Influencer shared photo before being shot dead on beach in New Jersey

Daily Mail11 hours ago
A popular influencer posted a video at a beach in New Jersey just hours before he was shot dead.
Chrystofer A Whyte, 18, also known as @hi.imchrys on TikTok, was shot and killed at the Long Branch beach on the evening of June 12, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
Whyte had posted a video of himself lounging on the sand and captioned it #longbranch.
The Long Branch Police Department responded to reports of a shooting just before 9pm and discovered that Whyte had suffered a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two suspects were arrested in connection to the shooting - a juvenile, whose name wasn't released, and a teenager named Dwayne Exilus, 18.
Exilus was hit with a raft of second-degree charges relating to unlawful possession of a weapon. He faces murder charges in addition to possession of a weapon and hindering.
The investigation into Whyte's murder remains ongoing. Anyone with information relating to his death has been asked to contact the Long Branch Police or the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.
Exilus has been in trouble with the police before. He was arrested in April in connection to a shooting at an Applebee's.
The Linden Police said at the time that four men, including Exilus, entered the restaurant and chased another man into the parking lot.
Shots were fired but no injuries were reported and the suspects fled the scene. Exilus pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge and was ordered to pay a fine.
Authorities haven't released a motive for Whyte's death and it's unclear what his relationship was to the suspects.
The TikToker's friend, Jaiden Roche, told the local New Jersey Patch that he believed his friend's death was related to a social media feud.
Roche told the outlet that kids from Linden were making fun of Whyte during a TikTok live.
'I think this whole situation was about egos, back and forth online. Chrys is a very humble person, but the one thing he doesn't tolerate is disrespect,' he told the outlet.
Roche speculated that Whyte's last TikTok at the beach was what led to his untimely death.
'They [the suspects] saw his TikTok post and they ended up coming to the beach. They came to the beach knowing they would start problems,' Roche said.
'He had told these kids, let's fight. I guess these kids had something more than a fight in mind.'
Long Beach was reportedly packed on the night of Whyte's death, with witnesses telling the Patch that they started running after hearing gunshots.
DailyMail.com reached out to the Long Branch Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office for more information on the suspects' relationships to Whyte and a potential motive.
Roche told local news that his best friend was working at the U.S. Postal Service but was trying to be a full-time TikTok influencer.
Roche set up a GoFundMe for Whyte's family to support costs for the funeral. 'He [Whyte] meant so much to everyone , this tragedy has a huge impact on his family & friends , he was very loved by many and this all still seems like a dream,' the description read.
His last video generated over six million likes and thousands of comments expressing condolences to Whyte's family.
'This is so sad. Sending condolences and praying for his family at this time. Chrys was in my class my very first year of teaching [heart emoji],' one comment read.
'Nothing is more jarring than opening the comments and finding out this is someone's last video of themself, may he rest in peace,' another wrote.
'I love you , my brother since 7th grade , we did everything together , you pushed me to be a better person and get my life on track , im gonna continue to prosper and make you proud,' a third added.
'I can't even believe what I woke up to. u had such a good heart,' wrote a fourth.

Clinic 'offers cosmetic surgery procedures with no medical qualifications'

A woman with allegedly no verified UK medical credentials was caught offering both upper and lower eyelid procedures inside what appeared to be a dingy, non-sterile flat above a restaurant in Liverpool An undercover investigation has exposed the potential dangers of unregulated cosmetic clinics after a TV reporter was offered surgical procedures by a woman with reportedly no recognised medical qualifications in the UK. In the report, 5 News booked an appointment with a woman who allegedly has no verified UK medical credentials. Footage shows the reporter being offered both upper and lower eyelid procedures inside what appeared to be a dingy, non-sterile flat above a restaurant in Liverpool City Centre. The appointment was arranged within minutes via text, according to 5 News. However, the reporter only received the exact location 48 hours before the procedure - a flat where the woman and an assistant appeared ready to carry out the surgeries using local anaesthetic, and accepting only cash. ‌ During the appointment, the woman was reportedly prepared to begin without carrying out basic safety protocols. No medical consultation or patient history was taken, and when questioned about her credentials, she refused to confirm whether she had any. When asked by the reporter whether she was a doctor or how many surgeries she had previously performed, the woman also declined to answer. ‌ 5 News has shown its findings to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who vowed to urgently examine the legal loopholes that allowed unqualified individuals to perform risky surgical procedures that can result in life-changing harm. Responding to the footage, Mr Streeting said: 'This is an extremely concerning case you've raised with me, and I will go away now and look at the laws in place to make sure that we don't have loopholes that enable this kind of unsafe and unregulated practice.' Leading UK eye surgeons warn that when performed incorrectly, eyelid surgery can cause permanent scarring, infection - and even blindness. Despite these risks, it remains legal in the UK for anyone to perform cosmetic surgery, as long as they do not falsely claim to be a registered doctor or surgeon. Campaigners argue that this loophole puts lives in danger and are calling on the Government to take immediate action. One of the procedures on offer - upper blepharoplasty, which involves removing excess eyelid skin to create a more youthful appearance - has surged in popularity due to social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), it's now the UK's third most popular cosmetic procedure and the fastest-growing among women. 5 News has also obtained new data showing a 65% increase in complaints about backstreet surgery over the past year - rising from 404 from 2021–2023, to 667 from 2024–2025.

Airman molested female colleague as she slept as US Air Force base in UK

AN AIRMAN molested a female colleague as she slept at a base. James Loubeau, 37, met his victim and her pal at a bar on RAF Mildenhall — a US Air Force site near Newmarket, Suffolk. After a drinking session in May 2019, a friend took her home and helped her get ready for bed. But the victim then woke at 2.30am to find Loubeau in her bed. The FBI said: 'The victim almost immediately called two friends to say she had been raped. 'Surveillance video captured Loubeau after he left the victim's room.' Loubeau, of Miami, Florida, pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of abusive sexual contact. DNA tests also linked him to the attack. He was this week jailed for five years. A judge in Florida said he must spend another 20 years being supervised by the authorities after his release from prison. 1 Ex-Arsenal star Thomas Partey charged with five counts of rape against two women and sexually assaulting a third

Teenager who stabbed 13-year-old to death handed eight-year minimum term

A youth convicted of stabbing to death a 13-year-old boy during a drug-related row has been handed a life sentence with a minimum term of eight-and-a-half years. The teenager, who cannot be identified after a judge ruled that his welfare and prospects of rehabilitation outweigh the public interest in naming him, was convicted in April by a majority verdict of murdering Jahziah Coke, who suffered a six-inch deep chest wound. Passing sentence at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Mrs Justice Tipples told the defendant that she was sure he had 'intended to kill' Jahziah after pushing or moving a knife around his neck. She told the boy: 'When you killed Jahziah, he was only 13 and a child with everything in life ahead of him. This was a nasty and violent attack.' During her sentencing remarks, the judge accepted that the weapon used in the killing belonged to Jahziah and was taken from him by his killer at an address in Oldbury, West Midlands, in August last year. The defendant, who denied deliberately inflicting any injuries, fled over fences and then caught a bus to a friend's house to play video games in the hours after the killing, his trial heard. He also told the jury during his evidence in March that he was left traumatised after grabbing Jahziah's hands while being threatened with a knife, which he twisted towards the floor during an attempt to calm down an argument about a 'missing' quantity of cannabis. He also told jurors he did not have the knife in his own hands and had dialled 999 to summon paramedics, only leaving the property once he believed Jahziah was dead. During the sentencing hearing on Friday, Mrs Justice Tipples accepted that there was no premeditation, but ruled that the defendant was not acting in self-defence and that his actions were 'completely out of proportion' to the possible threat he faced. Prior to sentence, the defendant's lawyer, Paul Lewis KC, told the court during mitigation: 'The evidence at the trial was that (the defendant) has never had a knife, has never carried a knife and had never been seen with a knife. 'I am sorry to say it but that was not the position vis-a-vis the deceased. 'It was accepted from the very beginning by the Crown that the knife used in this case was not (the defendant's).' In a statement issued following the case, Emily Clewer, a senior crown prosecutor at the West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service, said: 'This is a deeply tragic case where Jahziah Coke lost his life and entire future senselessly to knife violence. 'Jahziah Coke's family and loved ones have suffered unimaginable pain and loss, and our thoughts are with them as they deal with the aftermath of this tragedy. 'The teenager responsible for this murder will now face the consequences of his actions in ways that will irrevocably change the trajectory of his life. 'While today's sentencing cannot undo the awful events that transpired that day, we hope it sends a strong message about the devastating impact of knife crime and how it can destroy lives, families and futures. 'There are no excuses for carrying or using knives to harm and kill, and the CPS will continue to work tirelessly with the police and partners to tackle knife crime and bring offenders to justice.'
