Time of India09-07-2025
New Delhi:
Oil India Limited
(OIL) and GAIL (India) Limited have signed a 15-year
Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement
(GSPA) for the supply of up to 900,000 standard cubic meters per day (SCMD) of natural gas from OIL's gas fields in Rajasthan, with effect from July 1, 2025.
The agreement aims to support the natural gas requirement of Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL), the state government power utility. The deal was signed at GAIL's corporate office in New Delhi by Ranjan Goswami, Executive Director (Business Development), OIL, and Sumit Kishore, Executive Director (Gas Marketing), GAIL.
The supply arrangement builds on an existing commercial relationship between the two Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprises under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The agreement aligns with the government's plan to increase the share of natural gas in India's energy mix and promote cleaner fuel usage across sectors.
As per the agreement, the gas from OIL's Rajasthan fields will be supplied through GAIL's transmission network to RRVUNL's power plants.
OIL stated that it will continue to expand its upstream operations through exploration and development efforts in existing and new acreages across the country. GAIL reiterated its focus on gas monetisation through its infrastructure and marketing presence.
The agreement is expected to ensure continuous gas supply from domestic sources for the power sector in Rajasthan.

Top Gainers and Losers on August 05: Triveni Turbine, Reliance Power, BSE, Inox India, Swiggy among top losers today

The Indian stock market resumed its losing streak in Tuesday's session but recovered most of its early losses to end with minimal cuts, as investor sentiment turned cautious after U.S. President Donald Trump, in an overnight social media post, threatened New Delhi with significantly steeper tariffs, though he did not specify the level. The Nifty 50 closed with a 0.30% decline at 24,649 points, while the S&P BSE Sensex ended 0.42% lower at 80,681 points. Broader markets also closed weaker, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices each losing up to 0.34%. Most of the sectors that witnessed a sharp turnaround in the previous trading session were sold off sharply, with Oil & Gas, Pharma, and FMCG emerging as the biggest laggards, while auto index managed to end with decent gains. Trump's repeated tariff threats are driven by India's strong ties with Russia and its position as the largest importer of Russian crude. He accused India of profiting from the Russia-Ukraine conflict by reselling discounted Russian oil on global markets. Responding to the U.S. president's remarks, India's external affairs ministry stated that India began importing oil from Russia only after 'traditional supplies' were diverted to Europe following the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022. The ministry also called out the EU and the U.S., saying, 'It is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia."

Rupee stays pressured near record low levels amidst tariff concerns; RBI eyed

The Indian rupee is once again seen drowning near record low levels as concerns surrounding Trumps tariff and uncertainty surrounding the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) monetary policy announcement on Wednesday weighs. US President Trump, last week, announced a 25% tariff with an unspecified penalty for buying Oil from Russia, on imports from India. Meanwhile, losses in the currency were limited tracking local equities that were supported by falling oil prices on supply glut fears and a weaker dollar due to tariff-related worries and growing fears of political influence on key institutions in the U.S. The BSE Sensex jumped 418.81 points, or, 0.52 percent, to 81,018.72, snapping a two-day losing streak. The broader NSE Nifty index surged 157.40 points, or 0.64 percent, to 24,722.75. Meanwhile, the rupee depreciated 52 paise to close at 87.70 (provisional) against the US dollar on Monday. Investors now await the announcement of the interest rate decision by the RBI on Wednesday. On the NSE, USDINR futures gained 0.14% to settle at 87.72 amid sustained weakness in rupee.
