Love Island fans might be forced to wait a little longer for their favourite summer show, as the iconic villa in Mallorca is reportedly not ready for action. While host Maya Jama is prepped and camera-ready, the sun-soaked villa that will play host to this year's crop of sizzling singles is still under construction, with sources claiming that the site is up to ten days behind schedule.
A production insider has told the Sun: "It's always a quick turnaround to sprinkle the Love Island magic on the Villa, which is a regular holiday let the rest of the year. But the schedule has gone awry this year and it's looking like production is as much as ten days behind schedule. Everyone is working around the clock."
The delay has sparked online speculation that the show's premiere may be pushed back. The summer series usually returns a week after the May Bank Holiday, which means it would launch on a Monday, June 2. The Mirror has reached out to ITV for comment.
However, fans believe the start date could now be June 9, as no official date has yet been announced and promotional activity has been unusually quiet.
Despite the setback, Maya Jama has kept the hype for the new series alive. In a teaser that was released recently, the TV host can be seen in a fictional office, wearing a sleek outfit and surrounded by clocks set to the times in various Spanish cities.
In the trailer, Maya says: "To the hottie this may concern, as per the last 11 series we're staying loyal to the entertainment and levelling up the twists. The stakeholders are aligned, the Islanders will be laying it on Factor 50, and we're on track to hit our KPI on drama. It's time to crack on and deliver serious results. Let's circle back soon. Warmest wishes."
She continues: "This year I want more drama, more bombshells, more break-ups, more make-ups. I want more twists. I want more twists than ever." While ITV is keeping details about the contestants under wraps, two names have already been bandied about - 6'5' London-based personal trainer Aaron Beckett, and 20-year-old make-up artist Lucy Quinn from Liverpool.
Beckett has already racked up a hefty following on Instagram and TikTok thanks to his impressive gym routines. A source told the Sun: "It's a fact of life that girls go crazy for a tall lad and Aaron is a man mountain. He's got great chat too."
It's not yet known whether he'll arrive with the original line-up or drop in later as a bombshell. Meanwhile, Lucy has been tasked with stealing men away from their sweethearts in Casa Amor. She is said to be a glamorous girl with a fiery personality.
An insider told MailOnline: "Lucy is single and ready to mingle. She can't wait to enter the Love Island villa and is counting down the days until it becomes a reality."
Love Island season 12 will premiere this summer on ITV and ITVX.
