Man jailed for trafficking exploited sex worker
Zhaoqian Yu, of Derryfield Court in Oldbury, Birmingham, appeared at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday where he was jailed for five years and 10 months.
The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to human trafficking, controlling prostitution for gain, conspiracy to import cannabis, and transferring criminal property.
DC Katie Andrews from the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) said the further Yu was investigated, the more crimes they uncovered.

The investigation into Yu was first launched back in 2019, when SWROCU uncovered a money laundering network in Gloucester which he had links to.
Following further leads, they discovered Yu was involved in controlling prostitutes at a premises in Birmingham.
As part of his role running the brothel, he trafficked a sex worker from London to Birmingham while fully aware the woman was being exploited.
Between August 2018 and June 2019, Yu transferred £347,000 in cash to individuals living and working at a Chinese restaurant in Gloucester who were operating an underground banking service.
Yu was fully aware this money was the proceeds of crime, police said.
Between December 2018 and October 2021, Yu also conspired with others to illegally import 119 kilos of cannabis.
He was found to have personally arranged for 34 kilos of the class B drug to come into the UK, with the intention of passing it on to others.
DC Andrews said: "This has been an extremely complex case with a significant amount of material needing to be translated and reviewed.
"The further we looked into Mr Yu the more it led us down different avenues of investigation and unveiled an array of criminal activity.
"We will continue to pursue his co-conspirators and associates to ensure justice is served and our communities are protected from those who seek to exploit others and supply illegal drugs for financial gain."

Police launch urgent hunt for woman missing from seaside town
A mother is still missing more than a day after vanishing from a Cornish seaside town as her heartbroken family issue a desperate plea for her to come home. Claire Bennett, 49, was last seen leaving Truro railway station at 3.24pm on Monday before disappearing, according to Devon and Cornwall Police. Ms Bennett, from St Austell, is described as a blonde white female, around 5ft 10ins and of slim build. She was last seen wearing a white top, black cardigan and blue jeans. Her daughter told PlymouthLive: 'Mum, if you read this please come home. We aren't mad at you and we all bloody love you! 'You win at hide and seek. Just even send me a message to tell me you're OK. We can get through this. I promise. I love you.' Her daughter also claimed that items belonging to Claire had been found. She added: 'We found a bag we believe to be hers at the park by the viaduct in Truro. 'We were asked not to continue looking on foot for her due to the police dogs and scents etc.' A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: 'Searches and enquiries are ongoing, but we are appealing for anyone who has seen Claire or knows where she is to contact us. 'Anyone who sees Claire or knows of her whereabouts is asked to contact police on 999 quoting log 610 of 11 August.'

Man pleads guilty to murdering his 73-year-old father
A 30-year-old man has admitted to murdering his 73-year-old father on the day his trial was due to begin. Christopher Monro pleaded guilty to killing Peter Monro, who died following an incident in Bath, Somerset, on February 11. A carer found the elderly man with knife wounds in a bedroom shortly after noon. He was declared dead shortly after. Monro had been due to stand trial at Bristol Crown Court on Monday but changed his plea to guilty. He was remanded into custody ahead of sentencing on November 7. Avon and Somerset Police said the emergency services were called to the property in Kelston View following the killing . Detectives discovered Monro had been staying with his father the weekend before, with several people reporting having heard an argument two days previously. Officers traced Monro's movements and he was subsequently arrested at his home address in Oxford. In a statement issued by police following the guilty plea, Mr Monro's family said: "Peter Monro was an incredibly eccentric, funny, intelligent and unique man. "He refused to be anything other than himself. A man of his own time. No-one else's. "His love of literature carried him through life, and his sharp mind was impossible to beat." They added: "This has been an extremely challenging time for Peter's loved ones. "We hope he is now with the swallows and thank Avon and Somerset Police for their professionalism and support through all of this. "While life will never be the same again for Peter's family, we can now move forward with greater dignity and a deeper understanding of the need for compassion and faith." Detective Inspector Neil Meade, who led the investigation, said: "The past six months have been incredibly painful time for Peter's family and their touching tribute to him is an indication of how loved he was. "This guilty plea comes following a comprehensive police investigation and we're grateful to Peter's family for their support while that process took place, and the kind words they have said publicly. "We also wish to thank those people who provided us with information in the early hours of our investigation that linked Christopher Monro to this crime. "That crucial detail enabled us to work quickly and effectively with our counterparts at Thames Valley Police to ensure Monro was apprehended at the earliest opportunity."

Two men who sprayed Orthodox Jewish people with water pistol will not face court action
Two men who sprayed water at traditionally dressed Jews will not face court action. A video of the incident, in which a water pistol was sprayed at passers-by from a car and shared widely online, prompted an investigation by Greater Manchester Police. The footage, which was reposted extensively with traditional Jewish music in the background, shows two men laughing and joking while sat in a vehicle and targeting visibly Orthodox Jewish children. Officers also seized a vehicle which is believed to be the one seen in the footage, along with a water pistol suspected to have been used.
