AFL: Danny Daly a potential Demons target
Daly has recently been touted as Fagan's eventual successor at Brisbane, having long been considered an AFL senior coach-in-waiting during an extensive career that has included previous roles Collingwood, North Melbourne and Richmond.
However, the Lions might have a fight on their hands to hold on to Daly, with his name being touted as a potential permanent replaced for sacked Demons coach Simon Goodwin.

'I know we wouldn't like to lose him, that's for sure, but if it was for something like that, I'd be chairing him out of the place and saying `good luck and go well',' Fagan said on Friday.
'He's been a fantastic help to me from the day I arrived here at this football club, and we're like brothers I reckon.
'We talk a lot about football, and I know he's got that capacity inside him to (be an AFL senior coach) if that's what he wants to do.
'That's completely up to Danny, and others who make those sorts of decisions.'
Daly replaced David Noble as Brisbane's head of football in November 2020 having previously been the Lions' strategy coach.
Noble left Brisbane to become North Melbourne's senior coach, a position he held until July 2022 when he was sacked by the Kangaroos after 38 games at the helm.

Manchester United signed Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko on Saturday, the third forward the 20-time English champions have acquired in the close season. The 22-year-old's arrival from RB Leipzig, in a deal reported to be worth up to £74 million (85 million euros, $99 million), completes an overhaul of the Red Devils' attack that failed to fire last season. "Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Benjamin Sesko has joined the club, subject to registration," read a club statement. The five-year contract includes a guaranteed payment of £66.3million, with the remainder in add-ons, according to reports. Sesko, though, said he felt a vibrancy round the club as they seek to rebound from a desperately disappointing 2024-2025 campaign. Hobby trainer John Dann savours last-to-first Townsville Cup triumph
Toowoomba hobby trainer John Dann produced a Queensland winter carnival wonder and ventured further north to be the king of Townsville on Saturday. Dann's gelding Quothquan stormed home from last to produce a monster win in the $150,000 Townsville Cup, scoring revenge after having a luckless run in the Mackay Cup a fortnight earlier. Quothquan had been trapped wide in the Mackay Cup and Dann feared the six-year-old might have his work cut out again in the Townsville Cup from a double-digit barrier. Former Kiwi hoop Dylan Turner had Quothquan back last, but some of his rivals were speeding along up front and it gave him his chance to swoop over the top of them. Dann only has a handful of horses and he juggles that with operating a successful truck repair and services company which has 100 employees. He has enjoyed a year to remember with his horses, having fairytale mare Adiella score the $500,000 Magic Millions National Classic at Eagle Farm during the winter carnival. Adiella then had a major setback and is now recovering from a nasty staph infection and she will not be seen again at the races until next year. But Quothquan's dominant two-length Townsville Cup romp put a wide smile on Dann's face. 'It wasn't our plan to be that far back,' Dann said. 'But they were cracking along up front and going fast and when he was that far off them, it probably suited him. 'Dylan let him slide and he was doing it under his own steam and he won easily. 'I got Dylan to ride because he has the same manager as Cobi Vitler who I use a bit. 'He rode the horse really well and it was a terrific result for us.' In the Magic Millions Townsville Guineas QTIS 4YO Handicap (1609m), Smart Mission was strongly backed to be $3.40 favourite but threw it all away at the start when he tried to buck jump. Jockey Lacey Morrison was lucky to stay in the saddle and somehow managed to settle the gelding back in the field but was left with far too much work to do to be a factor in the final stages. Meanwhile, Mackay galloper Obligated ($9.50) unleashed a powerful run in the straight and won easily under jockey Ash Butler. Lyle Wright-trained Obligated had made his name winning over nippy sprint trips, but found the mile of the Guineas was no issue. In the sprint feature, the $100,000 Cleveland Bay, Speed Legend left it until the final strides to get home over the top of Cherry Rose as two of the favoured runners fought out the finish.

Oakleigh Plate winner Queman digs deep for comeback win in Group 3 Behemoth Stakes win
A lion-hearted Queman scored a remarkable win in Saturday's Group 3 Behemoth Stokes, as Shane and Cassie Oxlade pulled off an outstanding training performance at Morphettville. The Group 1-winning Queman hadn't raced for 468 days due to a sesamoid injury prior to Saturday's first-up test, but dug deep to fend off a determined Recommendation, holding on by a neck. Emotional spilt over in the Morphettville mounting yard post-race, there were hugs and cheers, as nearly 16 months worth of patience paid off. 'I'm pretty proud of the horse to be honest. 1200m. I was worried, because he just likes to get up and get going,' Shane Oxlade said. 'Any other horse, (they) would've done more than enough (work) to run 1200m, we've had four jumpouts and trials, but I just thought he might get up trucking. 'But he settled beautiful in front, I said to Connor (Murtagh), 'don't chase him out of the gates, just leave him alone, he'll get up and get travelling'. 'He looked vulnerable but, geez, he's a tough bugger. It's been a long time, 69 weeks, he's been in work a long time, I'm just proud of the horse. 'Cass, Lauren (Stojakovic), big shout out to Lauren, she does all the work and she knows him better than anyone, when she comes back and says everything's fine – you're pretty happy.' While a Behemoth win isn't as notable as that Group 1 triumph, the tough road travelled to get there made it almost as significant. 'You win a Group 1, you win any race, it's great,' he said. 'To bring him back after 69 weeks, back at home, to do that at 1200m, out of his comfort zone first-up … I'm pretty rapt to be honest.' Oxlade credited the unwavering patience of owner-breeder Francis 'Boof' Smith, while Queman's 10th career win, which takes him over $1m in prizemoney, was the biggest win of jockey Connor Murtagh's career. 'That's my first Group winner, to get a ride on a Group 1 winner coming into a race like this is absolutely brilliant,' Murtagh said. 'Absolutely full credit to the team back there, they got him so ready for today first-up, 1200m isn't really his trip, going back through his form. 'I didn't expect to get it my own way so softly on the front end, I thought he'd be a bit keener to be honest, but he sat lovely for me and stuck his neck out when I needed him to.' Queman's win capped a double for the Oxlade's, who also saluted with talented gelding Captain Happy in a Benchmark 66 (1050m). Returning hoop Kayla Crowther is also back on the winner's list, the gun hoop returned to race riding last Saturday after a fractured shoulder kept her out of the saddle since April. Crowther piloted Clarence to victory in a Benchmark 66 (1200m) which capped a training treble for Will Clarken, who has started the new racing season with a bang. Jason Holder and Rochelle Milnes shared riding honours on Morphettville's nine-race card with a double each. Holder's win aboard Nostryia in the last race handed Kate Halliday her first winner as a trainer, who has taken over from her father, David, who trained 360 winners across his career.
