I Take This Portable Charger Everywhere I Travel and It's 33% Off Right Now

CNET15-07-2025
I take my phone with me wherever I go, and I'm not afraid to admit that I've come to rely on it for just about every aspect of my life -- from getting news, weather and navigation help to staying in close contact with friends, family and co-workers. That means, like many people, I live in constant fear that my iPhone's battery will die on me right when I need it most. That is, I did until I found the Anker 622 MagGo, which CNET ranked as the best magnetic power bank with an integrated stand, and which I now take with me everywhere I go.
In my opinion, this charger is a worthwhile buy even at its full retail price of $48. But right now you can get every color for a solid discount of about 33% off. The cheapest option is dark gray, which is on sale for $32, while all other colors -- lavender, white, mint green and pale blue -- are all available for $34.
Here's why I've stuck with this little charger for so long
Have you seen people walk around with a loop of cable hanging from their pocket to their phone? I've been there and hooked that loop on too many chairs and table corners. Never again. The ring of magnets in the Anker 622 MagGo aligns with the MagSafe magnets in every iPhone since the iPhone 12, latching securely and charging without wires. (The notable exception is the iPhone 16E, which does not offer MagSafe but does charge wirelessly using Qi technology. The Anker 622 MagGo will charge the iPhone 16E but won't latch to it magnetically.)
It's also compact -- a little backpack feeding power to the phone while you're holding it or have it stashed in a pocket, even a jeans pocket if your fit isn't too tight.
Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.
Those features alone would have convinced me but the Anker 622 also includes a fold-out back flap that props up my iPhone and can also hold the phone in its wide orientation for StandBy mode. With a power adapter such as the Anker Nano Pro (not included) and a charging cable, I've taught long classes with the phone angled to help me keep track of the time without checking my watch.

MagSafe-compatible charging
I've owned several battery chargers and each one has some sort of compromise. They're bulky. They require a cable. They charge wirelessly but don't include a magnet to keep the phone in place so it's hard to maintain that connection. There's always something.
The Anker 622 is half an inch thick and snaps onto the back of my iPhone using the MagSafe-aligned magnets. I don't have to turn it on to start charging -- power flows as soon as the connection is made.
Now, this isn't the highest-capacity (5,000 mAh) or fastest portable charger. That's fine. What I usually need is a way to eke out a few more hours of battery life on my iPhone. I can typically get a full top-off of my iPhone 15 Pro.
The Anker 622 MagGo is smaller than an iPhone 15 Pro.

Making a stand
The other appealing feature of the Anker 622 MagGo for me is its built-in stand. Honestly, it doesn't look like it should work well: It's a fabric-covered set of plastic pieces that lie flush against the case, folds in two places and attaches to the back of the unit with a magnetic strip when extended. Yet I've had no problems with the stability of my iPhone 15 Pro or even the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max size.
The stand on the Anker 622 MagGo slides down and adheres with a magnetic strip.

This also lets me use standby mode by turning the iPhone to landscape orientation (the magnets are strong enough to hold the phone in place) when it's on a table or desk.
Flip the iPhone horizontally to take advantage of StandBy mode while charging.

Smart port placement matters
The charger gets its juice from a single USB-C port, which is positioned on the edge of the case, not the bottom. That means you can replenish it while the stand is open -- many chargers' ports are stuck on the bottom.
Having the USB-C port on the side keeps it accessible even when in its stand configuration.
Jeff Carlson/CNET
That USB-C port also acts as a charger for other devices when you plug in a cable, such as when your Apple Watch needs a boost.
Charge other devices, such as an Apple Watch, from the Anker 622's USB-C port.

How the Anker 622 MagGo compares to similar power banks
Before getting the Anker 622 MagGo, I carried an Anker PowerCore III 10K Wireless, which doubles the battery capacity, includes a USB-A port and charges wirelessly but without magnets to hold the phone in place. That meant if I didn't use a cable, the phone and charger needed to be stable and level; too often I'd find the iPhone slid off its wireless perch and not charged. It's also larger and heavier. I still use it, but it's the power bank that goes into my carry-on suitcase as a backup charger.
The Anker 622 MagGo is much smaller and lighter than my old reliable Anker PowerCore III 10K Wireless, which is now a solid backup.
Jeff Carlson/CNET
Since I've owned this Anker 622 MagGo, the company has released a few updated models. The $60 Anker 633 packs 10,000 mAh into a thicker brick, includes a USB-A port in addition to USB-C and has a metal kickstand for resting the phone upright.
You can also consider getting the chunkier Anker MagGo Power Bank that delivers 10,000 mAh and follows the same idea of compact magnetic charging and a convenient kickstand. Its main appeals are faster 15-watt magnetic charging and Qi2 compatibility, plus a small display on the side that reports the battery capacity and an estimate of the remaining battery in hours.
(Note that some Anker power banks were part of a recent recall. Be sure to claim your free replacement or gift card if you own one of the affected devices sold between 2016 and 2022.)

Photoshop's New AI Tool Wants to Help You Spend Less Time Relighting Photos

Photoshop is getting a new dose of generative AI, Adobe announced Tuesday. Three new Firefly-powered editing tools are rolling out now, including a new photo harmonization tool, a new upscaling feature to make images sharper and updates to its AI eraser. Adobe users got a sneak peek at the harmonize tool at last fall's creator conference, Adobe Max, when it was known as Project Perfect Blend. Adobe Applied Research Scientist Mengwei Ren told CNET at the time that the tool uses AI to create new lighting conditions without changing or destroying the underlying image. "It's generating some lighting effects but preserving the identity, the structure and faces. We don't want to change anything dramatically," said Ren. The AI creates a new lighting, matching the coloring and shading of the original environment, and it's applied as a kind of invisible layer over the existing object in a matter of minutes. It dramatically cuts down the time it would take to manually edit each object in a composite image. An example of what the harmonize tool can do. The original headshot (left) is illuminated to create a completely relit shot (right). Adobe/Screenshots by Katelyn Chedraoui Two other gen AI changes coming for Photoshop users are a new generative upscaling tool and upgrades to its generative remove feature. Upscaling is a common generative AI process that improves an existing image; in this case, the Photoshop tool promises to boost image resolution up to 8 megapixels. More pixels means your imagery should be sharper and clearer. The updated remove tool should be more precise for you to use when selecting objects you want erased, and the affected area should blend more seamlessly for a cleaner final edit. Read More: I Took Photoshop's Generative AI for a Spin. These Are the Tools That Stuck Out The new features are rolling out now to Photoshop users. You'll need to use the beta desktop app or web app to use the three new AI tools. The harmonize feature is additionally available through the Photoshop iPhone mobile app. Adobe subscription plans that include Photoshop start at $20 per month. Adobe is well into its AI era, and this week's drop is just the latest in the company's effort to integrate generative AI across its editing software suite. Photoshop has a lot of AI, including its popular generative fill, expand and remove tools. Its proprietary family of Firefly AI models also let paying subscribers generate images and video clips, now with audio. Many creators are worried about the development and deployment of generative AI, from the alleged copyright infringement taking place during model training to the AI slop filling online spaces and job security worries. Adobe's AI user guidelines and terms say it doesn't train on customer content, and its models are trained on licensed content (including Adobe Stock) and public domain content. How To Sleep Smarter With Apple Watch And HomePod: 5 Ways They Can Help

We all know sleep is crucial to our health. Wake up refreshed, and the day ahead is that bit easier. Sleep tracking can be a useful tool towards a better night's sleep, and Apple is on a mission to help. Here are five ways to optimize your zzz's. Apple Watch and sleep metrics 1 Routine Is Crucial While being described as predictable never sounds like a compliment, choosing a regular time to go to bed can make a big difference. You can create a Sleep Schedule on your Apple Watch to remind you to start winding down before you turn in. This can take a little getting used to, especially if you choose to introduce Sleep Focus at this point, which can minimize distractions not just on your Watch but your Mac and iPhone as well. Still, even if you just ask your Watch to remind you it's nearly bedtime — something that other devices such as the Whoop band also do — it can be a useful way of setting up a regular schedule. 2 HomePod mini Can Help You Drift Off Say, 'Siri, play Ambient Sounds,' for instance, and your HomePod or HomePod mini can start playing one of the soundscapes available on Apple Music. You don't need the smart speaker to do this as obviously Apple Music plays through other devices, but the sound quality is at its best on the HomePod or HomePod mini. The soundscape options include rain, forest noises, white noise and more. When it's playing, say, 'Siri, set a sleep timer for 7 minutes,' or whatever, and it'll stop playing at the right time. 3 Track Your Sleep Sleep stages shown on the iPhone This is the key metric. The Sleep setting on the Watch means the display stays dark, so you won't accidentally wake yourself when you move. And in the morning, it will give you a breakdown of how much you were awake in the night (moments of wakefulness are normal), and divide your sleep into Core, Deep Sleep and REM stages. Other trackers talk about Light sleep but Apple calls this Core, probably because there's nothing light about it. It's useful to see how much of your sleep is REM and Deep, as these are the most restorative. And there's a psychological element here: if I wake up feeling weary and think that I've only slept for an hour or so after a bad night, checking in with my Watch to find I slept much better than I thought instantly makes me feel better. 4 Check Your Vitals This is a newish Apple Watch app and it's designed to compare your metrics from night to night, so it can tell when your readings are exceptional. It looks at sleep duration, heart rate, respiratory rate and wrist temperature. Your natural readings may be different from the average, and the advantage of Vitals is how it compares your personal readings to establish what's normal for you. 5 Sleep Apnea Sleep apnea is that condition where your breathing stops repeatedly to cause disrupted sleep. Huge numbers of people remain undiagnosed, but Apple Watch can check each night and let you know if it spots any signs. Of course, you need to recharge your Watch on a regular basis. It takes half an hour for the battery to go from flat to 80% (perhaps while you're showering and brushing your teeth is a good time) and if you find your Watch is running low before you go to bed, a 15-minute charge is enough for eight hours of sleep tracking.
