Tambe, who took 28 wickets in 33 matches in the IPL in which he debuted well into his 40s, played for the North Mumbai Panthers team when they won the championship when it was last held, in 2019, beating Sobo Supersonics in the final. On Saturday, the governing council of MCA held an 'orientation' with all the eight team owners and their support staff at the MCA Lounge.
Meanwhile, once a sensation in the IPL, Paul Valthaty has been named as the Indian Cricketers Association representative in the governing council of the upcoming league. The 40-year-old former Mumbai and Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) cricketer was in August last year named head coach of a Minor League Cricket club, Seattle Thunderbolts, in the USA. Valthaty retired from domestic cricket in 2023.
Valthaty made an incredible impact in IPL 2011 for Punjab Kings, hitting the season's first hundred -- an unbeaten 120 against the Super Kings but failed to replicate that season's success in the following years. He went on to score 463 runs in 14 matches in the 2011 IPL season, and played four first-class and five List-A matches.

Jasprit Bumrah Troubles India Batters During Training Session Ahead Of England Tests
India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is up and running in Beckenham, putting in the hard yards before the upcoming five high-stakes Tests against England, slated to kick off on June 20 at Headingley. A new era beckons for India in the Test format as the modern-day giants gear up for their first assignment without the prized batting bigwigs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shubman Gill, India's youngest Test captain, has taken the baton from Rohit to guide the nation to success and challenge for the World Test Championship mace. During India's training session in Beckenham, Kent's second home venue, Bumrah displayed his unparalleled mastery in the art of pace bowling. With the ball in his hand, Bumrah showed signs of breaking the notion of requiring assistance from the surface to wreak havoc. Deemed to be the world's current best, Bumrah extracted significant seam movement and constantly tested the outside edge of batters. He constrained the batters inside the crease with his searing yorker-length deliveries, according to ESPNcricinfo. The 31-year-old could be heard chatting with India bowling coach Morne Morkel about his two five-fors at Trent Bridge, according to ESPNcricinfo. He talked about how, on his first trip in 2018, the Duke's ball was doing things in swing and seam-friendly conditions. But on his later tours, it became less responsive. Bumrah's utilisation will remain limited throughout the five Tests in England. During the announcement of India's squad for the upcoming Test tour of England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed Bumrah was advised not to contest in consecutive Tests as part of his workload management. The precaution around Bumrah's usage stems from a stress reaction in the back during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney in January. He missed India's victory campaign in the Champions Trophy and returned to action for the Mumbai Indians in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). Last week, head coach Gautam Gambhir revealed that they have yet to take a call on which Tests India will field Bumrah in the playing XI. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav. Commentator's Virat Kohli Reference For Carlos Alcaraz In Old Video Goes Viral
Cricket might not be a global sport, but Virat Kohli is certainly a global athlete. The impact Virat has managed to create over the course of his esteemed career has drawn attention from not just cricket lovers but top athletes from other sports as well. As Spain's Carlos Alcaraz took on Italy's Jannik Sinner in the French Open 2025 men's singles final, an old video of the Spaniard went viral. In the video, the commentators couldn't help but compare the former's exploits with those of the Indian cricket icon. The video was from a match between Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas from 2023. Much like Virat did in cricket, Alcaraz has taken the tennis world by storm, thanks to his ability to excel in all conditions, against every opponent. The craft, skill, and grit that Alcaraz showed against Sinner in the Roland Garros summit clash on Sunday reminded the commentators of Virat. King Kohli is the face of World Cricket #Wimbledon — Shekhar (@Shekhar499) July 17, 2023 After losing the first two sets in the Roland Garros final, Alcaraz bounced back in style to beat Sinner 3-2 in a 5-set thriller that went down in history as the longest final ever in French Open history. In fact, Carlos Alcaraz saved three championship points as he produced an astonishing fightback. Reigning champion Alcaraz rallied from the brink of defeat to overcome world number one Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (10/2) to clinch his fifth Grand Slam title after five hours and 29 minutes. The 22-year-old Spaniard is now unbeaten in five Grand Slam finals after snapping Sinner's 20-match winning run at the majors. Alcaraz pulled off his first-ever comeback from two sets down to stun Sinner in the longest Roland Garros final in history. It easily eclipsed the 1982 final in Paris when Mats Wilander triumphed in four sets over Guillermo Vilas in 4 hours and 42 minutes. Alcaraz becomes the third youngest man to win five Grand Slams -- after Bjorn Borg and compatriot Rafael Nadal -- following an incredible duel between the two stars of a new generation. Sinner fell agonisingly short of a third successive Grand Slam crown after last year's US Open title and back-to-back Australian Open triumphs.
