Google Launches App to Run AI Models Without Internet - Jordan News

Jordan News01-06-2025
Last week, Google quietly released a new app that allows users to run a variety of artificial intelligence models—available through the Hugging Face platform—directly on their smartphones, without needing an internet connection. اضافة اعلان The app, named Google AI Edge Gallery, is currently available for Android devices and is expected to launch soon on iOS. It enables users to search, download, and run compatible AI models offline by leveraging supported phone processors. While cloud-based AI models typically offer more power, they come with certain drawbacks. Some users may be reluctant to send personal or sensitive data to remote data centers, or may prefer to access AI features without relying on Wi-Fi or mobile networks. Google has labeled the app as an "Alpha release," and it can be downloaded from GitHub by following the published setup instructions. The app's home screen features a shortcut to Google's Gemma 3n model. A notable feature in the app is the 'Prompt Lab', which allows users to perform simple tasks like summarizing or rephrasing text using templates and customizable settings to fine-tune model behavior. Google warns that performance may vary across devices: newer smartphones with more powerful components will run models faster. However, model size also plays a crucial role—larger models take more time to complete tasks like answering questions about an image compared to smaller ones.
Google is inviting the developer community to share feedback on their experience with the Google AI Edge Gallery. The app is released under the Apache 2.0 license, allowing for wide use, including in commercial contexts, without significant restrictions.

Apple Intelligence's ChatGPT integration will use GPT-5 starting with iOS 26

Ammon News - OpenAI just announced its GPT-5 AI model on Thursday, but you won't be able to use it with Apple Intelligence's ChatGPT integration until iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac. Apple Intelligence can rely on ChatGPT for things like helping answer certain Siri queries or alongside Apple's Google Lens-like Visual Intelligence feature, but right now, it uses OpenAI's GPT-4o model. Apple has only publicly said its next major software updates will arrive in the 'fall,' and they'll probably launch for everyone next month. But I've asked Apple if GPT-5 will be included with the developer and / or public betas of those updates, and if so, when it might be available. GPT-5 was released to all ChatGPT users on Thursday, meaning that you'll even be able to try it as part of the free tier. OpenAI says that ChatGPT is now used by about 700 million people every week. OpenAI is practically giving ChatGPT to US government for free

Ammon News - OpenAI is poised to undercut rivals like Anthropic and Google in the race to see its AI tools integrated into federal agency workflows. The AI giant has reached an agreement with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the government's central purchasing arm, to offer ChatGPT Enterprise to participating federal agencies for just $1 per agency for the next year. The partnership comes a day after the GSA added OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic to a list of approved AI vendors that can offer their services to civilian federal agencies. The companies will see their tools offered via the Multiple Award Schedule (MAS), a federal contracting platform that lets government agencies access AI tools via pre-negotiated contracts so they don't have to negotiate with vendors individually. It's not clear whether other AI firms are going to offer their services at such a discounted rate, though GSA Federal Acquisition Service commissioner Josh Gruenbaum in a statement encouraged 'other American AI technology companies to follow OpenAI's lead and work with us.' In addition to access to ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI is offering unlimited use of advanced models for an additional 60 days. Federal employees will also have access to a new government user community and tailored introductory training resources to get familiar with OpenAI's tools. TechCrunch

Simple Fixes to Give Your Slow Android Phone a Speed Boost - Jordan News

Over time, smartphones naturally tend to slow down. However, with a few small tweaks, you can revive your device and postpone that expensive upgrade a bit longer. اضافة اعلان Most of these changes can be made directly within your phone's settings — from clearing app clutter and optimizing battery use to disabling background processes that drain system resources. Luckily, some simple adjustments can make your phone feel noticeably faster almost instantly. Declutter Your Home Screen Take a few minutes to go through your home screen or app drawer and remove any apps you no longer use. These apps don't just take up valuable storage space — they may also access your personal information via permissions you granted when first launching the app. Free Up Storage Space After deleting unused apps, free up additional space by reviewing your saved files and removing those you no longer need. It's easy to forget about the random downloads we accumulate — like a takeout menu from a new restaurant or a photo a friend sent. Over time, these files build up and weigh down your device. Start by checking your Downloads folder. You can delete unnecessary files or move them to cloud storage platforms like Google Drive. Tweak Display Settings One of Android's best features is the ability to fully customize your phone's appearance. From installing custom icon packs to replacing the launcher entirely, there are endless options. While you can explore app launchers and icon packs, start by diving into your phone's home screen settings. You'll be surprised how a few simple design changes can make your phone feel like a brand-new device. Optimize Your Settings Speaking of settings, now is a good time to review and adjust anything that's been bothering you. Android phones offer a wide range of options you can personalize to get the most out of your device. For instance, you can disable transition animations between screens to speed things up, or enable dark mode to conserve battery life. Review Your Privacy Settings Finally, do yourself (and your Android phone) a favor by checking your privacy settings. Open the Settings app, tap Privacy, then go to Permission Manager. Go through each category to see which apps currently have access to your personal data. If you find an app that you'd prefer not to have access to your location, simply revoke it. The same goes for contacts, calendar, or camera access.
