Tower has today announced a new partnership with Sedgwick, a global leader in loss adjusting, to ensure fast claims assessments for Tower customers during large weather events.
The new partnership means Tower will have access to additional support from Sedgwick's loss adjusters across New Zealand and the Pacific. External loss adjusters are typically used in the insurance industry for continuity of service in times of increased demand, for example, during stormy weather.
Tower Chief Claims Officer Steve Wilson says, 'As a forward-thinking insurer, we are thrilled to partner with Sedgwick to help ensure we continue to be there for our customers, no matter what.'
'The Tower team will still be with you every step of the way to progress and settle your claim. This partnership means we can assess damage and start the claims process faster during claims peaks, with more loss adjusting resource ready to go, if needed.'
The new partnership will benefit all Tower customers throughout New Zealand and the Pacific, including in smaller locations where Tower may not have a large in-region assessing or loss adjusting team.
The increased assessing resource also means specialist Tower assessors are focused on handling more complex claims.
Sedgwick New Zealand CEO Philip van Zyl says, 'We're delighted to support Tower, as a trusted Kiwi business that shares our commitment to helping communities rebuild after a loss. Through this partnership, we will combine our strengths and expertise to drive better outcomes for all stakeholders. It is about making recovery smoother, more accessible, and more effective for everyone impacted.'

Seascape tower construction resumes, structural integrity confirmed

That was after China Construction left the site over a $30m-plus payment dispute with Shundi Customs. Seascape, the 183m tall apartment skyscraper, dominates Auckland's skyline. Photo / Jason Oxenham A new construction contract between Shundi Customs and Icon is to be signed once subcontractor pricing was finalised, ensuring transparency and cost certainty. Seascape was expected to be completed 'in approximately 18 months', Shao said. Icon was engaged in April under a construction management agreement. Shao said Bayleys Real Estate had been appointed to sell the remaining approximately one-quarter of unsold units, including penthouses. 'With construction again established, Shundi is now gearing up marketing and sales, launching a campaign that will make a strong pitch to New Zealand buyers,' Shao said. Work has resumed at Seascape. Photo / Jason Oxenham Architects Peddlethorp had also designed new floor layouts to appeal to New Zealand buyers. More two-bedroom, two-bathroom units will be marketed, which Kiwis like, Shao said. 'This is a new chapter for Seascape. With Bayleys now leading our sales campaign and updated floor plans suited to New Zealand buyers' preferences, we anticipate strong interest from Kiwis who want to live or future-proof in Auckland's CBD in a world-class tower with unparalleled views of the Waitematā Harbour,' he said. Gavin Lloyd, Bayleys' residential projects general manager, said the agency was selling units in Seascape. Dan Bosher heads Icon, which has the job of finishing Seascape. He is pictured here in front of another job on Albert St. Photo / Jason Oxenham 'Buyers who purchase now will gain the full benefit of the increase in value that will occur as the market recovers,' Lloyd forecast. However, Liam Dann wrote yesterday that New Zealand was not undergoing a housing market meltdown, but a full-blown crash: Auckland home values are 19.7% below the peak, while Wellington's are 27.3% lower. Shao's statement today also said Seascape was the first New Zealand building to win a structure award of excellence from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. His written statement was headed 'resumption of Seascape construction signals confidence'. That began: 'Construction of Shundi Customs' iconic Seascape tower is back on track after an eight-month hiatus.' The spokesman said the break was eight months because work ceased last August and on-site activity recommenced in April. Last August, China Construction told 25 subcontractors it had suspended work on Seascape. Subcontractors included carpenters, plumbers, electricians, steel fabricators and others. The MGS5 EV goes on sale with bonus prize for earlybirds

MG Motor New Zealand says its new MGS5 EV will go on sale this month, available with two battery sizes and in Excite and Essence spec variants. Price range from $44,990 to $54,990, all exclusive of ORCs. Those in early go home with a free wall charger. A driving range of up to 430km (WLTP) is evidently possible with the 62kWh battery. It is also available with a 49kWh pack (340km of range, WLTP). Both are of the LFP variety. MG says a 30 to 80 per cent recharge takes 19 minutes on a fast charger. All variants are RWD and feature a rear-mounted motor that's good for 125kW and 250Nm of torque. Zero to 100 takes a tick over eight sec for each. Think of the MGS5 as the SUV version of the MG4. It shares the same Modular Scalable Platform with the hatch, so should have similar rear-drive dynamics. The battery pack is 110mm high, creating added passenger and luggage space. Standard items include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 12.8-inch display. This features MG's upgraded interface technology. Essence adds a hands-free power tailgate and panoramic sunroof. MG New Zealand is offering a free bonus for the first 30 customers who take delivery of an MGS5; they will also receive a 7kW MG Charge Hub when they collect their car. The MG Charge Hub means owners can recharge their vehicle from 10 to 80 per cent overnight. Peter Ciao, CEO for MG Motor Australia and New Zealand, commented, 'The MGS5 EV will offer the best value for Kiwi families in the electric SUV segment. 'Our MG engineers have designed a beautiful looking car, featuring a great range of technology features as standard. 'New Zealanders loved the driving dynamics of the MG4, and these are carried over to the MGS5 EV. 'Our love of an SUV, combined with MG's upgraded tech features, means the MGS5 EV is sure to be embraced by Kiwi motorists. '2025 continues to be an exciting year for MG Motor New Zealand and the MGS5 EV reflects the value MG is committed to delivering. Whatever stage they are in, MG will deliver unmatched value for all New Zealanders.' Other MGS5 features include 40:60 split rear seats, 453-1441L of boot space, and five-link rear suspension. The MGS5 is also compatible with MG's iSMART mobile application. This allows owners to control key functions remotely, including charging and route planning. The iSMART app shows the vehicle's precise location on the in-built map, ensuring drivers never lose track of where they have parked. All MGS5 models carry the company's 10-year/250,000km warranty. They are available through dealerships around New Zealand of which there are now nearly twenty. The MGS5 carries a five-star safety rating, achieved this year. For more on the MGS see here.
