Man sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering wife
1 2 Kanpur: Additional sessions judge, Kanpur Nagar, on Wednesday sentenced accused Antim Kumar Tiwari alias Ankit Tiwari to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 25,000 for the murder of his wife. The judge also observed that if the accused failed to pay the fine, he would have to serve an additional three months in jail. Earlier, the defence counsel had pleaded that since it was Antim's first offence and he had no criminal history; therefore, he should be punished with the minimum sentence. On the other hand, the prosecution argued that the accused had killed his wife, Rinki, by hitting her with a spade and should be awarded a maximum sentence. According to ADGC Shiv Bhagwan Goswami, Prince Jaiswal in his complaint stated that he was a dal mill owner, and Antim Kumar Tiwari, a labourer, a resident of Madarpur district Sultanpur, had been residing inside the mill campus for the past three months. On September 10, 2010 Jaiswal went to his mill and observed that Ankit and his wife were not present. He and Madan, a mechanic, opened the door of the room and found Rinki lying bleeding, and Ankit was missing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo Goswami stated that the case was decided on circumstantial evidence as there was no material witness. The judge in her order observed that it was proven that the accused Antim Kumar lived in a room within the Dal Mill compound with his wife. One day earlier, he had locked the main gate of the mill on the owner's instructions and was last seen with the deceased Rinki. The post-mortem report revealed that her death had occurred 36 hours earlier, therefore, it was established that he was with her at the time of the offence. Moreover, the accused had not contradicted the prosecution's evidence and facts, thereby proving that he had committed the offence. Man & teen son ‘forced' to trace missing family, allege police apathy
Hyderabad: What should have been the job of law enforcement has, in desperation, turned into a 'mission' for a father and his teenage son. For the last six weeks, Hyderabad-based DTP operator Shareef Saleh and his son have been virtually conducting their own investigation to trace his missing wife and two daughters — one of them a minor and specially abled. On July 12, Shareef's wife Mujeebunissa (40), along with their daughters Shareef Ayesha (18) and Shareef Zainab (16), left their Bandlaguda residence. An FIR was registered the same day, but Shareef alleges that little progress was made. "We did not get the desired help from the police. That forced me to take matters into my own hands," he said. Using his son's computer, which still had his wife's WhatsApp account open, Shareef discovered her last conversations were with her sister, a Bangladesh national settled there after marriage. "That was the first red flag," he recalls. Mujeebunissa's sister, who married a Bangladeshi, moved from Hyderabad to Bangladesh and later acquired that country's citizenship. From those records, Shareef pieced together that his wife and daughters were in Kolkata, even identifying hotels where they stayed through food delivery apps. "One delivery boy confirmed their location. But since then, the trail has gone cold. My son and I have hit a dead end," he added. The family now fears the women may have been trafficked to Bangladesh. However, the police deny his charges of inaction. Bandlaguda inspector R Devender said: "It is the police who are investigating. We found her last location on the West Bengal border, and we know her sister lives in Bangladesh. Prima facie, it appears to be a marital dispute, and she left wilfully. His allegations are false." Shareef, however, pleads for more cooperation. "I am only asking the police to coordinate with Kolkata authorities so that I can know if my wife and daughters are safe," he said. Senthil says Janardhana's claims that he masterminded Dharmasthala case is ridiculous
1 2 Bengaluru: Sasikanth Senthil, a key strategist behind Congress' victory in the 2023 elections in Karnataka, denied allegations that he is the "mastermind" behind a campaign to defame Dharmasthala, the popular Hindu pilgrimage centre in Dakshina Kannada district. Mining baron and BJP legislator Gali Janardhana Reddy had accused Senthil, now a Congress MP from Tamil Nadu, of being "director and scriptwriter" in a case that led to the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe allegations of mass murders in Dharmasthala. Senthil suggested Reddy was being vindictive. He told TOI, "When I joined as assistant commissioner of Ballari, Reddy was in the spotlight for illegal mining and CBI had asked me to provide all documents against him. I have no connection with the Dharmasthala issue. I am not even aware of what is happening there." But Reddy stood by his accusation Wednesday. "If Senthil says he is innocent, then let him come and depose before SIT on his own volition and prove me wrong," Reddy said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Unwelcoming Countries in the World, Ranked BigGlobalTravel Undo Reddy said Senthil's tenure as assistant commissioner in Ballari began only after his arrest, and his allegations had nothing to do with being jailed because of the bureaucrat. Senthil countered it saying it is for the state govt to handle the issue, not him. "The Congress govt is quite competent to deal with allegations of mass murders in Dharmasthala and does not require a TN MP to intervene. The accusations against me are baseless and ridiculous," he said. He pointed out that even during his tenure as deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, he had little to do with Dharmasthala. "There were much bigger issues at play, and I had no time for rumours involving Dharmasthala," Senthil said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
