Harvard-bound star leads Garden City to back-to-back Woodstick Classic titles over Manhasset
Call it the Ottomanelli empire.
Garden City lacrosse standout midfielder Tori Ottomanelli has played a crucial role in securing the coveted Woodstick Classic title against arch rival Manhasset in back-to-back seasons.
'The tradition of this game is just something that we look forward to every year,' Ottomanelli, a senior midfielder who will play at Harvard next year, told The Post.

Last year, she netted the 9-8 overtime winner — which came with more 'relief' than celebration, she said — and put away four goals to help put GC over the top, 12-5.
As if her final Woodstick Classic wasn't enough hype, it also landed on Ottomanelli's 18th birthday. She said the win was 'the best gift' she could have gotten with the 13-2 squad.
'We were constantly pushing each other, getting better and better, and being super excited, amped up to play in this one … especially for me since it was my last.'

The storied LI lacrosse rivalry has her ready to take on the Ivy League.
'Everyone is just super talented,' Ottomanelli said. 'When you surround yourself with people who have so much talent, also just such great personality, it makes you better on and off the field.'

Girls softball features a high-octane clash as 13-4 Port Washington, which had a seven-game winning streak earlier in the year, faces a strong 11-3 East Rockaway, which enjoyed its own eight-game heater this season, Saturday at 6 p.m.
In baseball, the streaks run similarly as Riverhead, 12-4 as of Thursday morning, has won its last 10 and looks to stay strong against 6-7 William Floyd on the road at 4 p.m. Friday.

Former Nebraska kicker transfers to Sam Houston State for 2025 season A former Nebraska kicker has found his new home. Nico Ottomanelli will kick for Sam Houston State in 2025. Ottomanelli was a member of the Huskers' 2024 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 1 kicker in the state of New Jersey that year, playing for Northern Valley Regional High School. He was 14-of-17 on field goals in his prep career. As a senior, he was 6-of-8 field goals with 48 extra points. In his junior season, Ottomanelli was 4-of-5 on field goals with a long of 46 yards. The New Jersey native was a redshirt this past season and did not appear in a game. The Huskers are now left with two kickers on their roster. Sophomores Tristan Alvano and John Hohl will battle for the starting job this fall. Nebraska struggled last season in kicking, with Hohl and Alvano finishing 13-of-19 field goals. Ottomanelli will have four years of eligibility remaining. 'I played six or seven tournaments, and in all of them I won only like one or two rounds against, like, lower-rated opponents,' he told The Post. 'I was playing almost every day of the week, and I was just not getting far.' Advertisement Rather than giving up, however, Golubenko, originally of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, doubled down to sharpen his game. Chaminade, which beat St. Anthony's 11-10 in the regular season, took a 10-6 lead into the half, but a 7-1 third-quarter run by the Friars put it out of reach.
