Five of the best air conditioners to buy as the heatwave hits the UK

Wales' heatwave is underway with record high temperatures expected, but there's one effective solution to combat the sweltering temperatures, which is an air conditioner.
Portable air conditioners can be a godsendduring warm and humid days and nights. Air conditioners not only provide relief during the day but also aid in ensuring a good night's sleep by maintaining a cool and less humid environment.
However, with the heatwave said to last over the weekend, consumers may require an air conditioner that can be delivered promptly and perform efficiently.
Here's a list of worthwhile air conditioners to help cool your rooms.
Our selection includes models with varying BTU levels, from lower (ideal for smaller rooms) to higher (suitable for larger spaces), enabling shoppers to select what best suits their needs.
JML Air Cooler, Portable Fan and Humidifier - £33.99
For a small and reasonable priced cooling device, Amazon has reduced the price of JML Air Cooler, Portable Fan and Humidifier from £39.99 to £33.99 in its 15% off Amazon Prime Day deal. This device aims to cool your personal space, it has an increased power with four fan settings, and it has an evaporative, washable filter for "long-lasting cooling".
It also has a dual mist spray jets for instant cool air, it has a seven-colour LED night light, top-fill tank and adjustable air flow grill. One reviewer was "very pleasantly surprised at how powerful they are", but another customer claimed it was "very noisy" and "isn't powerful enough to cool a room".

The electriQ serves as an excellent entry-level air conditioner, ideal for cooling down smaller rooms. It effectively cools areas up to 20 sqm in homes or offices and offers four modes to choose from, including Cool and Sleep.
This model comes with a window kit for venting the unit out of a window and a remote control for adjusting the settings from afar. In terms of energy consumption, it boasts A-rated efficiency, which equates to approximately 20p per hour.
However, a word of caution - this model is designed for relatively small rooms, so buyers should make an informed decision. Reviews also indicate that while it effectively cools a decent-sized room, it can be somewhat noisy.
A critique from a buyer noted: "Cools a decent-sized bedroom well enough. Fan mode still runs the extractor fan, making it extremely noisy and that mode sort of useless. Its sleep mode doesn't make it quieter, just turns off the lights."

Ideal for somewhat larger spaces, the Argo Iside portable air conditioner shines in areas up to 28 sqm including bedrooms and moderately sized rooms – though potential purchasers should double-check their room dimensions before committing. It's also designed to be compact, not hogging too much floor space.
It further features a dehumidifier function which promises to accelerate drying laundry or combat dampness and mould at home. With Wi-Fi capabilities, customers have given kudos for its effectiveness but have highlighted its notable noise level.

Amazon's EcoFlow WAVE 3 portable air conditioner was £699 but is now 6% off and priced at £659 in the Prime Day deal. It delivers 1800W cooling - which is said to be 20% more BTU than competitors - to lower temperatures by 8C in just 15 minutes. According to Amazon, its 2000W heating boosts warmth by 9C, while an automatic mode maintains ideal day/night comfort in varying climates.
In reviews, one customers described it as an "excellent product", but another claimed it had a "noisy compressor".
De'Longhi 11000 BTU Smart Air Conditioner and Dehumidifier - £700
At the top of the price scale on our review list is De'Longhi's offering, renowned for their top-tier dehumidifiers – and this model lives up to the reputation. This 11000 BTU powerhouse carries a price tag of £700 from Argos, a lofty figure, yet for those with spacious abodes, it could be the ultimate investment.
Sporting an A+ energy efficiency rating, this air cooler is engineered to keep vast living spaces up to 110 sqm refreshed while curbing summer energy costs. It boasts integrated voice command features and app connectivity for bespoke climate control.
Customers have been quick to praise the product, with one reviewer commenting: "It wasn't cheap, but I really wanted one that would actually work and this performs above my expectations".
That being said, a few buyers did express some dissatisfaction, noting that the hose attachment was a bit on the smaller side.

Haircare brand ghd launch four new tools that make curls 'last all day'

ghd, the brand behind the viral Chronos straightener, has released a new collection of curling tools designed to create long-lasting waves - but do they live up to the hype? When it comes to salon-quality hair tools, few brands are as renowned as ghd. And now, the haircare retailer is taking curls to the next level with the launch of its brand new Chronos Curve range. Following the viral success of its Chronos straightener, the new collection features four curling tools designed to create long-lasting waves and ringlets that stay bouncy from morning till night. The range includes two curling wands and two tongs, each featuring ghd's signature heat technology and ceramic barrels for shiny, frizz-free curls. Each device is priced at £189, reflecting ghd's premium pricing, but those familiar with the brand will know that the tools often justify the cost. The Max Wand boasts a large barrel and is designed for longer hair and looser curls, while the Classic Tong promises sleek, defined waves. The Grand Tong, on the other hand, appears capable of creating voluminous ringlets that bounce with every movement. The Conical Wand, arguably the most versatile of the four, is designed to create more relaxed, natural curls. Our beauty writer, Lauren Codling, tried them out for herself when they first hit the market, and was impressed by the speed and final results. Shop the range £189 ghd Buy Now on ghd Product Description She said: 'It took me roughly 10 to 15 minutes to style my entire head, which is efficient by my standards. The wand was easy to manoeuvre and lightweight enough that my arms weren't tired halfway through. 'The curls impressively maintained their shape with minimal hairspray, turning slightly softer yet remaining intact, and my hair stayed sleek and glossy all night. However, styling the shorter front layers proved challenging, so bear this in mind if your haircut is similar.' The entire range heats to a steady 185 °C, which the brand touts as the 'optimum styling temperature', which Lauren said was 'spot on' for her fine-to-medium hair. However, if you prefer tongs with adjustable settings, Babyliss' Rose Quartz 25mm Curling Tong (£35, Amazon) has six temperature settings, ranging from 160°C to 210°C. Otherwise, the TRESemmé Large Ceramic Curling Tong (£27, Argos) has three settings, with a maximum temperature of 200°C. Additional ghd styling tools have garnered positive reviews as well. One Grand Tong user noted: "It slides through my hair to the ends smoothly and doesn't stick or pull at all. I like the fact I can curl right to the tips of my hair, which I struggle to do with the wand." Another person trying the Classic Tong added: "The curls lasted all day and still looked great the next day. The tongs were quick to heat up and cool down. It came with a handy glove which helped protect my hand from the heat of the tool." But the Grand Tong hasn't been a hit with everyone. One user expressed their disappointment, saying: "Unfortunately, the curls didn't hold in my thick, coarse hair-even with prep and setting spray. Although the tong is advertised to give long-lasting curls (up to 24 hours), mine fell out within a few hours, which was disappointing." Another customer who tried out the Max Wand left a three-star review, stating: "The 38mm barrel was a bit wide for my length of hair, so I ended up with loose waves rather than curls." However, not all reviews were negative. One satisfied customer commented: "I have tried various hair curlers in the past, but never one that worked for me. The thick barrel was great for my long hair, creating soft, wavy curls that I loved. Plus, it was really quick." They further added: "In less than 30 minutes, I had completed the style from start to finish, and it would usually take me a couple of hours."

Skechers launch new kids' shoes with hidden AirTag pocket

The Go Run Elevate range from Skechers has a hidden AirTag-compatible compartment under the inner sole, allowing parents to keep an eye on their little ones' whereabouts Renowned for their comfort and support, Skechers are a favourite trainer brand, even providing relief for those with back pain and mobility issues. Now, the brand has taken it a step further by designing a children's shoe with a hidden compartment specifically for an Apple AirTag. This allows parents to literally track their child's every move, marking a significant departure from their usual slip-on trainers or shoes with 'cloud-like' inserts. Priced from £45, the Go Run Elevate range features a concealed AirTag-compatible pocket beneath the inner sole. The hidden feature is not immediately apparent when looking at the shoe, which may reassure parents that they can monitor their child's location, whether at nursery, in the park, or during a busy day out. Starting at £45 for toddler sizes, the range goes up to £55 for boys' and girls' sizes, reports Nottinghamshire Live. However, it's important to note that the AirTag - the key product upon which Skechers have based their design - is not included in the price. These must be purchased separately and start at £28 per AirTag on Amazon. Alternatively, Currys sell a pack of four AirTags for £92. This may appear like a substantial expense initially, but it proves more economical - working out at £23 per AirTag. Currently, no other manufacturer has launched a footwear range specifically engineered to accommodate a Bluetooth tracker. Nevertheless, it's become a trending topic on social media, with parents fitting AirTags to the laces of children's Jordan 1's, for instance, now priced at £54.99 from the Nike Store. When measured against the aforementioned options, the Skechers appear to offer a more comfortable method of incorporating the AirTag into the shoe, whilst also providing a cosy design. The Go Run Elevate collection boasts adaptive materials and includes an instep strap. Being a fresh design, feedback remains sparse, though the overall reaction from customers has been favourable. The handful of reviews published thus far emphasise the comfort and functionality. One five-star assessment states: "The idea of this product is awesome, and Skechers are comfortable and offer good quality for a great price. The fact that someone gave this product a one-star rating based on a suggestion to make these for adults didn't sit well with me." Another buyer also remarked that their child found the shoe 'so comfortable to wear'. Whilst the majority of parents who have purchased these for their youngsters support the concept, not everyone does, and it's proving to spark controversy. with the design, as one individual posted: "This is weird since Apple doesn't recommend using AirTags to track one's kids."
