Peruvian court shields Boluarte from criminal investigations until end of term
Boluarte was being investigated for her role in the deaths of dozens of protesters after she came to power in late 2022 and for alleged illicit enrichment during her administration, which is set to end July 28, 2026.
The deeply unpopular president also faced a probe for abandoning her post after she underwent a rhinoplasty without informing Congress that she would temporarily hand over her duties as head of state.
Boluarte has denied all accusations.
In its decision, the constitutional court ruled that it would side with a complaint filed by the executive branch against the prosecutor's office and the judiciary, ordering the investigations be halted until Boluarte's term is up.
Peru has undergone a period of significant political turmoil, with six presidents in the past seven years.

Brazil's Bolsonaro drafted Argentina asylum request, police allege
BRASILIA, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Brazilian ex-President Jair Bolsonaro drafted a letter to Argentine President Javier Milei to request political asylum, federal police said on Wednesday. The letter had been saved on Bolsonaro's cell phone in February of last year, two days after his passport was seized, according to police. It was unclear whether it had been sent to Milei. Milei's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The document was part of the final police report that formally accused Bolsonaro and his son, Eduardo, of working to interfere in an ongoing legal process in which the former Brazilian president is on trial for plotting a coup. The trial is set to start in September. Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since earlier this month after Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes found Bolsonaro failed to comply with restraining orders, including regarding the use of social media. The younger Bolsonaro, a Brazilian congressman, moved to the United States this year and has been advocating in Washington on behalf of his father. Legal representatives for the two Bolsonaros did not immediately respond to requests for comment. In a Supreme Court decision based off the police report, Moraes gave Bolsonaro's layers 48 hours to clarify his repeated failure to comply with the restraining orders and his flight risk.

49ers wideout Demarcus Robinson suspended for three games
August 21 - San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson has been suspended for the first three games of the upcoming NFL season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The suspension is not yet official as Robinson and the 49ers work through the appeal process, according to NFL Network. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the news on a San Francisco Bay Area radio show on Wednesday. "You can always appeal it, so we'll hope for the best on that, but (three weeks) is what we're planning for," Shanahan said. In July 2025, the 30-year-old Robinson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge he received in November 2024 as a member of the Los Angeles Rams. Robinson was sentenced to three years' probation and ordered to pay a $390 fine following the incident. The standard suspension in the NFL for a first-time DUI offense is three games. Robinson's absence would be another blow to a 49ers' receiver room that could already be without Brandon Aiyuk (recovering from a torn ACL) and Jauan Jennings (calf injury) to start the year. Robinson had 31 receptions for 505 yards and seven touchdowns for the Rams last season. He has also played for the Kansas City Chiefs (2017-21) and Baltimore Ravens (2022) in his eight-year career. --Field Level Media

Nip/Tuck star Dylan Walsh and his family involved in mysterious car crash that sends two to hospital
The actor Dylan Walsh was involved in a major car crash over the weekend that left passengers injured. The 61-year-old Nip/Tuck star was in an SUV with four other people on Sunday, August 17, when it collided with a utility pole in New Jersey, according to TMZ. The crash was serious enough that two people in the vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment after they complained of pain at the scene. It's unclear who was driving the vehicle — a 2022 Ford Explorer — and it's also unknown who required medical attention after the crash, which caused significant damage to the SUV. The Daily Mail has contacted Walsh's representative to request comment but hasn't yet received a response.
