Newport pub The Tickled Trout is city's best kept secret

It looks rather unassuming, but upon stepping through the doors I am greeted with warmth from managers Poppy Morgan, 29, and Lesley Davies, 36.
The pair took over the pub not too long ago, turning it from a tired Spanish tapas bar to somewhere that you can take part in a leisurely lunch, a drink over a boardgame, or even a 'Taylor Swift cake decorating class' – I'm promised that these themed classes are extremely popular and not as strange as they sound at first.
Poppy and Lesley have turned the Tickled Trout into a place for everyone (Image: Supplied) It has a cozy atmosphere and the welcome from the staff on duty is incomparable – it feels like they truly care about this venue and want customers to care too.
Strictly speaking, The Tickled Trout is not a really a pub - it's in the no-man's land between restaurant and bar, but this doesn't bother them one bit.
The people are Newport are beginning to love the Tickled Trout, as are customers from further afield. Poppy and Lesley detail how just last week they had a customer travel to visit all the way from Oxford, and they couldn't speak highly enough of the relaxed and cosy atmosphere of the pub.
With five separate food menus to choose from, there is something on offer for everyone. The Tickled Trout has aimed to redefine traditional Spanish tapas to include flavours from across the globe, changing customers' perceptions on what they already know of the small dish options.

It creates an inclusive dining experience and ensures that everyone is catered for with no risk.
Lesley said: 'We get a lot of praise for our vegan menu.
'We get the ingredients in fresh every day, and our chefs create the dishes from scratch. Rather than buy pre-made sauce mixes, all our aioli's and anything else we use and serve is made from scratch.'

Poppy laughs: 'We get everyone in for bottomless brunch, from the 18-year-olds who drink actual cocktails to the older ladies who usually prefer a glass of prosecco.'
Lesley said: 'People usually go to a bottomless brunch and expect either good food, or good cocktails. We're proud that with us you get both.'

Just in: Melbourne is the sixth best city in the world for nightlife right now

If this news doesn't call for one helluva party, we don't know what will. It's just been announced that Melbourne has ranked sixth on Time Out's list of the world's top 20 best cities for nightlife – and while it's no shock to any of us locals who love a late-night boogie and bev, we're still pretty damn stoked to be named among some of the hottest party spots around the globe. In case you hadn't realised, we've long been a champion of nightlife – and that's why we set out to collate the world's greatest cities for going out in 2025. We quizzed thousands of people in hundreds of the world's best cities, asking them to rate both the quality and affordability of their city's nightlife scene, from clubbing and bars to pubs and nighttime entertainment. After crunching all that data, we narrowed down the selection by excluding cities with lower overall scores and only including the highest-scoring city for each country. To create the final ranking, a panel of nightlife experts, including Time Out's city editors and arts and culture writers, voted on their faves. So which city claimed the top after-dark accolade? None other than the legendary party den of Las Vegas. Yep, the glittering, neon-lit strip is officially the hottest nightlife spot in 2025. And you know what, we get it – it's fun, it's full on and whether you're at a giant rave, epic EDM set or swanky cocktail bar, you know it's gonna be a guaranteed good time. Rounding out the rest of the top five is the Spanish capital of Madrid in second, Paris in third (duh, that one's a classic), Shanghai in fourth and Berlin (another no-brainer) in fifth. That means Melbourne beat out certified party spots like Amsterdam, Bangkok, Mexico City and Cape Town. How good! Back to Melbourne. We've always known our all-hours city is Australia's undisputed nightlife capital, and now we can really rub it in (sorry, Sydney!). On any given evening, you can find a basement club catering for all kinds of subcultures, an intimate bar with a vinyl collection that will have you swooning (hello, Music Room) or a glittering drag show starring a roster of fabulous queens. And while the tried-and-true nightclubs remain a rite of passage for all partygoers – we're looking at you, Revs – there's been a noticeable shift to alternative after-hours adventures. Think chic, cosy lounges with epic sound systems à la Waxflower, Caretaker's Cottage and Angel Music Bar, or late-night festivals like Rising and Now or Never that host exhibitions, feasts and parties well into the wee hours. If we take a look at the stats, locals in Melbourne were fourth-most likely to describe their city as 'lively', and an impressive 81 per cent of Melburnians rated their city highly for nightlife. However, only 23 per cent agreed that a night out in the city is cheap, making it one of the lowest-ranked cities for affordability. Ok, so there's room for improvement – but hey, if we can fix that we're a shoe-in for the number one spot next year. Sleep? There's no time for that in Melbourne – see you out there, no matter how late it is. Love Island fans slam 'terrifying' boys over 'bully' behaviour

Love Island fans have been left 'terrified' by two male members of the cast after their behvaviour on the ITV2 reality show Love Island fans have been left "terrified" by two male members of the cast. ‌ Viewers of the ITV2 dating reality show, which is currently in its final weeks on air, were left shocked when Harry Cooksley decided to flirt with Angel Swift, even though he is currently coupled up with Helena Ford. ‌ The 30-year-old footballer riled fans up even further when he commented on Angel's underwear, right in front of his girlfriend. The move came just moments after he assured Helena that he had "binned off" Bombshell Angel so he could be fully committed to their own romance. ‌ Meanwhile, fellow Islander Dejon Noel-Williams disappointed fans when he declined Yasmin Pettet's request for a chat after he had dished out a string of mean comments during a Snoggathon challenge. At the time, he claimed that he was busy eating but later told her that he "was just joking" but insisted that if it was all taken in offence, then he apologised to her. Still, the two boys have ruffled the feathers of those who tuned into Love Island and the loyal fans of the programme took to social media to make their opinions known. One wrote on X: "Dejon is one of the worst islanders to enter this villa. The gaslighting, the manipulation, the deflection, the lack of accountability and the bullying. It's been hard to watch," whilst another took great issue with Harry, writing: "Harry giving googly eyes to Angel in front of Helena is so disrespectful. What is wrong with these men?' In venting their frustration at both, a third fan wrote: "Harry's the devil you know, Dejon is the devil you don't." ‌ Another fan was quick to describe Dejon as "very calculated" with how he conducts himself in the Spanish villa, saying: "Dejon is very very calculated. Even how he has reflected and used the very things he knows the public voted them down for… Byeeee", but another viewer claimed that both the footballer and his current girlfriend Meg Moore are simply a construct that have come from behind the scenes. They said: "Meg and Dejon is propaganda I am seriously not falling for love island producers.' The social media furore comes just days after - who has embarked on an on-off relationship with Helena since the show started but haven't yet "closed things off" - said in Friday evening's episode that he was "open" to getting to know bombshell Angel. Only time will tell if he has a better connection with Angel than he has with Helena. ‌ Despite the high drama of Monday's episode, none of this was enough to keep viewers interested, with many fans calling it "the most boring" one of the entire series. Viewers kept repeating they were "bored" with some wanting to "skip" to the end of the episode. Taking to social media, one fan commented: "So obviously today is gonna be the most boring episode of the season." Another fan said: "Can we skip to the end," as a third viewer asked: "Is anyone else mad bored?" Another fan wrote online: "I'm bored and theres still the date to come," while a further comment from a viewer said: "Can't lie it's starting to become boring now." This was echoed by another fan who posted: "This is such a boring episode." The same comments kept on being shared, as one fan said: "This episode is so boring." Another fan agreed: "Most boring episode to date." As the episode came to an end, a tomorrow night teaser revealed a dumping was looming. Not only that but there's a special guest performing at the Love Island 'festival' before the Islanders must say goodbye. Viewers went back to commenting about the episode after seeing this, making a plea to bosses. A fan posted: "What a waste of my time @LoveIsland. Don't do that again." Another fan posted: "What a waste of an episode."

Jeremy Clarkson's girlfriend shares shocking picture of plane crash after miracle escape

Jeremy Clarkson's partner, Lisa Hogan, was travelling to London from Spain in the 90s when she had a near-death experience on a plane Jeremy Clarkson's girlfriend, Lisa Hogan, 'amazingly' survived a plane crash and took to social media to share a terrifying picture of the wreckage from 1996. The 51-year-old model had the horrifying experience 29 years ago when the plane came off the runway at RAF Northolt in London and hit a van on the A40. ‌ At the time, she was heading into London for a film role when the accident happened. This week, she took to her social media page to share a picture from the wreckage as she recalled the shocking moment that saw no casualties. The picture showed the Spanish Learjet 25 plane split in half after colliding into the van. ‌ ‌ She was living in Palma, Spain and working on the comedy Fierce Creatures from Monty Python and Fawlty Towers actor John Cleese. "Amazingly, the pilots, van drivers, and I survived. I took another flight the same day. And landed safely," she captioned the post on Instagram. It comes after former Top Gear star Jeremy discussed the couple's record on airplanes. The duo 'walked away from three crashes over the years'. ‌ He said to the Sunday Times: "Whenever Lisa and I board an aeroplane, we are usually pretty confident that it will land safely because between us, we've walked away from three crashes over the years. "Both mine involved broken landing gear and were fairly minor, but hers was a proper shunt. She was the only passenger in a Learjet that careered off the end of the runway at Northolt and on to the A40, where it was hit so hard by a van that it split in two. ‌ "It's amazing no one was killed, and if you Google the images, you'll see what I mean." He went on to say that the 'law of averages' suggests they wouldn't be involved in any more crashes. Lisa previously told the Irish Independent she thought "everything was fine for a while" when the plane took off from Palma. Lisa said the captain tried to get her to change seats, but she refused to do so. ‌ "I insisted on sitting where I was, which was just as well because that was the area where the van came through when we crashed and I would have been killed instantly,' she told the publication, with her refusal to move seats possibly saving her life. A few hours later, she booked another flight and returned to Spain.
