Ford Motor Company reported a 16% sales increase to 220,959 in May year-over-year, with positive gains at both Ford and Lincoln. Hybrid vehicles led the way with a 28.9% sales increase, totaling 22,719 units, with internal combustion engine sales up 17.2% to 191,517 units. In terms of segments, Ford's SUV sales saw the most significant gain at 25% to 94,595 units. Truck sales followed behind the SUV uptick at an 11.2% increase to 121,354 units. However, Ford Motor Company's electric vehicle (EV) sales plummeted 25% in May to 6,723 units. The car class saw a less dramatic decrease of 3.2% to 5,010 units, according to Ford Authority.
Ford's new American Made campaign, centered around offering employee pricing, appears to primarily be fueling the company's overall sales gain as drivers strive to get ahead of tariff-imposed vehicle cost increases. Lincoln reported a 39% increase in May sales, and Ford Motor Company's total sales are up 6.1% to 930,925 vehicles compared to the first five months of 2024.
The 2025 Escape was one of Ford's best-sellers in May, with sales catapulting 24% to 17,395 units. Ford's 2024 Explorer saw a 23% sales increase to 20,504 vehicles. Bronco Sport sales rose 46% to 14,472 units, and the Maverick saw a 14% gain to 15,508 deliveries. Financial analyst Dan Ives, managing director at Wedbush Securities, said 'the monthly sales were better than feared and is a small step in the right direction,' but added that there's 'still a lot of wood to chop ahead for (CEO) Jim Farley and Ford with tariffs and demand issues,' the Detroit Free Press reports. While Ford Motor Company extended its employee pricing marketing to July 6, which affects nearly all 2024 and 2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, the American automaker announced price hikes up to $2,000 last month on three of its Mexico-produced models: the Mach-E SUV, Maverick pickup, and Bronco Sport SUV.
May represented the third consecutive year-over-year double-digit sales increase at Ford. Cox Automotive expects May sales across all automakers to rise 3.2% from last year and 2.5% from last month, but the month's sales pace will be significantly less than March and April, according to NBC. Besides weak May EV sales numbers, Ford has issued over 50 U.S. recalls in 2025, the most of any automaker. Through May 15, Volkswagen Group had issued the second-most recalls at 14. While EV sales were one of May's lowlights at Ford, the company's Mustang Mach-E experienced an 11% year-over-year sales surge to 4,724 units. Ford Motor Company stock finished at a 2.10% daily market increase and 5.6% year-over-year growth on Tuesday.
With its third consecutive year-over-year double-digit sales increase and a 16% year-over-year sales increase for May, Ford has momentum that's crucial to the company mitigating trade war-related impacts, including $1.5 billion in added net costs for 2025. Ford Chair John Lawler said the automaker will adjust operations over the next 12 to 24 months in response to tariffs, but as of now, weak EV sales and regular recalls aren't significantly hurting the company's standing.

Ford Bronco Driver Goes Through Car Wash. Then She Forgets To Push This Little-Used Button

This Ford Bronco Sport owner revealed how not pressing a simple button on her car could have caused major damage at the carwash. Things could have gone very badly. Thankfully, a kind stranger saved her from potential disaster. Here's what you need to know to avoid accidentally damaging your Ford Bronco at the car wash. What Are the Right Settings for a Ford Bronco Sport at the Car Wash? In a trending video with more than 214,000 views, content creator Victoria (@visunderhiseye) explains that she got her 2021 Ford Bronco Sport a month ago and didn't know she needed to do this at the carwash. 'If you have a Bronco Sport, make sure you press this button off when you go through a car wash,' Victoria warns in the text overlay. 'Make sure to take that off. Take it off!' she urges while pointing to the auto-hold button. Victoria explains in the caption that her local car wash didn't know that the button causes the car to remain stationary even when in neutral. In her case the car kept getting pushed over the wash's hump but not moving anymore. Despite the entire car wash crew coming out to try and help, it wasn't until one of the managers came out that they were able to fix it. They pressed the button and the Ford proceeded through the carwash without any further issues. 'Seriously, though, please press this button off when you're going through a carwash!' Victoria said in the caption. Trending Now The Ford Bronco Raptor Just Got a Huge Price Cut 'Why I Hate New Cars': Man Tries to Replace a Headlight Bulb on His 2022 Toyota Corolla. Then He Learns Something Unexpected What Is the Auto-Hold Button and What Is It For? The auto-hold button, which appears to have a hand facing out in a 'stop' motion (on other vehicles, it simply says 'auto hold'), is often located under or near the parking button. Auto hold is designed to keep your car stationary even after you take your foot off the brake, according to Ford. This is a great feature for when you're in stop-and-go traffic or on a hill. But if you don't know that it's on (or forget to turn it off), it can cause problems in situations where your car needs to roll freely, like in an automatic carwash. What Happens if You Leave the Auto-Hold on at a Car Wash? When auto-hold is active, your car's brakes remain engaged after you come to a full stop, even if you're in neutral (like you need to be at the carwash). If you enter the carwash with it on the conveyor belt, it may push your car forward, but the auto hold would fight the motion by keeping the brakes locked. Having auto-hold on in the car wash could cause your car to jerk suddenly or even activate the emergency brake, potentially causing damage, so make sure you turn it off when it's your turn at the wash. The 2025 F-150 is the second truck to get Ford's new Lobo badge, following the aggressive little 2025 Maverick Lobo that's in dealerships now. Don't be surprised to see Ford apply the lowered and menacing Lobo approach to other trucks and SUVs in its lineup. 2025 Ford F-150 Lobo First Look: BYO Performance Mods

Ford has added a new Lobo trim package for the 2025 F-150 that pays homage to street culture and will be on sale this fall. If the Lobo name sounds familiar, that's because it is the name assigned the F-150 in Mexico—and recently given to a similar Lobo sport-truck variant of the 2025 Ford Maverick compact pickup that went on sale earlier this year. While the Maverick Lobo is a more autocross-oriented performance truck, the F-150 Lobo is designed to be a tough street truck with a more aggressive appearance, not necessarily more general athleticism. Ford introduces the 2025 F-150 Lobo, a street truck variant of the F-150 STX with a 400-hp V-8, aggressive styling, and a lowered rear. Inspired by street culture, it features gloss black accents, unique 22-inch wheels, and a nod to aftermarket customization. Available this fall for $59,995. This summary was generated by AI using content from this MotorTrend article Read Next Ford has been paying attention to the growing street culture trend, watching what buyers are doing to their trucks, says F-150 marketing manager Jeff Schulz. The trend is evident in the customized trucks showing up at customer research events and on chatrooms and websites. Many of these customer trucks have been lowered, wear ground effects, and see upgrades to their powertrains. Lobo is an F-150 STX With a Little Somethin' Somethin' For the F-150 Lobo, the focus is on bold styling and V-8 power. The Lobo starts out as an F-150 STX SuperCrew with the 400-hp, 410-lb-ft 5.0-liter V-8 engine and the same interior. The $4,695 Lobo package of upgrades focuses on the suspension; the rear of the truck has been lowered by 2 inches for an athletic stance, says lead exterior designer Josh Blundo. Blondo is a street truck guy. His daily driver is an axle-flip, V-8 single cab short bed F-150. In his free time, he is building a 1995 Ranger drift truck. 'I definitely live this culture.' 'Our F-150 customers, they've been building street trucks. This platform, especially the V-8 4x4, has become an absolute superstar in that scene,' Blundo says. Credit its V-8 power and sound, 4x4 capability, and the switch to a lighter aluminum body in 2015 that cut 700 pounds in weight, boosting performance and creating a more athletic vehicle. 'What this customer has always desired is some factory imagery that matched the menace of those street car builds,' Blundo says. And a huge bonus: a factory warranty. Gotta Look the Part Street truck culture is about styling as well as performance. In addition to lowering the rear end, the Lobo wears a 10-piece body kit. For a more sinister face, there is a wide, gloss black mesh lower grille and unique upper grille with the same white signature lighting hat used on the Maverick Lobo, giving them the same character when viewed at night. The F-150 and Maverick Lobos have some familial similarities but were executed differently. In keeping with street culture, body color and chrome have been replaced with gloss black panels and accents, including the hood vents and dual exhaust. The truck rides on unique 22-inch gloss black wheels. Ford removed badging from the tailgate because street truck customers so often badge delete so it was a nod to them in their desire for a clean aesthetic. And no, there is no wolf (Lobo is Spanish for "wolf") badge, only the wordmark on the fender trim. 'Every piece of it was looked at from the mindset of street car users and enthusiasts,' Blundo says. Upgrades From More Expensive Trim Levels The Lobo package adopts features normally found on higher trim levels. That includes an upgraded two-speed automatic four-wheel-drive system, the cowl hood from the Tremor, and the taillights from other trims. In tweaking the Lobo, Ford kept the aftermarket in mind to make the truck easier to modify for those who want to do so. The dual exhaust is easy to take off and the lower grille on the front end is open for aftermarket cooling needs. There won't be Ford Performance parts specific to the Lobo, but many of the existing parts will work on the truck. The 2025 F-150 Lobo is being offered with five exterior colors, which is fewer than the regular STX, but one more than the Maverick Lobo. Both Lobos comes in white, gray, blue and black. The F-150 adds Rapid Red, from a history of red F-150 street trucks. Basically, the $59,995 F-150 Lobo gives you a well-equipped and mean-looking full-size street truck. Assembled at the Dearborn Truck Plant, it will be available this fall. It is an exciting first entry and the return of the V-8 street truck after two decades, Blundo says.
