Going to Disney World on Spring Break? See which rides are currently closed, being refurbished
Spring break season is almost here! Depending on where you live, it might arrive early in March while others will have to wait until the middle of April.
Florida's theme parks see roughly 50 million visitors throughout the year, with spring break among the most popular times.
If you're planning to visit Walt Disney World in the next few months, here's a look at which attractions are being refurbished or closed for good during the Spring Break months, according to its website.
The theme park will see several changes over the next few years, beginning with the construction of two new sections — one based on Pixar's "Cars" franchise and another dedicated to Disney Villains.
Until then, here's what is currently closed:
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: Closed until 2026 for refurbishment
Astro Orbiter: Closed Jan. 13 through summer 2025 for refurbishment
Hall of Presidents: Closed Jan. 20 for refurbishment and to replace the president in office
Test Track: Closed until late summer 2025, reimagined by General Motors
Spaceship Earth Lounge: Opening spring 2025
Gran Fiesta Tour: Reopening on March 15 after refurbishment
As of February 2025, only Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy is permanently closed. Once we approach the summer months, the theme park will see more changes and closures, such as:
Melrose's Ristorante Italiano: Permanently closing May 11,
Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo: Permanently closing June 8
The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure: Opening summer 2025
Disney Villains Show: Opening summer 2025
It's Tough to Be a Bug: Closing March 17
Kali River Rapids: Closed for refurbishment
TriceraTop Spin: Closed permanently
Dino-Rama Area: Closed permanently
Those upset about the extinction of DinoLand U.S.A. will still have a chance to ride the "Dinosaur" ride, set to close sometime next year to make way for the new "Tropical Americas" land.

A representative for Victor confirmed the actress' death to USA TODAY on June 1. She had been battling lymphoma, a type of cancer, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. Victor provided the voice of Abuelita in the acclaimed 2017 animated movie "Coco." The Pixar film, which grossed more than $800 million worldwide, won two Oscars, for best animated film and best original song for "Remember Me." A sequel to "Coco" was announced in March, and Victor had indicated she planned to reprise her role. "It was my great pleasure and experience working with the incredibly talented (directors) Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina!" she wrote on Instagram in March. "We get to do it again! This is what we've all been waiting for! I'm so excited!" 'Coco 2' is in the works at Pixar: What we know She added, "Coco shared a Mexican tradition that is now celebrated around the world in unity. Disney Creating New 'National Park' Based on ‘Cars'
The latest car news, reviews, and features. Disney's Magic Kingdom in Florida is getting a new Cars -themed park section with a great-outdoors aesthetic. 'Piston Peak National Park' will let people play around in a land full of talking vehicles and do some Disney'ifed off-roading in the Cars universe. As pitched in the Disney Parks Blog : 'Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers. While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.' Piston Peak NP is actually the setting of the Cars spinoff movie Planes: Fire & Rescue . So this trailer should give you a sense of what the set design will probably look like (though I'm sure the Magic Kingdom version will not feature a consuming wildfire). There's no official open date yet, but Disney's reportedly planning to start construction on Piston Peak on July 7, at which point Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America will close. The fan blog Pixar Post guestimates a 2027 opening. Disney Once it's done, Disney's promising that people will be able to explore a visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, 'majestic landscapes,' and an off-road ride. 'Rugged mountains with dramatic peaks will be nestled along a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall and soaring geysers from the famed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will stretch into the trails of our off-road rally,' writes Disney. What the rally ride will actually be like remains TBA, but in March, Disney's official Instagram accounts shared the clip below showcasing some of the R&D being done to make it fun. Looks like park planners went for some UTV rides to get context on what kind of pace and level of jostling would be fun for park-goers. The amusement park company is reportedly going to have a gentler attraction for younger kids, too. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Disney Parks (@disneyparks) Concept vehicle art for the project is very cute. Maybe these rally cars will get their own show or movie at some point, too. Disney I'm not a big amusement park guy, but I did spend a weekend at Magic Kingdom last year, and I had a good time despite making myself barf. (Not from motion rides; I ate way too much junk.) There's an existing Cars experience, which is pretty tame but fun—you get to meet an enormous animatronic Lightning McQueen and watch an animated race on a wrap-around screen. Ka-chow! Got a tip? Walt Disney World Teases Details About New 'Cars'-Themed Land amid 'Largest Expansion' in History of Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World has released details about the upcoming Cars-themed land, set to launch as part of the Piston Peak National Park transformation The Cars attraction was first announced at the Disney Experiences showcase at D23 on Aug. 10 "Cars from around the country are fueling up to be the wildest racer in the 'wheelderness,'" a Disney Parks Blog post read Walt Disney World is gearing up for the "largest expansion" in the history of Magic Kingdom! On Tuesday, June 3, the Orlando, Florida park released new details regarding the Piston Peak National Park transformation and the upcoming Pixar Cars-themed land, per a Disney Parks Blog post. "Cars from around the country are fueling up to be the wildest racer in the 'wheelderness,'" the post began. "Of course, we know that fans are curious to see how the exciting new backdrop for the big rally race will fit into the waters, landscapes, and storytelling at Magic Kingdom." It was announced that two new Cars-themed attractions would soon be built in Frontierland at the Disney Experiences showcase at D23 on Aug. 10. In the latest post, the park announced that Piston Peak National Park "will continue the sweeping storytelling tradition that has crossed Liberty Square and Frontierland" since it opened in the '70s. The post read, "Since the early days of Magic Kingdom, adventurous guests have traveled across space and time as they pass from Liberty Square to Frontierland." "At the heart of all these stories are heroic characters with a belief in themselves that helped forge a path to their dreams," the statement continued. "To continue this journey in great American storytelling, Piston Peak National Park will be part of the largest expansion in the history of Magic Kingdom," the park said. The post continued, "Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers. While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks." The park revealed that Piston Peak visitors would "be able to see and explore the visitor lodge, Ranger HQ, trails and more all set within the Disney and Pixar Cars universe." "To make sure these buildings fit naturally within the surrounding majestic landscapes, Imagineers are using a style of architecture called 'Parkitecture,' which was developed by the National Park Service to create structures that harmonize with the natural environment," the post added. "From the outside, trees will provide a natural barrier between the off-road rally and other parts of Frontierland and Liberty Square. Rugged mountains with dramatic peaks will be nestled along a calming waterway across from Grizzly Hall, and soaring geysers from the famed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will stretch into the trails of our off-road rally," the description read. The post also confirmed that amid the ongoing work on the park this summer, the attractions Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat would be closing from July 7. "Imagineers are also hard at work beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, bringing to life the first-ever land inspired by the Disney Villains with two major attractions, dining, and shopping all on an incredibly twisted grand scale," the park added. Details of the off-road Cars vehicles heading to the park were first revealed at The Future of World-Building at Disney panel at SXSW in March, per a previous Disney Parks Blog post. Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter and Imagineer Michael Hundgen shared the news, with the latter saying, 'Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests." 'For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it," he added, per the post. The Imagineers worked with a motocross company after taking a trip to Arizona to experience driving in a real off-road vehicle on rocky terrain, the park said. 'We're using a customized production vehicle,' Hundgen explained. 'It has sensors all over it, and we're taking it for test drives on our dirt track to gather data on how the vehicle responds to different terrain. This is where we turn that feeling we want into real-world engineering." A Disney spokesperson didn't immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE for additional information.
