Jens Berthel Askou says his side are ready to face the Ibrox giants Jens Berthel Askou says his Motherwell side are as prepared as they can be for their Premiership opener at home to Rangers next Saturday. The Lanarkshire side drew 1-1 with German 2 Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin at Fir Park on Friday night in their final warm-up game before Russell Martin brings his Rangers side to town. Askou feels that the Premier Sports Cup group stage games and friendlies have allowed him to properly assess his squad, so that he knows who should play where, and which areas need to be strengthened. He said: 'I think we are as prepared as we can be. We would like to have had a few more weeks with just one game a week, because it would have given us some extra time to train and load them differently. 'We could have put more volume into the week, in terms of running and specific phases in training, but that's how it is. 'I think we've got the most out of it, we've had the results we wanted and needed, and progress in many phases of the game, and then we know we have to keep building over the summer. 'We still have to add players to the squad, and we also know that our goal is not to be the best we can be in July or August, but to be the best team we can be this season, and from next season, see if we can become even better. 'I think the games have been very competitive, so it's not like we've missed competition. There have been some really tough cup games for us as well. 'We had a good intense game against Carlisle United, Twente, and [Hertha Berlin] was surely very competitive as well. 'We're getting answers every week of what do we think of the players in the squad, who will play that role the most. 'We've swapped a little bit in different positions, because the system we play is a little bit different from what they've been used to. 'That means some of the answers we had a couple of weeks ago are maybe different to what we're getting now, so it's a bigger puzzle, and we're working with it every day, but I think we're getting more and more valuable information. 'That lets us figure what position we need to target.' On Hertha, Askou said: 'It's the closest we'd get to the standard of Rangers. 'The team we played is pushing to get back to the Bundesliga, and have a good possibility of getting there, with some really good players who have a lot of experience at a very high level. 'I expected this to be a very hard test, it was for sure, but I think we managed it very well. 'We looked the fitter team in the end and I was impressed with that and I was happy with many things. 'In the first 10 or 15 minutes during the middle of the second half we started to look really tired, and were able to pull ourselves up, without the possibility to swap five players. 'I was also happy with the intensity that we started the game with, and some of the spells we had throughout the game, and the courage to press them high on many occasions. 'In the moments when we struggled a little bit, we didn't lose the bravery and didn't drop back more than necessary.'

'Cam's been my friend for a long time so it kind of cut off quick about the football conversation and went to life because I've just had a kid. 'But it was a good conversation. I know Auston Trusty is there with him now too and what they did last season so congratulations to them. 'Cam is the man, I always saw it coming that he would play at a high level. I know he loves Scotland, he always talks about it so it was a really good conversation.' Palmer-Brown was one of two Panathinaikos players guilty of spurning big chances before Rangers blazed ahead at Ibrox through Findlay Curtis. The 28-year-old former Manchester City defender watched his first half effort brilliantly saved by Jack Butland, who also denied Filip Duricic twice. Rui Vitoria's side know they let Gers off the hook with the second half red card dished out to Georgia's Vagiannidis leaving them a man short for the final half hour.. But with temperatures forecast to still be well clear of 30C by kick off time they are ready to turn up the heat on Martin's men. Palmer-Brown said: 'The atmosphere was amazing at Ibrox. The walkout song, Simply the Best, was really cool to walk out to as well. 'The goalkeeper had a really good performance. Some of these were our mistakes, we had my chance as well. I've got to put that away. 'We hope he doesn't have as good a game as last week. We are going to give it our best. We did a lot of things well. We didn't finish off the chances we created and ultimately that hurt us. 'This is football and sometimes it's cruel. You get unlucky sometimes. 'This game we need to take advantage of the chances we create. 'As a group we know what's on the line. We can't concede any more goals and we have to score multiple goals so our goal is to go out there, play for the fans, play for the club and we are going to do that to the best of our ability.' Palmer-Brown knows Panathinaikos have no option but to go after Rangers in a bid to save their £40m Champions League dream. But he also knows the Ibrox side carry a real threat on the counter. He said: 'We learned a lot about Rangers. They are very good with the ball, bringing those wing backs inside a little bit to play. 'They are also very good in. One on one situations out wide. They had some good options, attacking threats and even off the bench the guy came in and did well. 'We learned we can count the on the counter too. They made mistakes but we never put our chances away. 'I really do believe we can do that, go out there and do this. But also from ourselves our standpoint is to go out there and do what we did similarly and finish our chances. 'We created so many but with the way the result went we know we can't give up too many at the back.'

Angels heating up, look for series win vs. Rangers
July 29 - The Los Angeles Angels will try to accomplish something they haven't done in over a month when they face the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night in Anaheim, Calif. Win three games in a row. The Angels haven't won a trio of consecutive games since June 23-25 when they swept a three-game series from the Boston Red Sox. Los Angeles is 4 1/2 games behind Boston for the final American League wild-card spot. The Rangers are a half-game back. All-Star Yusei Kikuchi (4-7, 3.23 ERA) gets the start for Los Angeles on Tuesday and will be opposed by fellow veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin (6-7, 3.78). Kikuchi is 4-2 with a 5.01 ERA in 10 career appearances (nine starts) against the Rangers. Corbin is 3-0 with a 4.62 ERA in five career starts against the Angels. He picked up the win in a 11-4 victory at Anaheim Stadium on July 10, allowing two runs -- a two-run homer by Taylor Ward -- on seven hits in five innings while striking out six. Corbin comes in on a roll, going 2-0 with a 2.01 ERA in four starts in July, including back-to-back road wins at San Diego and in Los Angeles against the Angels.
