Reo Hatate then found the back of the net with just under 20 minutes to play, putting a seal on the three points.
"That's my favourite performance of the season," said Rodgers on Sky Sports' end-of-campaign Celtic programme that was aired on Friday evening.
"Because at the very highest level, we had taken on a team who had an outstanding manager in Marco Rose, Leipzig, who had been in the Champions League for a number of years and had some fantastic players, and we demonstrated at the highest level every part of our game.
"We went behind in the game. We showed the courage to counter-press and press the game. We go 2-1 up at half-time, then go 3-1 up. In the second half, we played some amazing football.
"And I think the comments from some of the players afterwards, talking about our performance and how they felt in the game, that's what I always wanted for my team."
Celtic eventually went on to finish 21st in the league phase of European football's premier club competition.
They qualified for the knockout-stage play-off only to be eliminated by Bayern Munich courtesy of a last-minute Alphonso Davies goal.
Rodgers' men will have to negotiate a nerve-shredding play-off tie to qualify for the Champions League proper in the forthcoming season.

Inter star pulls out of international duty just hours after Champions League final humiliation at the hands of PSG

One of Inter Milan 's stars has decided to pull out of his country's international fixtures following Saturday's Champions League final defeat. The Italian side were thrashed by Paris Saint-Germain in Munich in what was the biggest final defeat in the history of the tournament. Desire Doue bagged a brace while Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu were also on target as the French giants secured a historic treble. Francesco Acerbi started at the base of Inter's defence and it has now been revealed that the Italian will not take part in his nation's upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Fabrizio Romano reports that Acerbi has rejected to join Italian national team for the upcoming international games. He posted on X: 'Francesco Acerbi has rejected to join Italian national team for the upcoming international games. 'Acerbi informed me by text message this morning, we move on', says Italy coach Luciano Spalletti.' He had been included in Spalletti's latest squad for June's World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Moldova. 'Acerbi did not respond to the call-up,' Spalletti told the media during his press conference on Sunday. 'Let's move on,' the CT added. 'It's not a physical issue, he's thought about what's happened around him. 'Previously he had some doubts. It's true that we have to hold our breath at the end of the season, it was not easy to make these call-ups.'

PSG's Dembele and Doue named Champions League players of the season

MUNICH, Germany, June 1 (Reuters) - Paris St Germain striker Ousmane Dembele was named Champions League Player of the Season by UEFA on Sunday after his turnaround season ended with him playing a big role in his side winning the competition for the first time. Dembele's teenage teammate Desire Doue was named Champions League young player of the season by European soccer's governing body. Dembele struggled early in the campaign, dropped by coach Luis Enrique for a league phase game with Arsenal for disciplinary reasons, but the 28-year-old went on to score eight Champions League goals after his switch to a more central role. While Dembele failed to find the net in PSG's 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in Saturday's final in Munich, he was singled out by the manager for his performance. "I would give the Ballon d'Or to Mr. Ousmane Dembele," Luis Enrique said. "The way he defended tonight, just that alone could be worth the Ballon d'Or. That's how you lead a team. Goals, trophies, leadership, defence, his pressing." The 19-year-old Doue wrapped up his extremely impressive campaign by creating the opening goal in the final for Achraf Hakimi before scoring twice himself. PSG had seven players named in the competition's team of the season while humbled finalists Inter had just one included. Team of the season: Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) Defenders: Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Marquinhos (PSG), Alessandro Bastoni (Inter), Nuno Mendes (PSG) Midfielders: Vitinha (PSG), Declan Rice (Arsenal) Forwards: Lamine Yamal (Barcelona), Desire Doue (PSG), Ousmane Dembele (PSG), Raphinha (Barcelona)

Ridvan Yilmaz ‘reaches agreement' to leave Ibrox with another Rangers star eyed as takeover rebuild begins

WITH Rangers' long awaited American takeover finally complete, the wheels of change are already in motion. Just days after it was officially confirmed the 49ers had bought into the club, technical director Nils Koppen looks set to become the first casualty of the new regime. 4 Rangers' Ridvan Yilmaz could be set for a Besiktas return Credit: Getty 4 He and teammate Robin Propper, centre left, are reportedly both eyed for exits Credit: Willie Vass 4 He's contracted for another two years at Ibrox Credit: Willie Vass But an on-field rebuild seems likely as well as the US investors inject a financial boost into the team after a season of struggle which saw the Gers comfortably second best to rivals Celtic. And the first dominoes looking likely to fall in the squad are both defenders, according to reports. Vaclav Cerny has already waved goodbye as the pricey loan star is valued at around £9 million by parent club Wolfsburg. But the contracted Ibrox aces potentially looking at being offloaded are Robin Propper and Ridvan Yilmaz. The Dutch centre back was named by the technical director of FC Twente - whom he moved to Glasgow from - as someone who would fit the bill for them. They are looking at new central defenders as Celtic loanee Gustaf Lagerbielke does not look to be extending his stay. Speaking to the podcast De Ballen Verstand Arnold Bruggink said: 'Lagerbielke will most likely go back (to Celtic) too. That's what it looks like at the moment. '(We need) two central defenders, one of whom has to be a real leader, as far as I'm concerned. The profile you're looking at is that of Robin Pröpper. 'You need a leader from the back, which will give you a lot more stability.' The Dutchman has made more than 40 appearances since joining at the beginning of last season and is still signed up until next year. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed 4 Propper to FC Twente would also be a return to a former club Credit: Getty Left-back Yilmaz is on the books until 2027 but is said to be destined for a return to his homeland Turkey. Aspor reports that the 24-year-old has agreed terms to re-join Besiktas who the Gers acquired him from three years ago. It also says the full back who has struggled with injury had 'requested facilitation' for the transfer to happen. Meanwhile in the dugout, the club are still without manager following interim boss Barry Ferguson's departure. Former player Russell Martin and David Ancelotti are still head-to-head according to the bookies as favourites to become the next manager.
