Hamzah denies plot to oust Muhyiddin, says only outsiders spreading ‘baseless gossip' to divide Perikatan

KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has reportedly denied any rift within Perikatan Nasional (PN) and its lynchpin Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, saying critics were merely trying to divide the Opposition pact.
In an interview with Mingguan Malaysia, Hamzah denied any move to oust Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from leading the pact and party.
'Who's trying to remove whom? If someone were trying to oust him, surely I would be the first to know. But why am I not aware of anything?
'People say Muhyiddin is being pushed out — yet no one has said anything to me,' he was quoted saying.
Hamzah who is Muhyiddin's deputy in both PN and Bersatu, said it would be foolish for anyone to plan an ouster without discussing the succession plan with him.
'If someone did try and I said I wasn't interested, then what? What would happen? It would be foolish for anyone to act alone without discussing who's supposed to take over,' he said.
'To me, it's just baseless gossip from outsiders trying to divide us. That's all,' he added.
Instead, the Opposition Leader said the gossip and rumours over instability in PN was proof that the public is interested in the coalition.
'This shows that the public is interested in us because they see our potential. That's why people talk about us — they're not talking about other parties, because others don't have the same kind of potential,' he said.
'The ones spreading these stories aren't even members, and may not even be from within the party. Sometimes, even party members are left wondering — who said this? Who started this rumour?'
Hamzah insisted that there is no conflict between him and Muhyiddin, and they meet at least once a month for political discussions.
'We talk to each other, and there are no issues between us. It's outsiders who are trying to make it look like there are problems. It just goes to show how strong our party is — everyone is talking about us,' he added.

Trump slams former ally Musk's political party as 'ridiculous'

President Donald Trump on Sunday slammed former ally Elon Musk's launching of a new political party as "ridiculous," after the tech billionaire who once backed the Republican said he wanted to challenge the United States' "one-party system." "I think it's ridiculous to start a third party," Trump told reporters before he boarded Air Force One on his way back to Washington. "It's always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion." "Third parties have never worked. So he can have fun with it, but I think it's ridiculous," he said. The world's richest person -- and Trump's biggest political donor in the 2024 election -- had a bitter falling out with the president after leading the Republican's effort to slash spending and cut federal jobs as head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk has clashed with Trump over the president's massive domestic spending plan, saying it would explode the US debt, and vowed to do everything in his power to defeat lawmakers who voted for it. On Saturday, he created the so-called "America Party," through which the Tesla, SpaceX and X owner will attempt to do that. In a later post on Truth Social, Trump said Musk had gone "off the rails" and had become "a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks." He said the creation of a third party would create "Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS." Trump repeated his earlier assertion that Musk, who owns electric vehicle company Tesla, had turned on him due to his spending bill cutting electric vehicle subsidies. Musk has argued his opposition is primarily due to the bill increasing the US fiscal deficit and sovereign debt. Earlier on Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also threw shade at Musk's attempts to enter the political fray, telling him to stick to running his companies. When asked by CNN if Musk's plan bothered the Trump administration, Bessent offered thinly veiled criticism. "I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone," Bessent said. "So I imagine that those board of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities." Musk left DOGE in May to focus full-time on his corporate responsibilities, with Tesla's sales and image especially suffering from his brief venture into Trump's inner circle. dk-aha/sst

"He's Just Throwing Another Tantrum": People Are Slamming Elon Musk For Attempting To Form His Own Political Party

Elon Musk wants to start his own political party. On July 5, the Tesla founder and former adviser to President Donald Trump announced on his X account that he's forming the America Party. Just the day before, Elon posted a poll suggesting that "Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?" Related: His poll surprisingly received over 1.2 million votes, with over 65% voting "yes." In another post, he added, "One way to execute on this would be to laser-focus on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts. Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the deciding vote on contentious laws, ensuring that they serve the true will of the people." Elon shared another post officially announcing the launch of the new US political party. "By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!" he wrote. "When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom." He followed up by resharing a meme of a two-headed snake and the caption "End the Uniparty." He replied, "Yes." Elon's been teasing (or threatening) to form a third party for a while. On June 5, he posted a poll asking, "Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?" Related: Then, on June 30, Elon made an internet promise that if Congress passed Trump's "Big, Beautiful Bill," which he's been a vocal critic of, he would form the "America Party." Well, it looks like good ol' Elon is serious about this next move, and the internet is not holding back with many people taking to social media to criticize the SpaceX founder for even floating the idea. One person wrote, "The 'america party'. A party created and funded by south african born billionaire. The onion couldn't make a better headline." Related: "He's just throwing another tantrum as usual when he doesn't get his way. He 'helped' Trump cuz he wanted Trump to not terminate all those EV incentives cuz he feels it will hurt his EV sales but Trump did it anyway. Now he wants to create a new political party cuz he did all that work and got nothing out of it but a big fat no🙄," another person wrote. Someone said, "Another Billionaire is launching a new political party, to 'represent the common people' LOL Ahhh you couldn't make this stuff up." There were some folks who believed, "The two leading parties have become rotten," and "this country needs a new party." This user wrote, "OMG . can US politics get more of a joke at the suffering of regular citizens 😱😱" Related: "You're telling me he gets mad that there's nothing in the bill that provides support for any of his fancy electric cars, so he gets mad and declares he's making his own party. The irony!" this social media user pointed out. Some people were saying, "USA has become one big reality show." This person joked, "Finally!! A party run by a candidate that can relate to every day middle class Americans. Being a South African billionaire Musk is well versed in the every day struggles of the American people." And finally, this person wrote, "The America Party is the most generic name for an American political party imaginable." What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below.
