Five, including Nigerian nationals, held in Hyderabad drug bust
The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) and Golconda police arrested five drug peddlers, including two Nigerian nationals, and seized cocaine, ecstasy pills, and MDMA on Friday (June 13).
The raid at a residence in Vinayak Nagar, Shaikpet, yielded 20 grams of cocaine, 45 grams of MDMA, 20 grams of ecstasy pills, ₹40,000 in cash and six mobile phones, Director of TGANB Sandeep Shandilya said.
The arrested have been identified as 38-yearr-old Okoro Cosmos Ramsey and 44-year-old Chimezie Boniface Adikea, both Nigerian nationals residing in Hyderabad, 29-year-old Veerapalli Lakshmipathi, a native of Nalgonda, 40-year-old Romi Bharat Kalyani, from Goa and 26-year-old Abdul Jafar Khan alias Sharukh, of Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka.
'All five had earlier served time in Chanchalguda Central Prison, where they met and forged links in a shared barrack. Upon their release, they resumed drug trafficking by leveraging contacts across Mumbai, Goa and Bengaluru,' said the officer.
He further explained that Cosmos and Adikea sourced cocaine and MDMA from a supplier named James in Mumbai and sold it to peddlers, including Lakshmipathi. 'Lakshmipathi, meanwhile, maintained ties with a broad network of dealers operating in Goa, Bengaluru, and Secunderabad, procuring various synthetic and chemical drugs such as OG weed, cocaine and MDMA,' Mr Shandilya added.
The crackdown followed a tip-off that Lakshmipathi was headed to Cosmos's residence to collect cocaine and MDMA. Romi, who had travelled from Bengaluru with ecstasy pills and Jafar Khan, who also supplied drugs, were present when the police raided the premises.
All five are reportedly part of a distribution chain catering to more than 25 consumers in Hyderabad. Notably, several of the accused are repeat offenders, with Cosmos linked to three NDPS Act cases, Lakshmipathi to eight, Romi to three, and both Jafar Khan and Adikea to two cases each.
The authorities have urged the public to report drug-related activities through the helpline 1908 or via email at tsnabho-hyd@tspolice.gov.in. Informant details, they assured, will remain confidential and credible leads will be rewarded.

Nigerian woman on student visa arrested in Bengaluru with Rs 10-crore worth MDMA crystals
In a major drug bust in Bengaluru, the Anti-Narcotics wing of the city's Central Crime Branch arrested a 25-year-old woman from Nigeria on June 10 with Rs 10-crore worth of MDMA crystals concealed in a women's wear consignment that she was carrying. The 25-year-old has been identified as Akinwunmi Princess Ifeoluwa who arrived in India on a student visa and was residing at Uttam Nagar in New Delhi. The woman was arrested from the Tarahunise village on the Rajanakunte Main Road of the Chikkajala police limits on a tip-off provided by informants that a foreigner was going to deliver a consignment of MDMA in Bengaluru. The police have reported finding 5.32 kg of MDMA crystals, an Apple mobile phone, and a consignment of new churidar dress pieces from the possession of the woman. 'The offender is a foreigner who landed in Delhi a few years ago,' the Bengaluru police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said. 'The information provided by informants stated that a foreigner was illegally earning money by selling prohibited drugs,' the Bengaluru police said in a statement on Friday. Ifeoluwa has stated that she came to New Delhi on October 4, 2021, on a student visa to study at the Chaitanya Deemed University in Telangana, but did not enroll at the college. Instead, she said she moved to New Delhi to work as a stylist doing hair braiding and pedicures. She claimed to have met a woman called Asa who assigned her the task of transporting the contraband to Bengaluru. 'She had hidden MDMA crystals in a consignment containing new dress piece materials that were allegedly packed by her acquaintance and transported from Delhi to Bangalore by bus,' the police said. The woman has claimed that she was delivering the drugs to a dealer in Bengaluru. The police are yet to arrest the receiver of the consignment. The Nigerian woman claimed that she started peddling drugs after interactions with Nigerian acquaintances living in Delhi. The woman has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 and the Foreigners Act of 1946.

All five accused were previously lodged in Chanchalguda jail in the same barrack, where they became friends and exchanged phone numbers. After their release, Ramsey moved to Golconda, where Adikea later joined him. The duo began procuring cocaine and MDMA from a Mumbai-based supplier named James, and sold it to Lakshmipathi and other peddlers. Lakshmipathi frequently travels to Goa and Bengaluru with a friend, where he established contacts with several drug suppliers. He reportedly procured cocaine, MDMA and OG weed from persons, including Jack, Romi Bharat Kalyan, Mahesh, Susheel and Abdul Jafar Khan alias Sharukh. Jafar Khan also helped him procure MDMA from a person named Haleem in Bengaluru. Police said the five-member gang has been supplying drugs to more than 25 persons in Hyderabad.

Bengaluru traffic updates: Benniganahalli to Kasturi Nagar road closed for three months
Commuters travelling through East Bengaluru should brace for major traffic diversions starting June 14, as the city traffic police have announced a 90-day restriction due to ongoing railway bridge work near KR Pura. According to an advisory issued by the Bengaluru Traffic Police, vehicular movement will be prohibited on the Coca Cola Godown Road, specifically from Benniganahalli (Sadanandanagar Bridge) to Old Madras Road, to facilitate construction by the Railway Department. The restricted area falls under the jurisdiction of the KR Pura Traffic Police Station. Vehicles travelling from Kasturinagar to Old Madras Road can use the Sadanandanagar route via NGEF Signal. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic East), Sahil Bagla, has urged citizens to cooperate with the diversions and follow signage and instructions from traffic personnel during the period of restriction.
