Seaplane flights from Tacoma's Ruston Way will go international this year.
Kenmore Air and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians announced Thursday their seasonal seaplane flight service would add Victoria, British Columbia's Inner Harbour as a destination.
The service will run from May 15 through Sept. 15.
The entities, in a news release, said the flight will depart daily from Tacoma at 2:45 p.m. for an approximately one-hour flight to Friday Harbor Marina. After a 30-minute stopover, the flight will continue for a 20-minute trip to Victoria's Inner Harbour.
Total flight time is just under 2 hours.
'In addition to the Victoria route, May 15 will mark the return of Kenmore Air's seasonal seaplane service between Tacoma and the San Juan Islands with direct service to Friday Harbor Marina and stopover service to Roche Harbor,' the release noted, as well as a variety of locations on Orcas Island and Lopez Island.
Prices start at $199 per person, one-way for the Victoria and San Juan Islands flights.
Shorter flights also are available, with a 25-minute South Sound Scenic Flight tour for just $99 per person.
'We are thrilled to expand our partnership with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, offering an exciting new route for travelers looking for a quick and scenic escape to Victoria,' said David Gudgel, president of Kenmore Air in a statement. 'This partnership continues to demonstrate our commitment to providing South Sound residents with the fastest, most convenient, and most beautiful way to travel to Victoria ... .'
The Puyallup Tribal Council, in a statement, said that with the expansion, 'The Puyallup Tribe is growing on the international stage.'
The council added, 'This extension of Kenmore Air's seaplane service reflects our ongoing commitment to providing accessible, efficient, and scenic travel options that connect our residents with the wider Pacific Northwest region and beyond.'
The Tacoma Ruston Way terminal is next to the Tribe-owned Woven restaurant, which opened last summer.
Kenmore Air and the Tribe announced their partnership and first flights in May 2022 and added new flights last year.

Charlotte drops Tesla from approved city vehicle list, alleging safety issues

Charlotte City Council in North Carolina voted Monday to remove Tesla from its list of approved vehicle manufacturers for municipal use, with one supportive member citing alleged 'safety issues.' Councilwoman LaWana Mayfield, who led the effort, has favored such a move for weeks, according to WCNC. The 11-member board with nine Democrats voted 6-3 in favor of removing the Elon Musk-owned company from the list of more than a dozen approved vendors as the city seeks to purchase 45 electric vehicles. 'When we are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and putting our employees out in these vehicles, and we are using tax dollars to do it, we also have the opportunity to think about the investments we are making on behalf of our citizens,' Mayfield said, according to the outlet. 3 The 11-member board with nine Democrats voted 6-3 in favor of removing the Elon Musk-owned company from the list. AP 'So, it is not just the particular owner of this product. It is the fact that this product has been in multiple lawsuits because of safety issues, and there are multiple concerns.' However, one of the no votes, Republican Ed Driggs, told WFAE the removal of Tesla in the current environment sets a dangerous precedent 'if we have reasons that aren't related to the cost and the performance of purchased items for excluding them.' 3 Republican Ed Driggs told WFAE the removal of Tesla in the current environment sets a dangerous precedent. REUTERS 'We already have Teslas in the fleet,' Driggs said, and consumer data shows Teslas to be largely safer than other vehicles when it comes to safety recalls, according to multiple reports. Other vendors remaining on the list include local Chevrolet and Ford dealers, Alamo Rent-A-Car and Hyundai's construction implementation sector. Democrat Dimple Ajmera joined Driggs and Republican Edwin Peacock in opposing the move. 3 Consumer data shows Teslas to be largely safer than other vehicles when it comes to safety recalls. AP Democrats Dante Anderson, Malcolm Gaham, Victoria Watlington, Tiawana Brown and Renee Johnson sided with Mayfield. US pending home sales rise more than expected in May

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Contracts to buy previously owned U.S. homes increased more than expected in May, but higher mortgage rates remain a constraint for buyers. The National Association of Realtors said on Thursday its Pending Home Sales Index, based on signed contracts, increased 1.8% to 72.6 last month. Sales rose in all four regions. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast contracts, which become sales after a month or two, would edge up 0.1%. Pending home sales advanced 1.1% from a year earlier. "Consistent job gains and rising wages are modestly helping the housing market, said Lawrence Yun, the NAR's chief economist. "However, mortgage rate fluctuations are the primary driver of homebuying decisions and impact housing affordability more than wage gains." H&M sees summer shopping pick-up after weaker-than-expected quarterly sales

Swedish clothing giant H&M on Thursday reported weaker-than-expected sales in the fiscal second quarter but pointed to an uptick in demand to kick-start the summer season. Revenues at the world's second-largest clothing retailer dipped year-on-year to 56.71 billion Swedish krona ($5.99 billion) in the three-month period to May. 31, slightly below the 57.01 billion Swedish krona forecast by LSEG analysts. Operating profit totaled 5.9 billion Swedish krona over the quarter, in line with expectations. The company said, however, that sales in June were expected to increase 3% in local currencies as demand shows signs of picking up over the summer months. The fashion retailer previously reported a slow start to the year, but pointed to an annual uptick in sales in March. H&M has faced several consecutive quarters of soft sales, as it has struggled to close a widening gap with Inditex-owned rival Zara and fend off increased competition from lower-cost retailers, such as Shein and Temu. U.S. tariffs and weak consumer confidence have nevertheless become a drag for the retail sector more widely, with Inditex earlier this month posting weaker-than-expected quarterly sales and a slower start to the summer amid broad economic uncertainty. Retail and consumer goods emerged as the most distressed sector in Europe, according to a new report from law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, which cited tight credit conditions, cost inflation and weaker consumer demand among pressures on the industry.
