Three more of 10 escapees from New Orleans jail captured, leaving two on run
Three more of the 10 inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail earlier this month have been re-arrested in two different states after more than a week on the run, authorities have said.
One of the men was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, by local police and two others were arrested in Walker County, Texas, by officials there, Louisiana State Police posted on X.

Two more inmates are still on the run, state police said. No other details were immediately released about the latest arrests on Monday.

Authorities have been scouring the New Orleans area for the men after they escaped in a May 16 jailbreak.
The men yanked open a faulty cell door inside a jail, squeezed through a hole behind a toilet, scaled a barbed-wire fence and fled under cover of darkness.
The inmates' absence was not discovered until a morning headcount, hours after their bid for freedom. Graffiti left on the wall included the message 'To Easy LoL', with an arrow pointing to the gap.

City and state officials have pointed to multiple security lapses in the jail.

Louisiana authorities named the latest inmates who were recaptured as Lenton Vanburen, Leo Tate and Jermaine Donald. Jail escapees Dkenan Dennis, Corey Boyd, Gary C Price, Kendell Myles and Robert Moody were previously taken into custody by authorities.
Many of the men were originally in the New Orleans jail awaiting sentences or trials for alleged violent crimes including murder.
After the escape, a jail maintenance worker was arrested and accused of turning off the water to the toilet, an act authorities said helped the men get out. The worker said he had been threatened by one of the inmates if he refused to do so.

In addition, four other people have been arrested for allegedly helping the inmates once they were on the loose.

He responded to the remark by covering his face with his hands while PC Wylie was in 'utter shock' and told Irvine off about using racial stereotypes. She reported the matter to senior members of staff several days later. Irvine has been suspended since March 2023 and is subject to an ongoing disciplinary process. She denied in court making the racial comment stating to her lawyer Iain Cahill, that she instead said: 'Wouldn't it be good if we just got on with our jobs?' Irvine added that her two colleagues were '100 per cent mistaken' with their claims. When convicting her, Sheriff Diana McConnell said: 'I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt you made the comment that was abusive, vulgar and disparaging. You used a racial slur. 'In the whole context, it is likely that this would cause a reasonable person to suffer alarm. 'You were reckless to whether your conduct would cause alarm.' Sheriff McConnell fined Irvine a total of £520. Following the sentencing, Chief Superintendent Helen Harrison, Professional Standards Department, said: 'PC Irvine's actions go against everything we stand for. 'All officers are bound by our Standards of Professional Behaviour, which apply on and off duty. 'Any instance where an officer fails to uphold our standards will be investigated and appropriate action taken. 'A report will now be prepared for the Deputy Chief Constable for consideration of misconduct proceedings.'

Reddit sues AI startup Anthropic for allegedly using data without permission
June 4 (Reuters) - Reddit (RDDT.N), opens new tab sued the artificial intelligence startup Anthropic on Wednesday, accusing it of stealing data from the social media discussion website to train its AI models despite publicly assuring it wouldn't. The complaint filed in San Francisco Superior Court is the latest battle over AI companies' alleged unauthorized use of third-party content. Anthropic's backers include (AMZN.O), opens new tab and Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab. "We disagree with Reddit's claims and will defend ourselves vigorously," an Anthropic spokesperson said. According to the complaint, Anthropic has resisted entering a licensing agreement even as it trained its Claude chatbot on Reddit content, despite assuring last July it had blocked its bots from accessing Reddit's platform. Reddit quoted Claude admitting it was "trained on at least some Reddit data" and did not know if that content was deleted. It also said Anthropic's bots have accessed or tried to access Reddit content more than 100,000 times, undermining the company's allegedly styling itself as an AI "white knight" committed to trust and honesty. "Anthropic refuses to respect Reddit's guardrails and enter into a license agreement," unlike Google and OpenAI, the complaint said. By scraping content and using it for commercial purposes, Anthropic violated Reddit's user policy and "enriched itself to the tune of tens of billions of dollars," the complaint added. In a statement, Reddit Chief Legal Officer Ben Lee said "we believe in an open internet," but AI companies need "clear limitations" on how they use content they scrape. Reddit and Anthropic are based in San Francisco, about a 10-minute walk from each other. The lawsuit seeks unspecified restitution and punitive damages, and an injunction prohibiting Anthropic from using Reddit content for commercial purposes. Anthropic introduced its newest Claude models, Opus 4 and Sonnet 4, on May 22. Overall annualized revenue has reached $3 billion, two people familiar with the matter said last week.
