About 40 homes in DLF-2 under government lens for illegal construction in Gurugram

GURUGRAM
: The district town planner (enforcement) has initiated an investigation into illegal modifications in 40 houses in
DLF 2
.
However, sources in the enforcement wing said the department suspects the number of violators may exceed the current list of 40 homes. "What has come to light is just the tip of the iceberg. More properties may be surveyed as the probe expands," an official requesting anonymity said.
The list of irregularities includes additional floors constructed without approval, encroachments in front and rear setbacks, misuse of stilt parking and unauthorised alterations in balconies — all of which violate approved building plans and occupancy norms.
The crackdown on rampant unauthorised construction in one of Gurgaon's most posh colonies follows a formal complaint by the maintenance agency of
DLF Estate Developers
Limited, which submitted photographic evidence and a detailed list of violations to the town planning department.
The violations span across multiple blocks — K, J, L, M, N, Q,
Gulmohar
,
Kesia
and Madhya Marg — where homeowners are allegedly flouting building norms with impunity.
Acting on the complaint, the town planner's office directed a junior engineer to survey the listed properties and submit a report within a week. "Once the report is submitted, show-cause notices will be issued, followed by restoration orders. If violations are not addressed, sealing of premises and cancellation of occupation certificates will be initiated," town planner Amit Madholia said.
This action comes in the backdrop of a wider crackdown ordered by the Punjab and Haryana high court against illegal construction in DLF 1 to 5. So far, over 5,000 houses were served notices in that case. However, Supreme Court has currently stayed coercive action, with the next hearing scheduled for July. In the meantime, the town planner is continuing its departmental proceedings based on fresh complaints.
Urban planning experts say the situation in DLF reflects a larger trend across upscale colonies in Gurgaon, where lack of monitoring and weak enforcement have led to systematic violations of the Gurgaon Master Plan.
"The system of self-regulation by residents has completely failed. It's time the authorities made examples out of serial violators," said an architect familiar with DLF developments.

Congress MLA Vinay Kulkarni surrenders, shifted to central prison

Bengaluru: Congress' Dharwad Rural MLA Vinay Kulkarni surrendered before a special court for elected representatives in the city Friday following the cancellation of his bail by the Supreme Court. He has been remanded in judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison. Kulkarni is among 21 people arrested and chargesheeted by CBI in connection with the 2016 murder of Yogeeshgouda Goudar, a BJP member of the zilla panchayat from Hebballi constituency in Dharwad district. Kulkarni is arraigned as accused number 15. The Supreme Court granted conditional bail to Kulkarni in Aug 2021, which CBI challenged, saying he was threatening the witnesses and tampering with evidence. Passing the cancellation orders on June 6, a two-judge bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma observed, "It would suffice to state that there is sufficient material on record to suggest that attempts have been made by Kulkarni to either contact witnesses or alternatively, influence such witnesses. Therefore, keeping in mind the totality of circumstances, this court is of the considered opinion that the bail granted to the respondent ought to be cancelled. Consequently, the bail granted to accused Kulkarni is hereby cancelled." Senior special public prosecutor Gangadhar Shetty said the special court will hear the case for three consecutive days from next Monday. Why no FIR against Ponmudy? Madras high court orders notice to DGP, commissioner

Madras high court CHENNAI: Madras high court on Friday ordered notices to the Tamil Nadu DGP and the Chennai commissioner of police on a suo motu plea initiated against former DMK minister K Ponmudy for his obscene speech against Shaivism, Vaishnavism and women. On April 23, Justice N Anand Venkatesh decided to initiate the suo motu plea since the Tamil Nadu police failed to register an FIR against the former minister. After the approval of the chief justice, the petition was numbered and listed before Justice P Velmurugan, who handles the portfolio of cases against MPs and MLAs. When the plea came for hearing on Friday, Justice Velmurugan directed the registry to forward a copy of the order passed by Justice Anand Venkatesh to the DGP and the commissioner and adjourned the hearing to June 25. According to Justice Anand Venkatesh, the comments made by Ponmudy, on the face of it, were completely derogatory towards women and deliberately spewed venom and hatred on the two main sects of Hinduism. The judge directed the initiation of suo motu proceedings as the Tamil Nadu police failed to register an FIR against the minister, as suggested by high court. As per the Supreme Court order, police are mandated to register a case against such hate speech even in the absence of a formal complaint, high court pointed out. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Преносими лазерни заваръчни пистолети, 50% отстъпка LYH Купете сега Undo 'Tamil Nadu police must obey the orders of Supreme Court to check hate speeches in letter and spirit. They added that the Madurai bench of the court already dismissed two petitions seeking action against the minister. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
