Golf's biggest team match is coming to Spain as the 2031 Ryder Cup will take place in Camiral Golf Course in Girona.
2031 also marks a return to Spain, 34 years after Spanish great Seve Ballesteros led Europe to victory over the USA at Valderrama. The course is the number 1 course in Spain, ranked amongst the top-20 in the world and has five-star Hotel and state-of-the-art Wellness Centre.
The course, formerly known as PGA Catalunya is part of the Quinta do Lago group owned by Denis O'Brien and has previously hosted the Open de Espana three times in 2000, 2009 and 2014 and the Sarazen World Open in 1999. Camiral is on the doorstep of Barcelona, Girona and Costa Brava and speaking with Extra.ie, course owners and entrepreneurs Denis O'Brien and Catherine O'Brien talked about how hosting the Ryder Cup is a destiny fulfilled and what it will mean for the local economy of Girona and Catalunya.
'Hosting The Ryder Cup is the realisation of a long-held dream to bring golf's greatest sporting event to Catalonia and Spain.
'For the communities of Girona, Costa Brava and Barcelona, it will create immediate economic benefits, driving high value golf and leisure tourism in the years leading up to The 2031 Ryder Cup, and a long-lasting legacy built on the reputation of hosting one of the greatest sporting events in the world.
'We would like to thank the Catalan and Spanish Government and the Spanish Golf Federation for all of their support and we look forward to continuing our great relationship with the Ryder Cup Committee.' The Ryder Cup is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, watched by millions around the globe and is looking to leave a lasting legacy, with long-term economic benefits worth millions to the community before, during and after the event.
With Adare Manor being the next European host in 2027, today's news also mean that the Ryder Cup will be hosted by two Irish-owned Golf Courses over the next decade. Thomas Partey close to joining Villarreal on week of court appearance

The former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is poised to join Villarreal on a free transfer this week. Partey is due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on Tuesday after being charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault last month, a few days after he left Arsenal having failed to agree a new deal. He has denied all the charges. Partey is understood to have completed his medical at Villarreal having settled on personal terms for a move back to Spain, where he has played for Atlético Madrid, Mallorca and Almería. He is believed to have agreed a one-year contract with an option to extend by 12 months, and the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season is thought to have been a motivating factor in the 32-year-old's decision. Partey also had offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Arsenal are due to host Villarreal in a friendly on Wednesday. Some supporters of the Spanish club have voiced opposition to his expected move, with a hashtag #NoAThomasPartey (No to Thomas Partey) trending on X and others being encouraged to write to Villarreal to express disappointment. Partey had been the subject of an investigation that began in February 2022, with the allegations relating to three women who reported incidents between 2021 and 2022. Partey's lawyer has said her client 'welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name'. Partey continued to play for Arsenal after first being arrested on suspicion of rape in July 2022 and held talks about extending his contract after Mikel Arteta said he was keen for him to stay. Arsenal's manager said last month he was '100%' sure Arsenal followed the correct protocols over Partey. — The Guardian

The 27-year-old forward signed for the Spanish giants on a season-long loan from Manchester United last month. 1 Marcus Rashford is able to train and feature in friendly matches whilst he waits to be registered for LaLiga Credit: Getty Rashford's first goal for Barca rounded off a 5-0 thrashing of South Korean side Daegu FC in the Far East on Monday. The England winger delivered a composed finish as he confidently found the bottom corner from 12 yards out in the 65th minute. Despite it being Rashford's third friendly appearance in red and blue, he has not been registered to play in LaLiga yet. It comes after the club failed to meet the league's salary limits once again. Rashford and fellow new arrival Joan Garcia could now be in the same situation as they wait to be registered. But with less than two weeks to go before the team's opening league game against Mallorca, the Man Utd loanee is not worried. Before kick-off he said: "It's something for the club to sort out. I believe they are going to get it sorted. I just focus on training and be ready for the start of the season." "He's fast, strong, committed, and did everything he could to sign for Barca. He put pressure on his agent, spoke to the club, and at the same time, spoke to Manchester United." Laporta added that more signings could still be made despite the registration concerns already existing.
