SAPS offers rewards for info on three Cape Town murder cases

CAPE TOWN - The South African Police Service is offering a number of monetary rewards, in at least three cases that detectives are struggling to crack in Cape Town.One relates to the murder of a principal, another pertains to the killing of a tourist and the latest involves the murder of a well-known taxi boss.The rewards range from R50,000 to R100,000.Following the shooting of CATA Regional Taxi Association executive, Mongi Titi, at the Nyanga rank two weeks ago, this is what the police's Malcolm Pojie has been able to confirm."The investigation has not delivered any arrests yet and police have now indicated anyone with information that helps track down the killers could earn a reward of up to R50,000."Older cases are also still offering rewards.Another R50,000 reward is on offer in connection with the shooting of a principal in Kraaifontein in January.The Ekuthuleni Primary School headmaster was shot dead in his car outside the school premises, while his wife was wounded in the arm.An even bigger reward is being offered for information about the murder of a British doctor in Nyanga in August 2023.The man and his family were en route to the airport when their GPS re-directed them through Nyanga, because the N2 was blocked due to a taxi strike.
An unknown man approached their vehicle and shot him in the head.

Motswenyane said the investigation has now entered a crucial phase. 'The involvement of any SAPS member in criminal acts will not be tolerated. Culprits will be held accountable – even if they are within our own ranks,' Motswenyane said. The SAPS continues to appeal for public assistance. JOHANNESBURG - A foreign national found in possession of drugs worth over R70,000 is expected to appear in the Lephalale Magistrate's Court in Limpopo on Monday. The suspect was arrested on Friday during an intelligence-driven operation led by the K9 unit and tracking teams. Police spokesperson Malasela Ledwaba says the drugs were found at the suspect's home. "During the search at the suspects residence, police seized cat and crystal meth drugs. The suspect is expected to appear before Lephalale Magistrate's Court on Monday, 9th June 2025."

Two ex-councillors from Walter Sisulu Municipality have been sentenced for defrauding a woman of R150,000 in a fake RDP housing scam. Both have been ordered to repay R80,000 by August 2025. Image: Nokuthula Mbatha/Independent Newspapers Two former councillors of the Walter Sisulu Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape have been found guilty of defrauding a woman of over R150,000 in a bogus Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) housing deal. Mokhoabane Spetla Moahlodi, 63, and Mxolisi Mdumisa,44, were arrested in 2018 by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks). The two had promised the victim an RDP house in April 2017 in exchange for payment, which she duly deposited into their account. However, the promised house was never delivered. After several court appearances, the pair were sentenced to five years' imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years on the condition that they repay R80,000. Each was ordered to repay R40,000 immediately, with the remaining balance to be settled by August 6, 2025. Video Player is loading.
