bruins will instead be facing him more often now that he has been traded to Toronto. Why are the Boston Celtics interested in signing former Bucks guard Damian Lillard?
Why are the Boston Celtics interested in signing former Milwaukee Bucks floor general Damian Lillard? The Celtics are looking at a soft tank season while they wait for star forward Jayson Tatum to return to the court from an injured Achilles tendon, and will not likely be contending for titles by the end of the NBA's 2025-26 regular season. In fact, the Celtics are not even a lock to make the postseason as they scale back spending in light of Tatum's injury and the crushing weight of the second apron restrictions created by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) to punish teams with expensive rosters. So why would Boston add ANOTHER player currently recovering from an Achilles tear who will be about 37 years old and an undersized guard with defensive weaknesses even before the injury? Advertisement The folks behind the "98.5 The Sports Hub" YouTube channel put together a clip from their "Felger and Mazz" show to talk it all over. Check it out below to hear their thoughts on the interest in Dame. This article originally appeared on Celtics Wire: Why are the Celtics interested in signing Damian Lillard?

Guardians get lackluster MLB trade deadline prediction
The Cleveland Guardians are in the middle of a huge ten-game losing streak. Their offense has been terrible, and the chances of making a postseason push don't look too great. In the lead-up to the MLB trade deadline, such a poor streak could lead the Guardians to make major changes to shake up the roster. Advertisement But, according to Gabb Goudy on the Carlos Baerga Show, the Guardians aren't going to make any large moves at this year's trade deadline."I don't see them making any large moves or trades or anything crazy." While the offense has been bad, and the pitching hasn't been as good as it's been in the past, the Guardians aren't planning to make drastic changes by the end of July. Instead, the Guardians are likely to sit on their top trade chips, like Emmanuel Clase and Steven Kwan, while also not trading away any prospects for major additions to the roster. Bob Nightengale of USA Today predicted that the Guardians would trade away Carlos Santana, but outside of him, and maybe Lane Thomas, the Guardians aren't expected to be major players in this year's trade deadline market. Advertisement It's been a severely underwhelming season so far, and the trade deadline is expected to match it. But, while a lackluster trade deadline, it might not be the wrong idea. This Guardians team isn't as bad as they've shown this season. MORE: Guardians predicted to land haul of prospects for Emmanuel Clase at trade deadline Keeping the top trade chips, coming back in 2026 with a revamped roster, could be the long-term solution to success in the AL Central. With the Detroit Tigers off to an incredible start this season, there's more reason to take a backseat in 2025. Cleveland is a ways away from competing with the top teams in the AL, and isn't likely to see a turnaround at some point this season from their offensive players, who've struggled. Advertisement Goudy's prediction that the Guardians will not make any major moves is the right call in such a situation. Punt this season, and regroup for 2026 when the roster is overhauled and the top prospects are called up. It's not the most exciting plan, but it might be the right decision in the long term. The success shown in 2024 makes this 2025 season sting more, but resetting for a year could lead the team to greater heights instead of trying to push the envelope this season. MORE MLB NEWS
