PM Anwar says reforms in governance take time, needs support beyond Pakatan
KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said that reforming Malaysia's governance system will take time and requires cooperation from coalitions beyond Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Anwar, who is also PH chairman and PKR president, said he is doing his best to push for reforms within the limits of his position.
'Can you undertake this massive reform in a year, or two or three years? I don't know but what I know is that, there's no turning back. I'm certain every month and every year, that there must be some progression.
'For those who are impatient and want it fast, of course they are blinded by the facts and reality,' he said in his speech at the launching of i-Rise, a centre of excellence for research and Innovation in Islamic economics at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia here.
He said the PH coalition is fortunate to have Umno and Barisan Nasional as partners in government.
Anwar described them as 'one of the core pillars committed to this reform and support.'
'But you can't take things for granted, as the process of negotiation, discussion, and engagement remains crucial,' he added.

328 million e-invoices processed by LHDN so far
LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said some smaller taxpayers have joined the e-invoicing system voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates. GEORGE TOWN : The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has validated more than 328 million e-invoices since the country began its move towards a digital tax system last year. LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said the numbers came from about 35,000 taxpayers who submitted their records through the new system. 'These are from users in Phases 1 and 2. Some smaller taxpayers have also joined voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates,' she said, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event by CTOS in Bayan Lepas today. LHDN is phasing in e-invoicing by company size, with Phase 1, which started on Aug 1 last year, covering large businesses with annual sales of over RM100 million. Phase 2, which started on Jan 1, covers companies with sales of between RM25 million and RM100 million. Phase 3 (RM5 million-RM25 million turnover) starts on July 1 and Phase 4 (RM1 million-RM5 million) on Jan 1, 2026. The smallest firms (below RM1 million) will come on board by July 1, 2026. The e-invoicing system, part of the government's plan to improve tax compliance and reduce fraud, is meant to help LHDN keep a better record of business deals and make it easier for taxpayers to fill in their tax forms. E-invoices, which let businesses report sales immediately or on a monthly basis, are sent in real time or in monthly groups. The system can also handle self-billed e-invoices, such as for transactions with foreign suppliers or people who do not run businesses.

Pahang bans vape use after fatwa, Sultan's consent
KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 — The Pahang government has officially banned the use of electronic cigarettes or vape within the state. State Islamic Affairs, Rural Development and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said the ban follows a fatwa issued by the Pahang Mufti Department, according to a report published by Buletin TV3 today. The fatwa was formally communicated to the Pahang State Legal Adviser's Office on March 3 via a memorandum submitted by the Menteri Besar's Office addressing the growing use of vape among the public. 'The state government took note of the fatwa, and it was brought to the Pahang State Executive Council (Exco) meeting on May 14, where it received the royal assent of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah. 'His Majesty had, on several occasions, expressed concern over this matter,' he said. Syed Ibrahim also urged all local authorities to enforce the ban gradually and tactfully, with the aim of educating the public to avoid vaping. On November 18 last year, Al-Sultan Abdullah called for a complete ban on vape, citing growing concern over rising drug abuse in the state, especially among youth, as reported by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).

Sabah Umno clarifies cautious stance on coalitions, vows not to repeat past mistakes
KOTA KINABALU, June 12 — Sabah Umno has clarified that Barisan Nasional's (BN) current political stance should not be interpreted as a complete rejection of cooperation with other parties, but rather a cautious approach shaped by past experiences. In a statement released by Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, the party reiterated that BN is not closing its doors to political collaboration. However, any decision to form a coalition must be rooted in the people's interests, the need for state stability and lessons drawn from past political developments, especially those surrounding the 16th state election (PRN16). The statement comes in response to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun's statement recently, saying the coalition shares the same sentiment regarding Sabah BN's reluctance to team up in PRN17. However, Masidi said they have not made a firm decision on the matter until the Supreme Council meeting, which is expected to take place either this month or early July. 'During the last state election, certain political collaborations led to unfavourable consequences for BN, particularly in terms of integrity, trust and a shared political direction,' Suhaimi said. 'This is not merely about ideological differences, but also about political sincerity and consistency in leadership,' he added. He emphasised that Sabah Umno and BN's current approach is to assess any potential alliance objectively, rationally and strategically, without haste or in response to short-term political demands. 'We will not repeat past mistakes, nor will we allow Sabah Umno to once again be placed in a political position that sidelines the voices of our grassroots members,' Suhaimi added. He also stressed that determining Sabah's future should not be reduced to a numbers game of how many parties can come together at the negotiating table. Instead, it must be about forming a coalition that can ensure long-term stability, integrity and development for the people.
