MoHAP honoured for stimulating healthcare innovation
The honour was in recognition of the ministry's significant role in stimulating healthcare innovation by launching a series of advanced programmes and initiatives aimed at empowering health institutions and partners with innovative tools and methodologies that have led to transformative projects, substantially enhancing the quality of healthcare services in the UAE.
These include among other initiatives, the 'Future Health Innovation Lab.'
The prestigious awards, presented by the Global Innovation Institute (GInI), acknowledge institutions that have made extraordinary contributions to driving innovation in a sustainable and effective manner.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention has proven its excellence through these cutting-edge programmes, setting a high benchmark for innovation in healthcare.
This recognition reaffirms the ministry's commitment to fostering innovation and enhancing development capabilities within the healthcare sector while providing vital support to institutions and healthcare professionals to improve community health and quality of life in the UAE.
'This remarkable achievement reflects the UAE's vision and commitment to innovation,' said Dr Mohammed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
He went on to explain that this success is fully aligned with the directives of the country's wise leadership and the strategic goals set out in the UAE Centennial 2071.
He noted that the ministry prioritises innovation and is committed to adopting the latest advancements in the health sector, in line with the National Strategy for Advanced Innovation, aiming to promote the UAE's position as a global leader in innovation.
Dr Al Olama stressed that the ministry will continue to invest heavily in the future of healthcare through the National Future Forecasting Framework for Healthcare.
This approach combines skilled teams with cutting-edge tech like AI, big data, and global partnerships, ensuring the UAE stays ahead of global trends and leads the transformation of the health sector with forward-thinking solutions that meet the needs of future generations.
He thanked the ministry's teams for their relentless efforts to create an institutional culture that promotes innovation, research, and development, utilising the latest technologies and infrastructure.
The Undersecretary highlighted the importance of this award, especially as it coincides with the UAE's Innovation Month.

Africa must prioritize pharmaceutical self-reliance by boosting local medicine production rooted in global quality standards, said Dr Owen Laws Kaluwa, WHO Representative to Ethiopia, in a keynote address delivered at a regional training workshop on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) held in Addis Ababa. The two-day hands-on workshop, held from 22–23 July 2025, brought together 26 participants from National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) and pharmaceutical manufacturers across seven East African Community (EAC) member states. It was jointly organized by the Local Production and Assistance Unit in WHO Headquarters, the WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO), and the WHO Country Office in Ethiopia, with financial support from The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Designed to strengthen technical capacities in GMP implementation, the training offered a mix of instructional content and case-based learning. Core topics included Quality Management Systems, Quality Risk Management, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), data integrity, validation practices, and management of critical utility systems such as water and HVAC. The approach strengthened practical skills in complying with current WHO GMP standards and fostered active collaboration between regulatory bodies and industry professionals, enhancing mutual understanding and shared responsibility for quality-assured pharmaceutical production. Dr Jicui Dong, Unit Head of the WHO Local Production and Assistance Unit, remarked 'Compliance with current GMP standards needs both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It is encouraging to see the commitment of pharmaceutical manufacturers within this region to invest in workforce development and ensure local production of quality pharmaceuticals.' Opening the workshop, Mr Dejene Daba, Head of the Medicine Manufacturers Inspection and Enforcement Desk at the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA), reaffirmed the agency's commitment to supporting manufacturers and attaining WHO Maturity Level 3 regulatory status—a benchmark for robust regulatory systems. Dr Kaluwa underscored that reliance on imported medicines continues to pose significant health security risks for African countries, particularly in times of global supply chain disruptions. 'Enhancing local pharmaceutical production is not only a strategic health priority but also an economic and political imperative,' he said. The workshop represents a concrete step toward building regional capabilities to meet international manufacturing standards, aligning with broader continental goals such as the African Union and Africa CDC. Among the recipients was Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, which received several truckloads carrying essential medicines and critical delivery aims to boost the hospital's capacity to handle urgent cases at a time when it is facing severe shortages of medicines and Director for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in Gaza, Sharif Al-Nayrab, reaffirmed that the UAE continues to provide medical aid and pharmaceuticals to the Gaza Strip under the initiative to prevent the collapse of the healthcare system and alleviate the suffering of hospitals and medical teams (EMT) coordinator at WHO, Heba Alnajjar, stated that the organisation delivered the shipment to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, containing all essential and currently unavailable medicines in Gaza's health expressed hope for continued cooperation and the entry of more UAE aid to support the health of the Palestinian Aid Delivering Committee at the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Farra, described the UAE's assistance as a 'lifeline' for all patients, noting that the continued supply of medicines and medical equipment revitalises hospitals and helps save the lives of the sick and wounded. Dubai Healthcare City authority organises organ donation awareness symposium in collaboration with MoHAP
Symposium supports the national 'Hayat' programme and brings together leading experts from the organ donation and transplantation society Dubai, UAE: In recognition of World Organ Donation Day, Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), the governing body of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), organised an awareness symposium in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) to highlight the importance of organ donation and support the National Programme for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation - Hayat. Held at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre in DHCC, the symposium was part of the 'Donate for Life' campaign, reflecting DHCC's commitment to raising awareness, encouraging social compassion, and fostering a culture of solidarity. The initiative also aligned with MoHAP's nationwide awareness campaign to mark World Organ Donation Day, observed annually on 13 August. It reinforced the value of MoHAP's Hayat programme, advancing the UAE's efforts to promote altruism and save lives through organ and tissue donation. Issam Galadari, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), said: "As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting national healthcare priorities and enabling constructive dialogue around high-impact medical initiatives, we are proud to join efforts with the Ministry of Health and Prevention to raise awareness of organ donation. DHCC has played a key role in the UAE's organ donation journey. In 2015, DHCC hosted the inaugural UAE Organ Donation Forum, which served as a platform for regional and international experts to exchange knowledge and establish frameworks for national cooperation. Less than a year later, in June 2016, DHCC's ecosystem witnessed the first-ever kidney transplant in Dubai, carried out at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences in partnership with Mediclinic City Hospital, one of DHCA's key strategic partners. Since then, DHCC has continued to lead on this front through initiatives such as the 'Live Saver Season: Be a Donor' campaign. Additionally, DHCC remains committed to enhancing its healthcare ecosystem to support organ transplantation services and partnerships.
