Women's fast-fashion retailer Groupe Dynamite Inc. raised prices by 9% over the past year and plans to increase them at twice the rate of inflation for the foreseeable future, its chief executive officer said. 'If you extrapolate, the cost of our goods with or without tariffs is really a negligible piece of the average unit,' CEO Andrew Lutfy said in an interview.

Canada Considers ‘Buy Canadian' Policy for Steel, Aluminum

OTTAWA–Canadian officials are considering requirements that would compel government-funded infrastructure projects and defense-procurement agreements to use domestically made steel and aluminum, according to Industry Minister Melanie Joly. Joly said Tuesday this policy would help spur longer-term demand for Canadian steel and aluminum producers, which now face a squeeze with the U.S. levying a 50% tariff on the imported metals. She added that the government would use the tools available to protect jobs in the metals industry.

Canada announces new Ukraine military aid, Russia sanctions

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday announced Can$2 billion ($1.47bn) of military support, including drones and helicopters for Ukraine as he hosted President Volodymyr Zelensky at a G7 summit. Carney vowed "total solidarity with Ukraine" as he also unveiled further sanctions on Russia in an effort to impose "maximum pressure" on President Vladimir Putin over the war. The new sanctions target 77 people and 39 entities, including three financial entities, a major oil and gas company and quantum computing researchers, as well as more than 200 vessels in Russia's so-called shadow fleet. Security analysts say the fleet of aging vessels is used by Russia to circumvent international sanctions that ban it from selling oil. Quantum technologies, according to Ottawa, "can have various dual-use military applications and be leveraged by the Kremlin to bolster its military." Canada's foreign ministry called this its "biggest-ever package of vessel- and trade-related sanctions" imposed on Russia. The measures bring the total number of Russian nationals and entities sanctioned by Canada to more than 2 400.
