Plattsburgh man sentenced 50 years for murdering, dismembering two women

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) – The Plattsburgh man who previously pleaded guilty to murdering two New York women, a mother and daughter, will face over 50 years imprisonment. ABC22/FOX44's Matt Lawfer was in the courtroom for the sentencing of James Hewett, who reportedly did not talk throughout the proceedings. Hewett was initially charged back in December. Police investigating a fire at the Abenaki Mobile Home Park found the remains of daughter Miranda Wade, 42, and mother Karen Lindsay, 64. Authorities confirmed that Hewett had killed them, dismembered them with a chainsaw, placed their remains in garbage bags and set their home on fire to hide evidence. Hewett previously plead guilty to two second degree murder charges, one arson charge and two concealment of a corpse charges in March. As of June 12, he will face 25 years to life for each murder, in two consecutive terms. Hewett also received 7-15 years for arson, and 2-4 years per concealment charge, both of which will run concurrently with the murder sentences.
