Ripple Secures UAE Partnerships with Zand Bank and Mamo for Blockchain Payments

Fintech News ME20-05-2025

Ripple has announced two new partnerships in the UAE for its Ripple Payments service.
The cross-border payments platform, which uses blockchain technology and a network of global payout partners, will now be used by Zand Bank and Mamo.
The development follows Ripple's recent approval by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), making it the first blockchain-based payments firm to be licensed by the regulator.
The DFSA license enables Ripple to offer end-to-end payment services in and out of the UAE, operating continuously and settling transactions within minutes.
'With the DFSA license, Ripple can address inefficiencies in traditional cross-border payments, including high fees, long settlement times, and limited transparency,'
said Reece Merrick, Managing Director, Middle East and Africa at Ripple.
'Our partnerships with Zand Bank and Mamo reflect the momentum created by the licence. As the global cross-border payments market expands, the UAE's regulatory support for crypto innovation positions the country and its companies to benefit from blockchain technology.'
Ripple noted that demand for its payments platform is growing across the Middle East, from both crypto-native firms and traditional financial institutions.
The company's 2025 New Value Report found that 64% of financial leaders in the Middle East and Africa identified faster payment and settlement times as the main reason to incorporate blockchain-based currencies into cross-border transactions.
Chirag Sampat, Head of Treasury and Markets at Zand Bank, said the institution is focused on supporting the UAE's digital economy through a combination of AI, blockchain services, and digital asset custody.
'Our collaboration with Ripple highlights our commitment to enabling global payments through blockchain. We also plan to launch an AED-backed stablecoin to facilitate more efficient digital transactions.'
Ripple Payments currently supports more than 90 payout markets, covering over 90% of the global daily FX market and processing more than US$70 billion in volume.
The service is available in Dubai, the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, and Switzerland.
Ripple holds over 60 regulatory licenses and registrations globally, including the DFSA license granted in March 2025.

PureHealth Commits AED 2.25 Billion to Bolster UAE's Healthcare Supply Chains

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai PureHealth, the Middle East's largest healthcare group, has announced that its total investment in locally sourced goods and services has reached AED 2.25 billion, reinforcing its commitment to the UAE's National In-Country Value Programme. This milestone was highlighted during the 2025 edition of the 'Make it in the Emirates' initiative, underscoring the group's dedication to enhancing the nation's industrial and healthcare sectors. In 2024 alone, PureHealth channelled AED 1 billion into the national economy, marking a 38% increase compared to the previous year. This significant uptick aligns with the UAE's strategic objectives to localise supply chains, promote national enterprises, and accelerate economic diversification. ADVERTISEMENT Since joining the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology's ICV Programme in 2022, PureHealth has set an ambitious target to allocate AED 13 billion towards local procurement by 2032. The group's efforts are in tandem with the UAE's broader industrial strategy, which aims to elevate the industrial sector's GDP contribution to AED 300 billion by 2031. Shaista Asif, Group Chief Executive Officer of PureHealth, emphasised the long-term vision behind this investment, stating, 'By advancing our In-Country Value goals, we are localising critical supply chains, supporting homegrown innovation, and enabling the development of advanced healthcare manufacturing capabilities. This is not just about meeting today's needs, but building a sustainable, self-sufficient healthcare system that serves UAE communities for generations to come while supporting the nation's economic and industrial ambitions.' The group's commitment is evident in the strong ICV performance across its subsidiaries. Abu Dhabi Health Services Company holds the highest ICV score in the UAE healthcare sector at 81.13%, while Daman, the leading health insurer, ranks second in the UAE insurance sector with a score of 71.86%. Additionally, PureLab and The Medical Office have secured their ICV certifications, and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is expected to receive its certification later this year, moving the group closer to full compliance. Leya Al Damani, Chief Sustainability Officer at PureHealth, highlighted the synergy between sustainability and localisation, noting, 'Through partnerships with UAE-based suppliers that share our environmental and quality standards, we are creating long-term value that benefits both our healthcare system and the national economy. The National In-Country Value Programme gives us a powerful framework to scale this impact measurably and responsibly, while also fostering a supportive environment for the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises across the country.'

Dubai Retains Global Top Spot for attracting Greenfield FDI Projects in cultural and creative industries in 2024

(Dubai Culture) Dubai has maintained its first place as the world's leading destination for greenfield foreign direct investment (FDI) in the cultural and creative industries (CCI), topping the Financial Times' fDi Markets ranking for the third consecutive year. The 2024 report, which assessed 233 cities under the 'Creative Industries Cluster' classification, placed Dubai ahead of global hubs such as London and Singapore. During the year, the emirate attracted 971 CCI projects—an 8% increase from 2023—bringing in AED 18.86 billion in capital inflows, up nearly 60% from 2023, and generating 23,517 new jobs, a 9% year-on-year rise. All major CCI subsectors saw stronger performance, with notable growth in advertising and PR, film and media production, gaming, education, and advanced software design. According to the Dubai FDI Monitor, greenfield, wholly-owned ventures made up 76.5% of all projects, while new forms of investment represented 15.4%, reinvestment 5.6%, and mergers & acquisitions (2.4%). Data from the Dubai FDI Monitor and the Dubai Framework for Cultural Statistics show that the United States accounted for the largest share of capital inflows in 2024, at 23.2%, followed by India (13.4%), the United Kingdom (9.4%), Switzerland (7.6%), and Saudi Arabia (4.8%). India led in both the number of projects (18.8%) and jobs (18.5%), while the UK, US, Germany, Italy, and France also featured prominently across both metrics. Investor confidence continues to be driven by Dubai's pro-business reforms, including Executive Council Resolution 11 of 2025, which enables free zone businesses to operate onshore, expanding commercial flexibility. The city's Zero Government Bureaucracy programme is also reducing red tape across more than 2,000 federal procedures. Combined with strong intellectual property protections and advanced digital infrastructure, these initiatives have helped establish a regulatory framework marked by efficiency, transparency, and ease of doing business. Insights from the 'Creative Dubai: Navigating Tomorrow's Creative Landscape' report illustrate how this ecosystem is scaling with demand, pinpointing investment opportunity hotspots in design, immersive media and AI-driven production. Dubai continues to offer investors access to top-tier talent, competitive setup costs, and strategic connectivity. The 2024 FDI results underscore the city's rise as a global hub for innovation and one of the world's most attractive environments for creative enterprise.
