Cricket South Africa's (CSA) head of national teams, Enoch Nkwe, clarified on Tuesday – in an exclusive interview with Independent Media – that South Africa's senior national cricket team's Test players will depart India from 26 May to join preparations for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Lungi Ngidi (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Wiaan Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch (both Mumbai Indians) are the eight Test players who returned to the IPL after the tournament was suspended last week due to geopolitical instability in the region.
The IPL is set to restart on Saturday following the interruption, with the South African players returning to the subcontinent this week to rejoin their respective franchises. Originally scheduled to conclude on May 25, the tournament will now host its final on June 3.
The influence of the BCCI and the IPL has raised concerns that the South African contingent may not be released until the tournament's new end date. Should this scenario unfold, it would disrupt the Proteas' preparations for their four-day warm-up fixture against Zimbabwe, which is set to begin on the same day as the IPL final.
Nkwe, however, reiterated that, as things currently stand, the players will return on 26 May as originally planned, allowing coach Shukri Conrad's team sufficient preparation time for the WTC final.
The 42-year-old added that discussions are ongoing between CSA's CEO, Pholetsi Moseki, the BCCI, and the IPL regarding South Africa's players.

'Nothing has changed, as far as I'm concerned. As we speak, the matter is sitting with the big bosses – between CSA and the BCCI. I know the CEO has been engaging with the IPL as well,' Nkwe said.
'We haven't moved from the original schedule. We are planning accordingly in terms of the final.
'We need days to prepare the guys for the Zimbabwe game, which is the warm-up match, because after that we don't have much time before the final begins.'
With most of the Proteas' Test players having last played red-ball cricket during the New Year's Test against Pakistan at Newlands, the squad requires as much preparation time as possible.
The World Test Championship final is scheduled to take place from 11 to 15 June at Lord's.

'He shots or takes defender on': Chiefs legend praise Pirates star
Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has hailed Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota following his impressive breakout season. The 20-year-old forward scored seven goals and added five assists in 39 matches across all competitions last season. His form has earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up earlier this month where he featured against Mozambique. Khumalo had praised Nkota's decision making especially when he is attacking with the ball. The Chiefs legend felt the Pirates winger was positive whenever he had to ball and would either shot or take on a defender. 'Listen. This boy, and every ball that he gets, it's whether he takes a shot or he takes a defender on,' Khumalo said, as per KickOff . 'He (Nkota) has never taken the ball backwards; he has never played anything backwards,' he added. 'He is always positive. His game is not negative. In every touch that he had, he was creating a final pass, taking on a player, or taking a shot.' The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder has also been impressed with another Orlando Pirates youngster. Khumalo has been a big fan of Relebohile Mofokeng since he made his debut for the Buccaneers two years ago. Nkota and Mofokeng have been a joy to watch for Pirates on the wings under Jose Riveiro. With Nkota already established, it remains to be seen how he will improve as a player next season. Junior Springboks face tough challenge in World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy
The Junior Springboks have unveiled a powerful 30-man squad for the 2025 World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Italy, with five returning players and several fresh faces ready to showcase South Africa's rugby depth on the world stage. Image: BackpagePix The Junior Springboks are aware of their pool of death for the World Rugby U20 Championship and that it will take a collective effort to reach the tournament's playoffs. Facing Australia, defending champions England and Scotland in Italy, they will have to win all their games to ensure that they make it out of the group stages to give them the best chance in the knockouts. However, they have experience from playing Australia, New Zealand and Argentina recently in the Rugby Championship on home soil and they feel they are way more prepared for the challenge after a strong build-up to the competition. The Junior Springboks will start the #WorldRugbyU20s campaign on Sunday vs Australia in Italy. Captain Riley Norton discusses expectations and dealing with pressure to bring a third title to SA after the #Springboks and Blitzboks' trophy wins — Leighton Koopman (@Leighton_K) June 22, 2025 Video Player is loading. With South Africa holding the Rugby World Cup and World Rugby SVNS title, there could be additional pressure on the Junior Boks to perform and bring a third title to underscore SA's dominance on the international scene. According to captain Riley Norton, they don't view it as additional pressure to win but will take inspiration from the success of the senior South African sides when they start the tournament in Turin. Kevin Foote on the #JuniorBoks' preparations: 'The players have been in great spirits despite the hard push' - more here: ✅#JourneyToGreatness — SA Junior Rugby (@SAJuniorRugby) June 18, 2025 'We are going there to express ourselves, so I don't think the pressure is on us,' Norton said. 'The team is well prepared, and we are backing ourselves and the gameplan. We are in an unbelievable position to play rugby and to inspire the next generation. That pressure is not something we look at. "We know South Africans love winning and that will always be on your shoulders (if you represent the country), but we just want to go out there and do what we have trained and enjoy the moment. 'When we all enjoy it and love our rugby, that is when we play our best.'

Springbok Sevens ‘A' side crowned champions at Rugby Africa tournament
Sebastiaan Jobb (with ball) helped lead the Springbok Sevens 'A' squad to glory at the Rugby Africa Sevens tournament in Mauritius at the weekend. The Springbok Sevens 'A' side beat Madagascar 26-12 in the final of the Rugby Africa Sevens at the Labourdonnais Sports Club in Mauritius on Sunday afternoon to be crowned continental kings. The South Africans had enjoyed a tentative start to the tournament, with pool victories over Nigeria, Zambia and Burkina Faso on Saturday's first day. But they grew into the competition with every passing match, also accounting for last year's bogey team, Uganda on Sunday morning. They booked their place in Sunday's decider with a hard-fought 19-12 win over Zimbabwe's Cheetahs in the first semi-final, courtesy of tries from co-captains Mfundo Ndhlovu and Sebastiaan Jobb. That match was an extremely physical encounter that descended into an arm wrestle in the second half but the Springbok Sevens 'A' side – a blend of youth and experience – held their nerve, to prevail. The exciting Madagascar side had beaten Kenya in their semi-final to book their place in the decider. Ndhlovu had been a potent attacking weapon for the South Africans over the weekend, and was arguably the player of the tournament for Phillip Snyman's side. His class again shone through in the final, as did Jobb's and Ricardo Duartee's, with 'Tricky Ricky' often living up to his name in igniting South African attacks and dictating play.
