Anti-gang unit arrests 18-year-old with guns on Youth Day in Hout Bay
Anti-gang unit police arrested an 18-year-old youth in possession of two handguns and ammunition on Youth Day in Hout Bay, Cape Town.
The unit was deployed to the area to curb gang violence.
'The members conducted an intelligence-driven operation during which they arrested an 18-year-old male who was found in possession of a .38 special revolver without a serial number and a 9mm pistol with 55 rounds of ammunition. He faces charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition,' said police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg.
Sixty-three rounds of ammunition and three magazines were seized in the area from a 23-year-old woman who was also arrested.
In a separate bust, four men wanted on murder charges for an incident in Hout Bay were arrested.
Once charged, the suspects will appear in the Simon's Town magistrate's court.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man regarded as the 'most wanted' suspect in the Western Cape is expected to appear in the Athlone magistrate's court on Tuesday. The suspect, arrested on Friday in the Free State, was wanted on charges including murder, extortion and arson in the Nyanga area, related to the taxi industry.

Siphokazi Magangana, a former district court prosecutor, and Yandisa Yolanda Jam Jam appeared in the Roodepoort magistrate's court on Tuesday to face charges of corruption and money laundering. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said the charges related to allegations of soliciting money from unsuspecting and vulnerable members of the public desperate for employment. Magangana, previously stationed in the Johannesburg magistrate's court, allegedly duped three people in August 2022 into paying R10,000 each into the bank account belonging to Jam Jam in exchange for securing permanent employment as prosecutors without following due process of being subjected to interviews. 'When this promise was not fulfilled, the three complained in May 2023 to the office for ethics and accountability of the NPA for investigation.' In December 2023, that office recommended the case be referred to the labour relations unit of the NPA for disciplinary action and Magangana be charged with corruption and fraud. Both accused remain in custody and will return to court on Friday for a possible bail hearing. 'The public is warned not to fall prey to false promises as legitimate NPA hiring processes require no payment of any kind,' Mjonondwane said. As a public institution, the NPA followed official and transparent recruitment procedures to fill vacancies which are publicised on the NPA and the department of public service and administration websites, and the NPA social media platforms, Mjonondwane said. 'Fast Guns' gangsters get life for shots that killed child on Cape Flats
Two members of the Fast Guns gang have been sentenced to life imprisonment in Cape Town for a brazen shooting that claimed the life of a five-year-old child and the attempted murder of nine other people in Lavender Hill, Cape Town. Carlo Hofmeester and Chadwin Isaacs were convicted by the high court in Cape Town for contravening the Prevention of Organised Crime Act and the murder of five-year-old Valentino Grootetjie on December 21 2019. They were also handed 10 years imprisonment for each of the nine counts of attempted murder, five years for illegal possession of firearms and three years for illegal possession of ammunition. The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently. ' State advocate Leon Snyman proved the accused were members of the Fast Guns gang who were engaged in drug turf wars with the Mongrels gang in Lavender Hill and surrounding areas,' said National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila on Tuesday. On the day of the shooting, Mongrels gang members gathered at 37 Drury Court in Lavender Hill to smoke and socialise in what was regarded as Mongrels gang territory. Two of the other victims were at 36 Drury Court.

Gunman who disrupted ActionSA branch launch appears in court
Party members scurried for cover as one of the gunmen, who arrived in a Toyota Quantum, fired shots inside the venue. Some party members managed to disarm the gunman. Senior prosecutor Seema Reddy had not objected to the application as there was no identity parade because Hadebe was arrested on the scene. Court proceedings got off to a bad start as Hadebe infuriated Myeni because of his inaudible responses to the court. Hadebe later requested the court to grant him bail, saying he transported children to school and had strong emotional ties with his children. Reddy said the state was opposed to bail and called for the matter to be postponed to Tuesday. She said information had also surfaced that Hadebe had previous convictions dating back to 2015.
