that in some of his last words, Francis thanked him for encouraging him to take one last ride in the popemobile. "Thank you for bringing me back to the Square," the pope said, according to Strappetti.
The nurse, who was appointed as Francis' personal healthcare assistant in 2022, had been by the Pope's side during his 38-day hospitalization at Rome's Gemelli Hospital and had watched over him during his recovery at the Casa Santa Marta.
He was also with the Pope on Easter Sunday. On Saturday, they had traveled to St Peter's Basilica together to review the "route" Francis would take.
The late Pope wished to offer a final meaningful surprise to the devoted crowd with a ride in his popemobile following the blessing on the balcony of St Peter's Basilica façade on Sunday but was unsure if he'd be capable.

Around an hour later, the Pope made a farewell gesture with his hand to Strapetti and while lying in a bed in his second-floor apartment at the Casa Santa Marta he fell into a coma.
Those surrounding him in his final moments said his death was discreet, happened quickly and that he did not suffer.

Gene Hackman's death 'was preventable had the right measures been taken'

The deaths of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa may have been preventable if they had taken better steps to rid an infestation in their home. The Oscar winner and his wife died in their Santa Fe home in February, by what were at first mysterious causes. Investigators later determined Hackman died a week after his wife from severe heart disease, as well as complications from Alzheimer's disease. Arakawa died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), a disease spread through rodent droppings . A health report found that dead rodents were scattered across their property , likely leading to her illness and eventual death. The source said: 'It's terribly tragic because it shows that they didn't go far enough in combating it. It also means their deaths probably were preventable had the right measures been taken.' While there weren't dead rats found in the main building, they were found in eight of the outposts on the property. The health assessment called the area a "breeding ground' for HPS. Dead rodents were found on the property (Image: AP) Two vehicles on the property also showed signs of rodent activity. Rodent feces were discovered in three garages, two casitas, and three sheds on their land. One live rodent, one dead rodent, and a rodent nest were found in three of the detached garages. HPS symptoms include flu-like illness, headaches, dizziness and severe respiratory distress. Gene's wife reached out to a medical concierge on February 12, a day prior to her confirmed death. Arkawa was Hackman's primary caregiver in his advanced state of Alzheimer's. Investigators determined he was likely unable to comprehend her death due to his cognitive condition, which is why he didn't call for help. His heart pills were found scattered on the county, and an autopsy showed he had no food in his stomach. They were finally laid to rest two months after their death. His roles included playing the arch nemesis Lex Luthor in the Superman movies and a coach finding redemption in the sentimental favorite Hoosiers. He was a five-time Oscar nominee who won best actor in a leading role for The French Connection in 1972 and best actor in a supporting role for Unforgiven two decades later. He retired in the early 2000s and lived a quiet life in New Mexico. Betsy was born in Hawaii in December 1959 and grew up in Honolulu. She studied piano and, as an 11-year-old sixth grader, performed in youth concerts in front of thousands of students at the Honolulu International Center Concert Hall, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported in 1971. RFK Jr makes wild claim over teenage boys' testosterone and even Jesse Watters is baffled

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr has made some outlandish claims since assuming office earlier this year, including claiming that autism can be cured and describing a recent outbreak of measles among unvaccinated people as "not unusual." Now Kennedy has taken up his latest health crusade, this time involving teenage boys' testosterone. During an appearance on Fox News' Jesse Watters Primetime on Tuesday, Kennedy claimed the testosterone levels in teenage boys have dropped significantly over the last several decades. "A teenager today, an American teenager today has less testosterone than a 68-year-old man," Kennedy said, prompting Watters to grin and laugh at the assertion. "Sperm counts are down 50%." Despite Watters's reaction, Kennedy's claims are not completely unfounded, although he may be off about the exact figures. While research on this specific subject is limited, one study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism suggested testosterone levels in men have been dropping by 1% every year since 1980. This is nowhere near the 50% figure RFK Jr is claiming. While the causes of this potential drop in testosterone levels have yet to be identified, it's been long understood that testosterone levels naturally decrease as a man ages. However, a study published in the Urology Times Journal found similar results, noting that testosterone levels have dropped among young adult males from 1996 to 2020. The study notes that a number of causes could be responsible for this drop, including obesity and a lack of physical activity. Despite these studies, RFK did not mention them during his interview with Watters, presenting them as if they were his opinion rather than an empirical fact. Kennedy has made a number of specious medical claims since taking office, despite holding no medical degree of any kind. These assertions include claiming that autism is a "disease" that can seemingly be cured, despite most mental health and medical professionals categorizing autism spectrum disorder as a developmental disorder. There are no blood or biological tests for autism; it is diagnosed by making judgments about a child's behavior. Research has looked at a variety of other possible explanations, including genetics, the age of the father, the weight of the mother and chemicals in the environment. (Image: Anadolu via Getty Images) Prior to his rise to health secretary, Kennedy joined anti-vaccine advocates in claiming childhood vaccines are responsible for autism, but studies by the CDC and others have ruled that out. A fraudulent single study that claimed a link between the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine was later retracted by the journal that published it. Kennedy recently announced a major study into the cause of autism and told an April 10 Cabinet meeting: 'By September we will know what has caused the autism epidemic and we'll be able to eliminate those exposures.' But last week, he softened that to having 'some of the answers by September.'
