Trapped driver rescued after lorry plunges into canal in Cheshire
A driver has been rescued from a canal by firefighters using an inflatable raft after a heavy goods vehicle plunged into the water.Emergency services were called to the Trent and Mersey Canal on Booth Lane in Middlewich at 07:00 BST, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said.They used the raft to rescue the trapped driver, who was not thought to be seriously hurt, from the cab of the half-submerged lorry, the service said.Efforts are now underway to remove the vehicle from the canal.
Booth Lane has been closed and drivers have been asked to avoid the area, a fire service spokesman said.

Buying What should I be paying? Prices start from £46,200 for the entry-level 2WD Edition 85, rising to £50,650 for the 4WD 85x SportLine and £53,560 for the vRS. Yeah, Skoda operates north of fifty grand now and has done for a while. On lease, you're looking at around £445 for the 85-badged car and £505 for the 85x, on a four-year agreement with a £10k deposit through Skoda's own finance scheme. Shop around and you might do better. Like-for-like, you're looking at a premium of about £2k for that fashion statement roofline. In terms of its VW Group rivals, the VW ID.5 also gets a smaller battery option meaning it starts significantly cheaper. Like-for-like it's a couple of hundred quid cheaper too. Skoda's latest wheeze is that you can pick your specification and then you have a choice of optional 'Lounge trims' to upgrade the inside of the car (apart from on the SportLine model). There are various other extras you can go for, though it's a bit strange that a heat pump is another £1,100 on a car this expensive. Adaptive dampers too are a pricey option (£1,700-£3,950). Avoid. What's the best spec? The entry-level single motor Edition 85 is the pick of the bunch here, thanks to its price, perfectly adequate performance figures, and superior range (365 miles). But unless you're truly hankering after that coupe shape, don't bother and stick with the regular SUV. Final thing: the warranty is three years/60,000 miles and the battery eight years/100,000 miles. That's a bit stingy when you think Kia and Hyundai have been offering seven years for yonks...

Man and woman die in crash on A18 in North Lincolnshire
A man and woman have died in a car crash on the A18 in North Lincolnshire.A silver Ford Fusion was travelling eastbound towards Melton Ross when it was believed to have been in a collision with a blue Saab at about 17:45 BST on driver and passenger of the Ford, an 86-year-old man and 72-year-old woman, died at the driver and passenger of the Saab were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
