Two of the athletes who finished in front of him were also in the Masters 40-45 category so this meant that Gary was awarded the bronze medal for the British Championships.
Race report writer Geoff Watkin said: "I have been aware of Gary's ability to run extreme distances for some time, so we worked together to plan to run in this championship race.

Wolves sign Verona's Jackson Tchatchoua on five-year deal
Wolverhampton Wanderers have completed the signing of full-back Jackson Tchatchoua from Hellas Verona. Tchatchoua has signed a five-year deal at Molineux with a club option for a sixth season. The Belgium-born Cameroon international is Wolves' fourth signing of the summer after Spanish forward Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo, Colombia international Jhon Arias from Fluminense and Norwegian wing-back David Moller Wolfe from AZ Alkmaar. Advertisement Tchatchoua, 23, can play as a traditional full-back or a wing-back, and will add depth to Vitor Pereira's squad on both sides of the pitch. He made 36 appearances for Verona in the Serie A last season, scoring twice and registering three assists, primarily on the right flank. Tchatchoua joined Verona on an initial season-long loan from Belgian club Charleroi in summer 2023 before the Italian club exercised their option to make the move permanent the following summer. Adding pace to the pack! ⚡️ Welcome, Jackson Tchatchoua! 🇨🇲✍️ — Wolves (@Wolves) August 19, 2025 Wolves are also targeting a defensive midfield and No 10 before the close of the transfer window on September 1. Speaking ahead of their opening-day defeat to Manchester City, Pereira said: 'All managers, they always want more and more. 'Here in our club we are working to get the players that we need. 'They know that we need more — in my opinion, at least three players. 'They (the club) know the positions, they know the profiles and I will wait for the end of the market to see if it's possible.' Leeds close to signing AC Milan winger Noah Okafor
Leeds United are closing in on a deal to sign Noah Okafor (Fabrizio Romano). An agreement is almost done to take the Swiss striker to Elland Road. Leeds still have final details to sort with AC Milan in the next 12-24 hours, but the transfer guru believes a deal will go through if all goes to plan. The West Yorkshire outfit is looking for attacking reinforcement. Manager Daniel Farke is keen to bolster his options ahead of a long and gruelling campaign, where he will need all hands on deck. The Whites need a top-calibre option to call upon if Wilfried Gnonto suffers an injury, fatigues, or loses form. Leeds turned to Okafor, who started last season at AC Milan but ended up winning the Scudetto with Napoli after joining on loan, even though he only made four appearances. Okafor's time in Milan has been underwhelming. He managed only seven goals and five assists in 54 appearances for the Rossoneri. However, he has proven to be a potent weapon off the bench. His 5.71 progressive carries and 3.42 successful take-ons per 90 are also remarkable numbers. He can help Leeds avoid relegation this term. Ceteris paribus, Leeds will add Okafor to their attacking arsenal, which includes summer signings Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Leeds took a big step towards their goal of survival with a 1-0 opening day victory over Everton at Elland Road. The home side dominated for long spells and carved out the better chances, but it still took a late penalty to secure victory on their Premier League return. Farke admitted his nerves when debutant Nmecha stepped up, but the substitute held his composure to convert the decisive spot-kick in the 84th minute. The penalty came controversially, awarded against James Tarkowski after Anton Stach's shot struck the defender's arm. Tarkowski's arms appeared to be tucked by his side, but the referee judged he had leaned into the ball. Everton are furious, and Leeds are grateful for the decision that delivered their first three points of the season.

Crystal Palace interested in signing Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan
Crystal Palace are monitoring Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan as the Eagles look to strengthen their attack before transfer deadline day (Ben Jacobs). Palace are weighing up a season-long loan move for the 29-year-old, who has endured a frustrating spell at Wolves. Selhurst Park can be an escape route for 'The Bull'. The Palace target initially joined Wolves from RB Leipzig on loan in 2021 before making the switch permanent a year later. After hitting 12 Premier League goals in 2023/24, injuries disrupted his progress last season, restricting Hwang to just two goals in 21 appearances. He started only five of those games, with the arrival of Jorgen Strand Larsen pushing him down the pecking order. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Hwang wants regular football, which he could get under Palace manager Oliver Glasner. A loan to Selhurst Park would offer him more minutes. He managed just nine minutes in Wolves' defeat to Manchester City. Although there has been reported interest from France and the Championship, Hwang wants to remain in the Premier League, and Palace could be his next stomping ground. His pace and versatility across the forward line would be a valuable asset to Palace, who are short of attacking options. Eddie Nketiah's pre-season injury left Jean-Philippe Mateta as the only senior striker. Palace are also pursuing Leicester's Bilal El Khannouss and Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, but their business has been slow. So far, only Borna Sosa and Walter Benitez have arrived, both largely seen as depth signings. Palace lost respected transfer chief Dougie Freedman, who left for Saudi Arabia in March. That may explain the sluggishness of their window. However, Palace have found their replacement for Freedman. Former Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs is in talks to join Palace after leaving the Molineux Stadium earlier this year. His arrival could prove pivotal in securing Hwang's signature and help ramp up transfer activity for the FA Cup and Community Shield winners.
