NIA arrests key accused in Praveen Nettaru murder case on his arrival from Qatar
The arrested, identified as Abdul Rahaman, had been absconding for the past two years after Nettaru was hacked to death with sharp weapons by members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), a proscribed outfit, on July 26, 2022, in the Dakshina Kannada district.
Investigations had revealed that Abdul Rahaman had, on the directions of PFI leadership, voluntarily harboured the main assailants and others involved in the case. Rahaman, who carried a reward of Rs 4 lakh, had fled to Qatar after the attackers were arrested.
After Rahaman's arrest, NIA said on Friday, 'The killing was part of a larger conspiracy aimed at striking terror among the people and unleashing communal hatred and unrest in the society.'
The NIA, in April, chargedheeted four accused, including Rahaman, in the murder case, taking the total number of charge-sheeted people to 28.
Six accused in the case had gone into hiding, prompting the Central agency to declare rewards to those providing information on the absconders.
In January, NIA announced the arrest of Ateeq Ahmed, a key accused in the case. According to the agency, Ahmed had under the PFI leadership's guidance harboured and assisted Mustafa Paichar, identified as the chief conspirator in the case.
Ahmed is the 21st accused to be arrested in the case. Paichar had planned and executed Nettaru's murder at Bellare, which was carried out as part of PFI's agenda to instigate communal unrest among people, said the NIA that took over the case from Karnataka Police in August 2022.
Investigations revealed that PFI had formed secret teams called 'PFI Service Teams' or 'Killer Squads' to carry out targeted killings, the agency stated in its initial chargesheet.

Cattle thief caught selling MDMA in Mangaluru
Mangaluru: An alleged cattle thief, who was on the run for nearly two years, was arrested by Mangaluru CCB police on charges of selling MDMA. The accused is Abdul Kabir alias Parivala Kabir, 36, from Kasaba Bengre, Mangaluru. Police seized 12.1 grams of MDMA from his possession. Acting on a tip-off that MDMA was being brought from Bengaluru and Mumbai to Mangaluru and sold to the public and students in a white car near Mudipu Kambala Padavu KIADB Road, CCB police launched an operation on Thursday and intercepted the vehicle while the suspect was attempting to sell the drug. Police recovered MDMA worth Rs 1.2 lakh, a digital weighing scale, a mobile phone, and a car from his possession. The total value of the seized assets is estimated at Rs 4.3 lakh. A case was registered at Konaje police station. The accused, Abdul Kabir, is a habitual offender with over 15 cases of cattle theft registered against him in various police stations, including Panambur, Mangaluru South, Mangaluru North, Mangaluru East, Kankanady Town, Ullal, Bajpe, and Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada district, as well as Madikeri Rural police station in Kodagu district. He obtained bail in many of these cases but was absconding for nearly two years.

Rs 10 lakh postal money robbery case: Employee among four accused, 1 held
1 2 Dibrugarh: Sivasagar police on Friday arrested a suspect and identified three others in a case where Rs 10 lakh was looted from a postal department employee in broad daylight. One of the identified suspects is a postal employee, who allegedly provided crucial information to the perpetrators. The incident occurred on Thursday around 11.45 am, when two assailants on a motorcycle attacked Bipul Dutta at Raichai in Demow, while he was transporting cash from the Head Post Office in Sivasagar to Nitaipukhuri sub-post office. The robbers snatched the money and assaulted Dutta, breaking his teeth. Addressing the media, Sivasagar additional SP (Crime) Moidul Islam said, "The police have cracked the snatching case of Rs 10 lakh from a postal department employee in Sivasagar within 24 hours," Islam said. The swift police response involved a comprehensive investigation that relied heavily on CCTV footage analysis. Through meticulous examination of surveillance cameras, investigators were able to identify and arrest one Tultul Duwari. Duwari's confession proved instrumental in unravelling the entire conspiracy. Biki and Mintu, riding a motorcycle, followed Bipul before launching their attack. CCTV footage revealed that the two perpetrators were seen communicating with the other accused before executing the crime.

Keep dustbins near vends: MC chief tells city vendors
Ludhiana: Taking another initiative to keep the city clean, MC commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal Friday issued an order directing street vendors to ensure dustbins/ garbage receptacles near their vends. The order states that they can face penalties of up to Rs 2,000 if they fail to do so, and if the area around around their vends is littered with waste. An FIR can also be registered against them for repeated violations. The civic body can also seize their material/equipment. Civic teams will create awareness among the street vendors, and if they still fail to comply with the orders, action will be initiated against them under relevant sections of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976; the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The street vendors have been asked to keep separate dustbins/garbage receptacles for dry and wet waste. They should hand over the garbage to garbage collectors or dump the garbage at designated sites (transfer stations) only after closing down their vends at night. Vendors must also refrain from burning waste, spitting, urinating in public spaces, or using banned single-use plastic items at their stalls.
