While Moira Harding, the Comrades Marathon runner who went missing after completing the 2025 instalment of the Ultimate Human Race last month, is happy to be alive, she confirmed to IOL that she has no plans to return to run the gruelling race again next year.
Moira has since returned to Cape Town where she is recovering.
Three weeks ago, IOL was the first news outlet to report that the 54-year-old runner had gone missing. At the time, IOL reported that Harding completed the race just before 5pm and had not been seen since.
This kicked off a massive search for the 54-year-old Kommetjie runner.
Moira Harding completed the race in close to 11 hours.

Hours later, Harding was found near the Point Waterfront area, thanks to the ICE or In Case of Emergency bracelet she had around her wrist. Workers who found her were able to contact Harding's husband and the necessary emergency services attended to her.
Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics said paramedics, police, and Metro Police were called to the scene where Harding was found in a critical condition. She was airlifted to a hospital in uMhlanga.
In a post on her social media, Harding thanked all those who helped search for her.
"I went missing at the end of the Comrades Marathon and was found 15 hours later, unconscious and unresponsive due to severe dehydration and extremely low sodium levels resulting in disorientation and delirium," she explained.
Harding said the prayers of those who supported and prayed for her carried her through one of the toughest moments of her life.
"A special, heartfelt thanks to the people who found me and alerted the emergency services, to Brigadier Saunders, the police teams and staff at Netcare uMhlanga, I couldn't have wished for better care or more compassionate professionals. You saved my life," Harding said.
Harding further shared a special tribute to her husband, children and family who searched high and low for her.

Two dead in foiled cash-in-transit heist shootout
Police in the country have arrested three suspects and fatally wounded two others in two separate incidents, following their alleged involvement in cash-in-transit (CIT) heists. Two suspects were killed during a shootout after foiling a CIT heist in KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, 3 July. A multi-disciplinary intelligence-led operation led to the arrests of two other men for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and attempted murder. Investigations revealed that one of the arrested men is a former employee of a private security company. Police received intelligence about a planned heist and deployed officers to monitor and patrol the area. They spotted a Mercedes-Benz vehicle with four occupants and tactically approached it. However, as the police officers approached the vehicle, they came under fire from the suspects. Police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition from the scene. In a separate incident in Limpopo on Tuesday, 2 July, one suspect was arrested, and a getaway vehicle was recovered. This followed a brazen cash-in-transit robbery attempt. Three armed suspects allegedly approached a cash-in-transit vehicle collecting money from a hardware store. The suspects, wielding pistols, confronted security personnel at gunpoint and disarmed a guard who was carrying a cash case. As a result, a shootout ensued between the suspects and security guards. The suspects then fled the scene. CASH-IN-TRANSIT SUSPECTS REMAIN AT LARGE Police warned that three suspects remain at large and consider them armed and extremely dangerous. They believe the suspects fled in a white Volkswagen Golf 6 with Gauteng registration plates. 'The swift response by our integrated law enforcement teams demonstrates our commitment to combating violent crime and protecting our communities. We will not rest until all perpetrators are brought to justice,' said Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe Police urge members of the public to exercise extreme caution if they encounter the suspects. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App. IS ENOUGH BEING DONE TO TACKLE ORGANISED CRIME IN SOUTH AFRICA? Watch: Hopeful Pilanesberg lion tries to haul whole elephant by trunk
We all know lions are powerful, but one male lion in Pilanesberg took it to another level, trying to drag off an entire elephant by its trunk. In a video posted on Latest Sightings – Kruger's Facebook page, an ambitious male seemed determined to claim the whole elephant for himself, tugging at the trunk with impressive strength, but way too much confidence. According to information in the Facebook post, the elephant was seriously injured in a fight and unable to move, and was humanely euthanised by park management last week. Lions then took over the scene, feasting and squabbling over the massive carcass.
