Italiano 'happy' to extend Bologna contract - World

Al-Ahram Weekly4 days ago

Vincenzo Italiano said he was "happy to continue" at Bologna after the Italian Cup winners announced on Thursday they had extended the coach's contract until June 2027
Italiano joined Bologna last summer after three seasons with Fiorentina, leading them to the first trophy since 1974 when they beat AC Milan 1-0 to win the Italian Cup.
"I am happy to continue on this journey," said Italiano.
"We have a lot of exciting competitions to take part in and objectives still to achieve together. See you in July, more ready than ever!"
Bologna finished ninth in Serie A but their Italian Cup triumph means they head directly into next season's Europa League league stage.
"We are very happy to extend our relationship with Vincenzo Italiano," said club director Claudio Fenici.
"As we have said on several occasions, this has always been our intention and we are delighted to take on new challenges next season."
While Bologna have opted for stability, other Serie A clubs are set for a turbulent off-season, with coaching changes expected at AC Milan, Juventus, Roma and Lazio.
Even reigning champions Napoli could be affected with the coach Antonio Conte being targeted by Juventus.

Ahly sign Arab Contractors goalkeeper Mohamed Seha - Egyptian Football

Ahly announced on Monday signing Arab Contractors goalkeeper Mohamed Seha on a five-year contract starting from next season. The 24-year-old Seha would be a replacement for Ahly's goalkeeper Hamza Alaa after departing the club this summer. 'It is a different feeling as Ahly is the biggest club in Africa and I hope to prove myself here,' Seha said in a video posted on Ahly's official website. 'I felt a warm reception here from everyone. I received many offers but I didn't hesitate to accept Ahly offer. It was my dream since I was a child to be Ahly player,' he added. Seha became Ahly's third summer signing as the club had already signed winger Mahmoud Trezeguet from Qatar's Al-Rayyan and defensive midfielder Hamdy Fathy from Qatar's Al-Wakrah. Seha, who was a member of Egypt's U-23 squad at the Paris Olympics last year, spent last season playing on loan for the league Haras El-Hodoud, making 14 league appearances. Ahly recently ended the season on a high note, winning their 45th Egyptian Premier League title. The team is currently preparing for the anticipated FIFA Club World Cup that will kick off on 15 June. Tennis: Sabalenka powers into Roland Garros quarter-finals - Omni sports

World number one Aryna Sabalenka reached her 10th consecutive Grand Slam quarter-final on Sunday with a straight-sets win over Amanda Anisimova in the French Open fourth round. The Belarusian battled through a tight opening set against the American 16th seed and then needed eight match points to clinch a 7-5, 6-3 victory on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Sabalenka, who was the pre-tournament favourite, will face Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen in the last eight after the Chinese star edged past Liudmila Samsonova. Zheng beat Sabalenka for the first time in their seven meetings in the Italian Open quarter-finals in the build-up to Roland Garros. Anisimova holds a 5-3 winning record over Sabalenka but has now lost their last two matches. The 23-year-old, a French Open semi-finalist in 2019, won her maiden WTA 1000 title in Doha earlier this season. She pushed Sabalenka in the first set, breaking the top seed when she was serving to clinch the opener. But two missed break points in the 11th game proved costly as Sabalenka went on to secure a one-set lead. The three-time Grand Slam champion quickly built a 3-0 advantage in the second set. Anisimova showed real grit to save six match points in a marathon hold of serve to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Sabalenka finally finished it off on her own serve at the eighth time of asking with a thumping backhand winner. Zamalek conclude league campaign with 2-0 win over Pharco - Egyptian Football

Third-placed Zamalek ended their disappointing Egyptian League season with a 2-0 victory over Pharco FC in the final matchday of the playoff stage at Cairo International Stadium on Saturday. Midfielders Mohamed Shehata and youngster Mohamed El-Sayed scored for Zamalek in each half, securing a morale-boosting result for the White Knights ahead of their Cup final on 5 June against Pyramids. Despite dominating possession in the first half, Zamalek struggled to create clear scoring opportunities. Shehata broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, latching onto a cross from left-back Ahmed Fatouh outside the box to unleash a stunning 25-meter right-footed strike into the bottom-left corner, marking his second league goal of the season. The Cairo-based side continued to face challenges in breaching Pharco's resolute defense, which remained organized in thwarting Zamalek's attempts to extend their lead. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Shehata tested the woodwork with another long-range effort, striking the left post before the ball rebounded off goalkeeper Mohamed Nadim into his grasp. After the break, interim coach Ayman El-Ramady introduced Nasser Maher, Mohamed El-Sayed, and Mostafa El-Zenary for Nabil Emad, Abdallah El-Said, and Omar Gaber. Six minutes into the second half, right-winger Ahmed 'Esho' Abdel-Rahman struck the crossbar with a close-range left-footed shot. El-Ramady's 58th-minute substitution of veteran skipper Mahmoud 'Shikabala' Abdel-Razek proved decisive, as the Zamalek star delivered a precise cross from the left for El-Sayed to tap home from close range. Pharco FC's players appealed for a penalty four minutes later when striker Ahmed Sherif fell in the box, but the referee upheld the decision to continue play following a VAR review. Zamalek dominated the remainder of the match but failed to capitalize on further chances. The result lifted Zamalek to 47 points, finishing 11 points behind league champions Ahly and nine adrift of second-placed Pyramids FC, while Pharco FC retained seventh spot with 32 points. Zamalek now shift focus to their Egypt Cup final showdown against Pyramids FC on Thursday, aiming to secure silverware after a frustrating campaign.
