IndianOil finalises India's largest Green Hydrogen project at Panipat
In a major step towards promoting clean energy in India,
IndianOil
has finalised the Levelized Cost of
Hydrogen
(LCOH) for setting up a 10,000 Tonnes Per Annum
Green Hydrogen
Generation Unit at its Panipat Refinery & Petrochemical Complex.
This project marks IndianOil's entry into the green hydrogen sector and will be the largest green hydrogen initiative in India to date.
The company in a statement on Friday, stated that "Slated for commissioning by December 2027, the Green Hydrogen produced will replace fossil-derived Hydrogen in refinery operations, resulting in substantial reduction in Carbon emissions".
The plant is expected to be commissioned by December 2027. The green hydrogen produced at this facility will replace the fossil-fuel-based hydrogen currently used in the refinery's operations.
This transition is expected to significantly cut down carbon emissions, helping IndianOil move towards a more sustainable and environment-friendly model.
The company also added that this initiative is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and forms a critical part of IndianOil's larger decarbonization strategy.
The project also supports the company's Net Zero target and demonstrates its commitment to leading India's shift towards a cleaner and greener energy future.

, Chairman of IOC, during an exclusive conversation with at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland, stated that the plant, with a production capacity of 10,000 tons per annum, had made substantial progress.
"Green hydrogen plant is now alive. We have got very good bids for it. And now the tenders are under evaluation. And within a month or so, we will be able to award the job, and within two years, that green hydrogen, the 10,000 tons per annum plant at Panipat (Haryana) will be commissioned" he said.
The plant aims to bolster India's green energy mission, contributing to a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
With this landmark project, IndianOil further strengthens its leadership in the country's energy transformation journey.

The hearings for the IIAS presidency were held in February 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Four nations — India, South Africa, Austria and Bahrain — submitted their nominations for the IIAS presidency for the period 2025-2028 and participated in the hearings before the Council of Administration of IIAS, which were held on the sidelines of the Annual IIAS Conference 2025. Following the hearings, the candidacy of India, South Africa and Austria was forwarded to the General Body of IIAS for the next round by the Council of Administration, according to the statement issued by the Personnel Ministry. South Africa withdrew its candidacy in May 2025. The election was held between India and Austria on June 3. Of 141 votes polled, India got 87 votes (61.7 per cent of total), and Austria registered 54 votes, the statement said, adding that 'India's candidacy received widespread support from across the membership'. This is the first time in the 100 years history of IIAS that the election to the post of president was held by ballot process and it is the first time that India has secured the 'historic mandate' for the presidency of the IIAS, the statement said. In his acceptance speech delivered via video conferencing on Tuesday, Srinivas said the country's presidency will be an inclusive one which will seek to bridge the north-south divide. 'India's administration works under the policy 'maximum governance – minimum government' under which we pursue next-generation administrative reforms using technology to bring citizens and government closer. Contemporary administrative theory has documented this transformation with a focus on a digitally empowered citizen and a digitally transformed institution,' he said. Srinivas said India had outlined its vision for 'Resource Rich, Publications Rich, Digitally Agile IIAS' which will seek to integrate the best practices of digital public infrastructure to transform governance models. It will be an inclusive presidency with a focus on unity which emerges from our Gandhian values, which will seek to bridge the north-south divide,' he added.
