Time to move on from WTC win: Kagiso Rabada shifts focus for Australia tour

India Today2 days ago
South Africa's pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada believes it is time for the Proteas to move on from the emotional high of their World Test Championship (WTC) final victory over Australia, as the two sides gear up for a six-match white-ball series beginning Sunday in Darwin.Speaking to the media on Thursday, Rabada acknowledged the significance of the triumph but stressed the importance of refocusing ahead of the T20Is and ODIs that lie ahead. 'I think it was special, and I've done so many interviews on that since,' Rabada said. 'I think it's time to move on. I don't think we'll ever forget that as a team, and South Africa won't either. But time to move on now.'advertisementThe WTC final in June marked a monumental moment for South African cricket, ending a 26-year wait for a major ICC title. At Lord's, Rabada led from the front with match figures of 9 for 110, while Aiden Markram anchored the chase with a classy 136 in the fourth innings.
'It was kind of like a relief,' Rabada admitted. 'But the show moves on, and moving toward the T20 World Cup, I guess the approach will be a bit different. Now, you know, there's no fear of anything.'The upcoming white-ball tour of Australia — consisting of three T20 internationals and three ODIs — will mark Rabada's return to competitive action since the WTC final. The 30-year-old has used the time away to recover physically and mentally after a gruelling stretch of cricket.'Thankfully, I've had quite a long break, so that's been awesome,' he said. 'Maintenance work consistently has to be done because the volume of cricket is quite a bit.'AUSTRALIA RIVALRY REIGNITEDThe rivalry between Australia and South Africa has produced some of the most intense cricket in recent years, something Rabada is eager to embrace once again.'It's always some hard cricket being played, some good cricket,' he said. 'Whenever we play Australia, I always feel like they get the best out of us, because they're sort of in our faces. And I guess we like that.'With a T20 World Cup on the horizon in 2026 and a new generation of South African cricketers emerging, Rabada is looking ahead with optimism. 'It's just about trying to see where we're at as a team, moving into almost like another generation,' he added.- EndsMust Watch

Star England cricketer mocks Glenn MCGrath's BOLD 5-0 Ashes prediction for 2025-26, due to...

Glenn McGrath Former England pacer Stuart Broad mocked Glenn McGrath's 5-0 Ashes prediction favoring Australia for the 2025-26 series. Broad advised McGrath to wait for the tournament to begin, as it is almost four months away. With the five-match series ending in a 2-2 draw, Ben Stokes' England was unable to defeat a transitional Indian team, which may have led McGrath to conclude that Australia has a definite advantage in the Ashes. The 2010–11 Ashes was the last time England defeated Australia at home, and they have had trouble on subsequent tours there. It was their last Test victory in the country. McGrath's Ashes prediction 'It's very rare for me to make a prediction, isn't it? And I can't make a different one, 5-0. I'm very confident with our team. When you've got Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon firing in their home conditions, it's going to be pretty tough,' McGrath said while speaking on BBC. 'Plus, that track record England have had, it'd be interesting to see if they can win a Test. I love seeing sportspeople go out there and play without fear,' he added Stuart Broad mocks McGrath's prediction In response to the former Australian pacer's prediction, Broad joked that he could have at least waited to make it until England had arrived in Australia 'It's August!! At least let us land, Glenn,' Broad tweeted on Friday afternoon. Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney are the five venues where the 2025 Men's Ashes will take place. Beginning on January 4, 2026, the fifth Test at the SCG will mark the conclusion of the series. As part of the Seven Network's coverage of the Ashes, Broad will join the commentary panel and share his thoughts. Australia has only lost two of their last 15 home Test matches and won 4-0 in 2021–2022.

Australia: The worlds most power-packed T20I batting line up at present?

Darwin [Australia], August 9 (ANI): As Australia takes on South Africa in the first T20I of the three-match series at Darwin from Sunday onwards, they would be aiming to keep their consistent run with the bat going, as they aim to build a fiery unit for the T20 World Cup next year, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Ever since last year, the Australian T20I side has been a power-packed unit, with hitter after hitter in their line-up. Bowlers cannot even breathe a sigh of relief after a wicket as the other one arrives to tonk right from ball one, the next minute. Since last year, they have been leading the strike rate charts, with bashers like Glenn Maxwell, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Tim David and Josh Inglis etc playing a crucial role to ensure that the team is ready for their second T20 WC title, having won it once back in 2021. Ever since last year, Australia has scored their runs at a strike rate of 157.03 in 26 matches, topping the charts. Next is a young and equally unstoppable Team India, with a strike rate of 150.45. Both teams are the only ones with collective strike rates of over 150 in this time frame. Australia has fired 4,141 runs at an average of 29.36, with three centuries and 21 fifties. They have also hit a total of 371 fours and 237 sixes. However, India gives them a tough competition, outscoring them, with 3,433 runs, at a slightly lesser average of 29.18. A collective eight centuries and 25 fifties have been produced by Indian batters, who have outclassed their Aussie counterparts in milestone-hunting. They have also out-hit the Aussies, with 455 fours and 283 sixes. Australia's top five run-getters in this time period are: Travis Head (539 runs in 15 matches and innings at an average of 38.50, with a strike rate of over 178, with four fifties and best score of 80), Josh Inglis (491 runs in 19 matches and 18 innings at an average of 35.07, with a strike rate of 170.48 with a century, two fifties and best score of 102), Glenn Maxwell (479 runs in 21 matches and 19 innings at an average of 28.17, with a strike rate of 171.68, a century and fifty and best score of 120*), skipper Mitch Marsh (438 runs in 21 matches and 20 innings at an average of 24.33, with a strike rate of 140.83 and best score of 72*, his only fifty) and Tim David (436 runs in 24 matches and 20 innings at an average of 39.63, strike rate of 192.07, with a century and best score of 102*). Add to this a veteran Marcus Stoinis (330 runs in 17 matches and 14 innings at an average of 36.66, with a strike rate of 156.39, with three fifties and best score of 67*) and emerging talents like Cameron Green (329 runs in 10 matches and nine innings at an average of 65.80, strike rate of over 151 with four fifties and best score of 62*) and Mitchell Owen (125 runs in five matches and four innings at an average of 41.66, strike rate of over 192 with a half-century). This makes for an extremely power-packed group of eight Aussies continue their ruthless run against Proteas as well?Squads: Australia Squad: Mitchell Marsh(c), Travis Head, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis(w), Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Owen, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, Matthew Short, Matthew KuhnemannSouth Africa Squad: Aiden Markram(c), Ryan Rickelton(w), Rassie van der Dussen, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, George Linde, Prenelan Subrayen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Nandre Burger, Lungi Ngidi, Senuran Muthusamy, Nqabayomzi Peter, Kwena Maphaka, Lhuan-dre Pretorius. From Bettering Sachin's Record To Making History In IPL, Forced To Make Sacrifices All His Life: The Inspiring Story Of...

1/10 Sarfaraz Khan, as a boy, broke Tendulkar's record at 12 faced an age controversy a year later that shook his confidence. Sarfaraz Khan turned from being a U-19 World Cup hero to being IPL's youngest debutant at that time Sarfaraz Khan was retained over big names like Gayle and Rahul but endured a nightmare IPL 2018 season that ended in release. Sarfaraz Khan spent years away from school, learning cricket on a synthetic pitch beside his house as Mumbai's monsoon washed away childhood play. Sarfaraz Khan achieved Ranji glory with a triple century in 2020 yet no national call-up as selectors continued to overlook him. Sarfaraz Khan had a dream debut in 2024 with twin fifties against England, marred by a run-out mix-up with Jadeja. Sarfaraz Khan registered the highest strike rate for a debutant with two fifties but still found himself in and out of the Test team. Sarfaraz Khan was omitted from IPL 2025 auctions amid criticism over weight, responding with a staggering 17-kg loss. Sarfaraz Khan went from being compared to cricket's greats as a teen to fighting for a permanent spot in the Indian XI. Sarfaraz Khan's career so far has been defined by comebacks and the stubborn refusal to let heartbreaks write the ending.
