ROC the Riverway improvements complete in Aqueduct District in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Tuesday, a central piece of the ROC the Riverway initiative is complete in downtown Rochester, as street improvements are now done in the Aqueduct District.
Roads and walkways, lighting, and signs have been upgraded on Aqueduct Street, Graves Street, and the surrounding areas.
Some of the bricks in Aqueduct Park had been untouched for a hundred years, according to city officials on-site.
Millions of dollars awarded to projects in Webster, Macedon
Aqueduct Park and the district are across the river from the Convention Center and the Riverside Hotel, and right behind Constellation Brands, so this area is sandwiched between hundreds of millions of dollars in city, state, and private funds.
This new area will better connect the quadrants of the City, with better access to small businesses, and more.
Two Rochester optics leader join forces, to grow operations
'What we are consistently and regularly doing, not just in downtown but across the City, is filling in the gaps,' said City Councilman Michael Patterson. 'Those years, decades, of disinvestment, destruction, tearing down and creating empty spaces, of empty sidewalks, are coming to an end.'

Black Greek groups honored for service and mentorship in Rochester
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Friday, U-Prep Charter School hosted a special luncheon honoring the presidents and immediate past presidents at Divine Nine and National Pen-Hellenic Council Organizations. University Preparatory is a charter school for young men and the luncheon recognizes Black Greek leadership in fraternities and sororities, as well as their service and commitment. 'All of the organizations have components of mentorship, service and really just uplifting the community of Rochester and as you all know, we need that,' U-Prep Chief Operations & Chief Finance Officer Dr. Cam Lewis said. 'So, we're all doing the same work, it's not a competition, it's really about doing the work of your chapter and working together to do some bigger productions.' We do a lot of work and often we do the work and you don't really think about what you're doing because you're just here to serve the community,' Kimberly Brown said. 'So, to know that people notice and that it's not just thankless work, it is very encouraging and motivating.' Attendees were honored with a commemorative book, a chef-prepared brunch and special gifts to show appreciation. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Now open in Rochester: Starlight Cafe & Convenience
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Now open in Rochester's South Wedge: Starlight. The convenience store and deli is at the former Highland Market, 830 South Ave. That business closed in August. Starlight is owned and operated by Sobab Bhatti, who owns four other convenience stores in the Rochester area. The inside has seen a refresh, and like Highland, Starlight kept the deli offerings: complete with breakfast sandwiches, cold subs, and their specialty: The Roc Chopped Cheese. It has the same goods as a loaded cheeseburger on a hoagie-style bun, made with cocoa bread. Bhatti opened here three weeks ago, as he says the wedge needed another convenience option. 'If you look around, there's not much around here,' he said. 'So there was an opportunity there, and serving the community at the same time, we're trying our best to listen to what people have to say, any suggestions… That's the goal, to be part of the community, and grow with the community together.' Bhatti added that as the business grows, they may bring in guest chefs cooking up their own cuisine. Starlight is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
