DHS turns tables on Elizabeth Warren after calling for Noem to resign: 'Trying to revise history'

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., joined the chorus of Democrats criticizing Department of Homeland Security Kristi Noem after Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., was stopped by Secret Service agents after interrupting a DHS press conference in Los Angeles on Thursday. "It's time for Republican Senators to speak up. We need an independent investigation of this," Warren said on MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes" on Thursday night. "It is also time for Kristi Noem to resign. She needs to resign," she added. Kristi Noem Suspects 'Completely Inappropriate' Democratic Senator 'Wanted The Scene' Padilla was briefly placed in handcuffs and kicked out of the room by the Secret Service after he entered the press conference and attempted to ask the secretary a question in the middle of her remarks. He identified himself by name as a senator, but he was not wearing a security pin during the incident, according to the FBI. "Everything is on camera—Warren is trying to revise history on Senator Padilla's embarrassing conduct, but Americans can see with their own eyes," Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated. "There's no excuse for busting into a press conference and interrupting it. Had Senator Padilla asked for a meeting, Secretary Noem would have happily obliged, which she graciously did for 15 minutes after the press conference." The Democrat and Noem did end up having a brief meeting where they exchanged phone numbers. Fox News reported that Noem described the meeting as "cordial and beneficial," and Padilla's office said it was "civil." The press conference addressed the civil unrest in the Los Angeles area as Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues to arrest illegal immigrants. Schiff Demands Noem's Resignation After Fellow Senator Forcibly Removed From Briefing "The Senator met with Secretary Noem this afternoon. He raised concerns with the deployment of military forces and the needless escalation over the last week, among other issues. And he voiced his frustration with the continued lack of response from this administration," Edgar D. Rodríguez, Deputy Communications Director for Padilla, posted to X. "It was a civil, brief meeting, but the Secretary did not provide any meaningful answers. The Senator was simply trying to do his job and seek answers for the people he represents in California," he added. Other Democrats, like California Sen. Adam Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell, have called on Noem to step down. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski condemned how the incident was handled, whereas others, like sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, slammed the incident on his show, hypothetically asking Padilla, "You couldn't wait?"Original article source: DHS turns tables on Elizabeth Warren after calling for Noem to resign: 'Trying to revise history'

Military parade set for Saturday

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Washington, D.C. is gearing up for one of the largest military parades in recent history as the U.S. Army marks its 250th anniversary this Saturday. The celebration will feature thousands of troops, tanks rolling through the streets, and dramatic aircraft flyovers above the National Mall. 'Being part of the Army's 250th is an amazing opportunity especially to represent the First Infantry Division,' said Major Brandt Murphy, who will be among the soldiers marching down Constitution Avenue. Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Husted added: 'You don't see tanks drive down the streets in D.C., so that in itself is going to be very, very cool.' Preparations are underway not only for the parade, but also for a massive security operation. Fencing and security checkpoints now line the National Mall as the Secret Service and local authorities brace for large crowds and a potential visit from former President Donald Trump. 'I'm from Dallas, Texas,' said Jaslyn Jackson, one of many spectators arriving in D.C. ahead of the parade. 'I just want to see how it turns out — the crowds, the energy, and who shows up.' Mary Walker, a Capitol Hill resident, says her family is especially excited, 'We've got a two-year-old boy who's very excited to see tanks and helicopters and celebrate the Army.' Not everyone is thrilled with the military display. Critics have raised concerns about the optics of tanks in the capital, and the cost. 'I think that's pretty ominous, right?' said Rachael Harvender, visiting from Vermont. 'It's not something we're used to on American turf, so it puts a little bit of a spooky feel over it.' Despite the criticism and a projected price tag in the tens of millions of dollars, organizers insist the celebration is a once-in-a-generation moment to honor the Army's legacy. Large security presence expected to secure Trump's military parade, festival

Washington, D.C., is preparing for a large security presence ahead of the Army's 250th anniversary parade. Thousands of law enforcement officers from across the country will arrive in Washington to assist in security, and land, air and water assets are deployed in an effort to secure the event, which coincides with President Donald Trump's 79th birthday. "Since April 23, we've been working diligently, around the clock, to get this plan ready," Matt McCool, the special agent in charge of the Secret Service's Washington Field Office, told ABC News, noting that officials typically have six months to a year to prepare for large-scale special security events. "This is a comprehensive plan," he said. MORE: Democrats slam military parade as Trump's multimillion-dollar 'birthday party' The Secret Service has had five National Special Security Events, or NSSEs, in the past six months. "All threats are mitigated," he said. "There will be no line-of-sight issues when it comes to the president. Once you hit the Secret Service perimeter, it will be the most secure place on the planet." The U.S. Coast Guard, which is manning the waterways, told ABC News it is supporting throughout the day with security. "We do these events as part of our mission set. We partner with a lot of agencies anywhere where there is a security or safety function," Coast Guard Cmdr. Ryan Gomez said. The Secret Service and local officials have said they are expecting about nine small protests in Washington, though "No Kings Day" protests will occur nationwide, with the largest expected to be in Philadelphia. Still, McCool said "everything has been mitigated" in preparing for the event. "If you attempt to enter an area you aren't supposed to be in or attempt to commit violence, you will go to jail and you will be prosecuted," he said when asked if he had a message to those who want to disrupt the event. MORE: What to know about 'No Kings Day' protests across US to counter Trump's military parade He said that as a matter of policy, officials can't discuss the costs of securing an event like this, though he noted that doing so "is not cheap." Both McCool and U.S. Park Police Chief Jessica Taylor told ABC News touted the partnerships around the Washington metropolitan area that will help secure the parade and festival on the National Mall. "Something I say often is, in Washington, D.C., nothing gets done without partnership," Taylor said. "In D.C. specifically, with law enforcement, we rely heavily on one another. Nothing gets done without partnerships." Large security presence expected to secure Trump's military parade, festival originally appeared on
