Carving Semiconductors into Glass, the Dream Material
SEOUL, South Korea, July 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- JNTC Co., Ltd. (KOSDAQ: 204270), a leading advanced materials company, hosted a product launch on June 30 at the Korea Exchange Conference Hall, unveiling its new Through-Glass-Via (TGV) glass substrate under the theme Carving Semiconductors into Glass, the Dream Material.' The event drew more than 200 attendees, including journalists and investors.
CEO Andrew Cho introduced the proprietary TGV glass substrate as a breakthrough solution to the limitations of plastic-based substrates. Designed for AI and high-performance computing applications, the substrate offers excellent flatness and thermal stability, which help reduce warpage and heat generation under high-speed processing.
JNTC completed its domestic production line in June and expects to begin full-scale manufacturing in August, following test runs in July. Unlike competitors, JNTC built and engineered most of its core production equipment in-house, enabling cost efficiency and full process independence. This approach cut initial investment costs to about one-fifth of the industry average.
The newly unveiled substrates support various sizes and thicknesses and feature high-precision via holes (0% microcrack). JNTC also developed its own etching, metalizing (void free), and processing technologies, achieving yields above 90% with minimal defects. Additional packaging features such as alignment marks and cavities have undergone performance verification with global semiconductor leaders.
"TGV glass substrates are emerging as critical components in next-gen semiconductor packaging," Cho said. "We have secured a clear edge in quality and cost, and are currently working with 16 global partners across the semiconductor ecosystem. This launch signals our ambition to become a leading global player in precision glass materials."
JNTC plans to expand exports and establish a large-scale manufacturing base in Vietnam in the second half of the year, further strengthening its position in the global advanced packaging market.

No talks yet on USFK downsizing: FM nominee

South Korea's Foreign Minister nominee Cho Hyun said Tuesday that Seoul and Washington have yet to hold any discussions on the possibility of withdrawing or downsizing the 28,500-strong US Forces Korea. 'The issues (related to the withdrawal or downsizing of the USFK) weren't discussed at all,' Cho said in a document filed with the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee ahead of his parliamentary confirmation hearing. Cho's remark addresses the reports in recent months that the Donald Trump administration seeks to adjust the role of the USFK to focus on deterring threats from China. Aligned with its goal, the Trump administration has been ramping up its demand that its allies and partners increase defense spending. It added that South Korea and other Asian allies are subject to the new 'global standard' of spending 5 percent of their gross domestic product on defense. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization member states recently agreed to raise their defense spending target to 5 percent of GDP from the current 2 percent by 2035. Pointing to Washington's demand and growing pressure against Seoul to shoulder more defense costs in maintaining the USFK on the peninsula, Cho reiterated the Foreign Ministry's stance that the latest South Korea-US defense cost-sharing deal for the 2026-2030 period should be upheld. 'Our government's stance is that the 12th Special Measures Agreement, which was effectively agreed upon and is in effect, is not subject to renegotiation,' Cho said. 'We plan to actively explain to the US about the extensive contribution (that South Korea) has continuously expanded for the alliance, including the cost of maintaining US troops (on the peninsula).' Seoul is to pay 1.52 trillion won ($1.1 billion) next year for the stationing of the USFK here, under the 12th SMA signed with Washington during the previous Joe Biden administration. The figure is up 1.4 trillion won this year. The nominee pledged to advance the decades-old South Korea-US alliance by establishing a joint future-oriented vision as well as pursuing cooperation that would be mutually beneficial. Cho indirectly called the preceding Yoon Suk Yeol administration's North Korea policy, which focused on 'establishing peace through strength,' a failure. 'Technically, no progress was made on resolving the North's nuclear issues, as the North's nuclear and missile capabilities became more advanced with an increase in missile provocations,' the nominee pointed out. Cho said that the Lee Jae Myung administration will deal with the North's nuclear issues by reviving inter-Korean dialogue and building trust with Pyongyang.

Yutong C12PRO Philippines Fuel Saving Challenge: Fuel Consumption per 100 Kilometers Under Complex Road Conditions 12% Lower Than Previous Generation

MANILA, Philippines, July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Yutong Bus ("Yutong", SHA: 600066), a global commercial vehicle manufacturer, recently conducted the C12PRO Fuel Saving Challenge on a 524-kilometer round-trip route from Manila to Baguio City, a major corridor in the Philippine passenger and tourism industry. The event, held under real-world operating conditions, aimed to verify the fuel efficiency of the C12PRO, a 12-meter long-distance luxury coach. The challenge addressed three key issues facing the country's passenger transport sector, namely, high fuel prices, prolonged extreme heat exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, and complex, mixed road conditions. The route included 100 kilometers of mountainous roads, 360 kilometers of highways, and 64 kilometers of urban streets. The vehicle carried 22 passengers and a 600-kilogram counterweight. Throughout the test, outside temperatures reached 35 degrees Celsius, with the air conditioning set to a constant 20 degrees, reflecting typical working conditions in the region. Total fuel used was 143.55 liters with a comprehensive fuel efficiency of 3.65 km/liter. The C12PRO demonstrates 12% higher fuel efficiency than the previous generation model. The test measured performance across various driving conditions, with the vehicle averaging 4.39 km/liter on highways, 3.60 km/liter in urban areas, and 2.97 km/liter on mountainous roads. Yutong's C12PRO is equipped with advanced technologies to boost fuel efficiency and performance. Its intelligent computing platform is based on actual road conditions and road map data covering over 100 countries or regions. A proprietary bus industry road map database has been constructed, which can quickly form a power configuration that adapts to the customer's operating conditions, with approximately 2% fuel savings. Another in-house innovation, Yutong's intelligent temperature control system, uses ambient temperature and load data to manage engine cooling more precisely. Featuring waste heat recovery and smart fan control, it improves combustion and cuts fuel use by another 2%. Powering the C12PRO is a high-efficiency, low-speed, high-torque engine next-gen diesel platform. With a B10 life of 1.8 million kilometers, 1900 Nm of torque, the engine delivers strong low-speed power and reduces fuel consumption by 3% or more under real-world conditions. In the future, Yutong will also conduct fuel-saving performance tests on the C-PRO series in the Americas, Africa, and other regions to optimize product efficiency and help global customers reduce costs and increase efficiency.
