MCMC, PDRM Reaffirm Commitment To Combat Online Child Sexual Exploitation
They said in a joint statement today that a total of 1,501 offensive posts involving children were identified up to June 15, 2025, with 94 per cent of them successfully taken down as a result of cooperation with digital platform providers and following public complaints.
They added that through special operations, such as "Op Pedo', a total of 13 individuals were arrested and more than 40,000 child sexual abuse material (CSAM) seized from several states.
According to the statement, the dissemination, storage or commercialisation of child sexual exploitation content is an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), which provides for a fine of up to RM1 million, five years' imprisonment or both.
At the same time, the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 provides for legal action to be taken against any party who produces, disseminates, buys, sells, shares or possesses such related materials.
As a preventive measure, the MCMC has also intensified its Safe Internet Campaign (KIS), which targets students, parents and the community, including an emphasis on the prohibition on the use of social media accounts by children aged below 13.
The MCMC and PDRM urged all parties, including parents, educators and internet users, to cooperate in efforts to curb this crime.

Op Sohor: Smuggling Activities Maybe Orchestrated By Enforcement Personnel
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded statements from 10 individuals and 14 companies believed to be linked to a syndicate involved in the smuggling of tobacco, cigarettes and cigars. The activities of the syndicate concerned are estimated to have caused losses of more than RM250 million in national revenue between 2020 to 2024. According to a MACC source, the syndicate is believed to have used false declaration tactics during the import process by changing customs codes or item descriptions, with the smuggled cigarettes and cigars then stored in private warehouses before being distributed to the market. "Based on initial investigations, this smuggling activity is likely to have been orchestrated by a handful of enforcement officers who provided easy access to smuggle the goods at the country's entry points in addition to protecting the warehouse operations and not taking enforcement action," said the source The source said payments to the involved enforcement personnel are believed to be made via cash or through middlemen to obscure the financial trail. "What is worrying is that this syndicate is also believed to have direct link to a group of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) officers who were arrested in Op Sohor last Aug 14, indicating the existence of a wider protection network," he said. Last Tuesday, the MACC Special Operations Division, with strategic cooperation involving the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), raided several premises in the Klang Valley and Johor under Op Sikaro to combat tobacco, cigarette and cigar smuggling activities. The investigation is now focused on offences under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. Following the operation, MACC has frozen several private bank accounts and company accounts involving approximately RM218 million and is investigating to trace other assets obtained through money laundering activities by those involved.

Govt lodges reports over false Tabung Haji claims
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has lodged reports with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police over videos spreading false narratives about Tabung Haji and urging Muslims to withdraw their deposits. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Naim Mokhtar said the matter had been referred to the authorities for a fair investigation. "I am aware that several videos are circulating which could have an impact, including calls for depositors to withdraw their savings from Tabung Haji. "Such incitement does nothing to support our efforts to safeguard the integrity of Tabung Haji. "The government is monitoring the matter closely and action has been taken, including lodging police reports and filing complaints with the MCMC against videos deemed to be inciteful," he said during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat. He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) regarding claims circulating in WhatsApp groups alleging that Tabung Haji is being managed by the Chinese, which he said were part of attempts to construct malicious narratives and false accusations. Mohd Naim added that the ministry, together with Tabung Haji and related agencies such as TV AlHijrah and IKIM, would continue to conduct awareness campaigns to clarify issues concerning the institution. "We hope that everyone will cooperate in defending the integrity of Tabung Haji," he said.

In a brief statement, Shahlan Jufri said the photograph was taken in June this year and has no connection whatsoever with the death and Zara Qairina, and the latter's mother Noraidah Lamat. 'The attempt by certain parties to link it is a malicious slander aimed at misleading the public. 'I stress that my commitment lies solely with seeking justice for Zara,' he said in a Facebook post last night, which has seen been made private.
